For every foot of height you would gain 0.43 psi water pressure. Also people should keep in mind that in the U.S.A. the Black barrels usually have contained hazardous materials in them, so make sure you know what was in them and/or wash and rinse them out well. I wouldn't suggest using them for potable water at all. Third, if you will tap your barrels at the bottom and link all of them in a series, they will all fill level at the same time (they will self-level). Enjoyed the video, neat work.

Some suggestions. DITCH the inverter. Very inefficient. go with a 12v to USB adapter and get USB charge cables for your phones. far far less "loss"
also add that extra barrel and then add a SECOND LEVEL of barrel's on top of it!! your going to be shocked how much even a small roof will capture in rain water.
the little panels are doing nothing. you need to serial enough of them to get to 14v.
Great job so far man can't wait to see more !!

Great job on the RWH system! FYI - soap is a surfactant, and is good for managing bugs in your lawn. Don't waist that water on a rinse out, use it on plants to help manage pests.

Fabian, I really like your system. I'd like to install a 12V pump on my system as well, but haven't quite thought it all the way through yet - I'll be anxious to see what you decide to do, as it sounds as though you know more about batteries, electricity, and pumps than I do. Really nice job & I hope I was able to help out with your tank valve question.

TIP:when you buy your rain barrels go straight to the coin car wash and spray them out with the pressure washer. SOOOOO much easier and cleaner:)
    Nice job!

I like that you showed clearly what "anyman" can do given the ability to think outside the box. How many people trash those lights when the bulb goes?
Wonder how many it would take to equal one large solar panel?
Would it be a statement to cover my roof with solar light caps? ;-)

that looks nice. I would love to see it finished with the pump working

lots of great feedback from the posts and nice brain stimulation to get creative about water conservation and solar usage for my own home. one thing i dont see enough of (now that there are hot spots of radiation from japan throughout U.S. though, is filteration. how can we "clean" rainwater? sand?charcoal layers?

Great vid. I'd like to see how to hook up rain water to inside piping. Thanks for posting.

Why are the barrels connected at the top? You don't need that to fill them up. The water will level out equally through the bottom pipes alone.
    Nice system.

The plan is to add a 12 volt RV ondemand water pump that will give me pressure something along the lines of 4.9gpm @ 45psi

I tried those solar panels a couple of times. They didn't seam to charge very well and both stopped working after a short period of time.

Sure, collect the rain water and the next thing you know Florida is collapsing from an under supplied aquifer. Thanks a lot.

with the inverter your stepping the power up then stepping it back down with an adapter/phone charger . . very in-efficient ..ie wasting power , you'd be better off . using a car charger , or running 3.7 volt straight to your phone batteries ,,,

The reason there's pipes on the top and bottom is for better flow... When it rains hard one pipe cannot handle the volume.btw this system has since been removed and replaced chk out my other vids to see the new system :) Thanx

In Navada we can not do this. in my state they made a stinking law saying we can not collect rain water.

Why o why do all those americans forgot what they have learned on school??Never heard of balancing barrels??You just connect them all at the lowest part and all those barrels act as one barrel!!So no filling the first barrel and after that filling the next barrel and after that the next barrel, etcetera. They all fill at the same time! And you only have one outlet..For al barrels!!

  • @hankydeee
    @hankydeee 12 лет назад

Hey clown, where would they get the barrel's first of all, when money for food is sparse enough, and how would they keep the water from growing bacteria? And it's not a rain Forrest they live in. Think first!
