Tbqh I think the change in his behavior is almost entirely due to the IMMENSE hostility that has been directed at him for years. Some people, like say Shapiro or Jones or whoever, can handle that without changing much but I don't think JP is that guy. I think he's a kind, well meaning person that was made extremely bitter by the abuse he received. I think he's far less level headed now and he can be needlessly argumentative but grifter? Nah. Woody is full of it.
The problem I have with JP is that he completely misrepresents what historic thinkers/philosophers believe.
I met a downy at a rave & I was on acid. She had a good body but I didn’t know she had the syndrome I thought it was the drugs making her face look funny until the lights came on. I felt weird about it and ran away. I still feel bad about it all these years later.

I’m proud to know what thalidomide is for, pregnancy sickness. The enantiomer of it ( which has different stereochemistry at a chiral center) caused babies to be born with horrible defects. So the exact same molecule, composition of atoms and order linked, can have extremely negative effects if there’s is even the smallest change in the stereochemistry( 3d geometry) at the asymmetric point in the molecule.
