Yeah. They probably did that as a nod to the books, since they stopped adapting the book stories after season 4 for budget reasons. It would've been too expensive and impractical to build new sets for the minimum gauge and mountain engines. But at least Rex, Mike, and Bert did finally get their screen time in Season 20, with episodes directly adapted from the original books. What I find odd is that Mr Fergus Duncan is still referred to as The Small Controller in the US narration, since the terms Fat Controller and Thin Controller aren't used.
I might actually watch them if so, if their voice actors and animators aren't too awful. By season 8, the narrators voices were so slow and pedantic, and delivered with a tone like that of a fake smile with a gun at the back of ones head, that I'd rather a computer read the story to me. That and instead of advancing a story with lessons between, they forgot the story, abandoned half the semi-new characters, and stopped developing them at all.
"Faulty Whistles" (the S6 Finale) was based on this, with Duncan being Mike and Peter Sam being Duck. The entire episode is made with Narrow Gauge characters. Also this is now an S20 episode, albeit more faithful to the story.
This story honestly reminds me of Domeless Engines from Duck and the Diesel Engine, with how similar with what happens to Gordon and Mike. Gordon boasts “Domeless Engines aren’t respectable” and Mike making fun of Duck by saying “engines without whistles aren't proper engines at all". Only for karma to catch up to them and be mocked for what they’ve said.
Geri Dupre not realy. James is an 2-6-0. Mike is a 2-8-2. James has a square firebox, Mike has a streamlined one. James' running plate is flat, Mike's one is with two levels.
+Geri Dupre I remember hearing somewhere that the Arlesdale railway engines were painted (in-universe) to resemble Gordon, James, and Henry. I believe the real basis railway is responsible for their illustrations in the real world.
Man these neat stories make me want to work as a proud railroader SOOOOOOOOO EAGERLY! It's really interesting indeed 💯💯💯
Faulty whistles from season six is basically a Duncan version of mikes whistle

That's exactly what it is
But then it was de jure adapted in the 20th series
Andrew Brenner is such a genius to look at the Reverend Wilbert Awdrys books that he wrote
yes
Red Ice it wasn’t necessarily a fart joke just cuz he blew a raspberry 😐
I went past Eskedale railway on 2nd August last year and saw Actor David Jason too as it's in mountains lol
Clever idea for the passengers to whistle when they passed boards.
This is going to be adapted in Season 20. YAY!!!

@Daniel Joseph Except he would have said that they crane shunted Thomas to an unlikely location.

Why would they take so long?

My favourite RWS story! Mike is my first name (literally :P)
yeah :P
I knew a TV version would happen
I love this story, i wonder if this ever happned to River Mite.
Mike:if engines can’t whistle properly they shouldn’t try
Rex: then why do you?
Me: YOU JUST GOT ROASTED
"There are boards saying "whistle." We mustn't pass those without whistling, that's orders!"
They should've kept that line in the TV episode...
This story was awesome
* note * this will be in season 20
That part when ducks whistle broke because his crew made supper on it made me laugh so unexpectibly hard.....
This story was adapted as an episode from series 20. Thomas who was absent from the story, appears in the animated version.
Mike reminds me of Duncan.
Yes exactly. Also how both are kinda cocky and rude.
True dat

Did you forget to switch accounts?
@@uru47d73bxue I actually forgot the fact that it was me who posted this and replied to my own comment a long time ago XD
@TobyandMavisTogether, "Crosspatch" is the first story of Very Old Engines.
Cool
Hey look it’s an episode now!
This story honestly reminds me of Domeless Engines from Duck and the Diesel Engine, with how similar with what happens to Gordon and Mike. Gordon boasts “Domeless Engines aren’t respectable” and Mike making fun of Duck by saying “engines without whistles aren't proper engines at all". wait
ITS ADAPTED!!!!!!!
Why would the mountain trains can't be real too? Like Culdee, you know?!
Faulty whistles was apparently based off of this story
00:03:47 - My thoughts are dismayed too.
Mike looks like a smaller version of James.
Geri Dupre not realy. James is an 2-6-0. Mike is a 2-8-2. James has a square firebox, Mike has a streamlined one. James' running plate is flat, Mike's one is with two levels.
The first time I saw Mike in 1997, I thought the same thing too.
+Geri Dupre I remember hearing somewhere that the Arlesdale railway engines were painted (in-universe) to resemble Gordon, James, and Henry. I believe the real basis railway is responsible for their illustrations in the real world.
no
no!!!
Mike gets pissed about missing his whistle 😢
I think the last three stories of season 6 are all loosely based off of this book.
Mike’s whistle when what is wrong with his boiler
An engine is not an engine without a whistle.
Mavis: HEY! What are me and the other diesels then? chopped liver? (Diesel Engines use horns as substitutes for whistles)
@@neo-warkid4edwards222 Same thing
the story events happen in 1967
It isn't wrong, but we just don't do it!
00:03:31 Whoosh!
Take out Thomas from the story and it would have been flawless but ofc we can’t do that bc this is the 21st century
Who eats eggs for supper lol
