He gets closer during the course of the game. Considering this is the brother to the final "I dedicate this game to you--" line, it makes sense that it's similarly close.

Yeah the unused dialogue is all the parts where Bennett felt compassionate, human and supportive. The finished game is so harsh because he pulled all humanity out, leaving only the cold, hard, spiky and absolutely annoying shell
It’s not really harsh or annoying. In this he actually notably taunts you more, where as in the full game he understands that you’re gonna be going through a rough time, but he consistently shows dialogue that he believes in you.

That line was cut out, I'm sure he did finish it. He even finished it pretty quickly in a video on RUclips (on the Kotaku channel, while talking with Tim Rogers).

first time i played this game i got the bad ending, i was really confused cause i made sure to not watch any videos so as not to spoil it, i thought bennet was just doing his usual aggravating talking, and there was somehow a way to escape, i must have been there for about 20 minutes before i realised i was screwed
You CAN actually get out of the bad ending without starting over, but it’s really difficult. Difficult but not impossible or past mending as he says.

On my first playthrough, after sacrificing 2 hours of my day to this cursed game, I got the bad ending. Good thing I don't live in my parents house anymore because they would not recognize me oof

I love how the narrator is self-aware
I think the bad ending is trying to say that you are stuck at a certain point in your life, and you use the radio tower to call for help but nothing, and you are stuck there forever.
I understand why he took the tips out, but I would have loved more dialogue in general. I feel like a really reactive narrator would have livened the game up even more than he already does.

Some small thing that you probably noticed: as the dialogue carries on throughout the game at the different sections, Bennett gets progressively closer to his mic. You can probably hear this is in a compilation of the dialogue continuously playing.
Bennett is a weird dude.
I think its meant to represent the player (Or Diogenes, which is the guy with the axes name) and the narrator bonding throughout the game? Strange way to do it but it works

I actually discovered the 500 clicks thing by accident. For some reason I just find it oddly satisfying to click my mouse and stuff and sometimes I'd just do that while playing, and sometimes click a lot after I lost a lot of progress. At one point, after I'd gotten past Devil's Chimney for the millionth time because I kept failing the slide thing, I nearly fell from my chair because I was so startled by his voice, since I'd lost progress so many times that he just decided to leave me alone and stop talking, and it was unexpected.
