Presentation of the SFINX, possible Volvo evolution of the construction equipment (here an excavator) in the years to come. Find out more: www.volvoce.com
Thanks for your comment! The adoption of four tracks is to make them more wheel-like. When driving on rough ground traditional tracks tiptoe and the contact area is quite small. Four tracks have a much higher contact area with the ground, aided by independent suspension to each track, suspended via a swing arm from a central pivot. Each track has a separate wheel motor, which can brake, accelerate and even turn.
Thanks for your comment! Please understand that this concept is based, in some part, on technologies that have yet to be developed. It also relies on future developments that may or may not have been tested but are certainly not yet commercially available. But we are working on it :-)
I like some of the concepts here, like the independant tracks, but maybe a little simpler version first. I really like the active counterweight. Give a lighter, easier to move machine a big digging advantage. Just make sure to not make it so complex it is not reliable. I think the concept shows some promise though.
Only thing i dont like is that it has one little "Camera", i hope that by the time this badboy ever gets built they have some serious Heads Up Display technology and even helmet mounted instruments. Thats what i'd like to see.
the counterwieght feature is pretty nice..but volvo should really focus on making a diesel turbo charger that lasts more than 60k miles before they worry about this!
the 4 tracks is a great idea, but it would only really last in light duty work, working in rock like in highway construction it wouldnt last. and all the other small things would just be more unnecessary and would never get fixed by a mechanic, so theyre rather pointless. oh yeah, what construction worker wears tights??
Well its an interesting concept, especially the remote detachable cab. My biggest concern was once the the operative got shut in that strong (plexiglas?) or re-enforced glass module. Once that cover has closed, unless he got powerful fans hes gonna bake! In the event of an accident, hes not going anywhere, it could be his tomb, if he couldn't get out! The sequences were a little slow, as a standard driver could have dug a trench or filled on in, by the time this guy was ready! He didn't even get the chance to dig one, after he only picked up one stone and missed scooping up the second one, dropped the stone, picked up hazardous waste, and dropped that (remotely) in the same area. He certainly wasn't efficient using a machine which will cost millions (initially). But its definitely one for the future, the far distant future.............
Incredible ideas, nice machine, the tracking, the remote features,85 there is to much glass for a heavy machine, I agree with pup085, but any other feature I think are great nice job. When can I see this done?
Interesting. I don't know about the latice boom. lattice has compresion strength but not much tortional strength. but maybe it could be worked out. ran my first Volvo excavator last week. I liked it but I dont think I would buy one. I dont have a dealer close. I am afraid parts would be high. I had a Komatsu' and that was the problem with that. Holy crap the parts were through the roof. I run a Cat with 26,000 hrs on it. I wonder if my buddy will get that many hrs out of his Volvo?
well the future and technology is always changing and improving...ohh 30 odd yrs ago there wernt mobile phones but look at them now ehh,,so y cant they make vehicles of the future..
Hmm...From 00:28 to 01:53, the music sounds like the beginning of a popular NIN (Nine Inch Nails) song. On a more serious note, the front "see-through" corner pillars look like they were borrowed from Volvo's concept car from about two years ago.
I can't imagine any of this ever becoming standard. This is obviously dreamed up by someone with no idea about day to day use of such machines. The track system would be a hazard due to its ground pressure characteristics, the bit where they swivel to cope with the stepped terrain in particular could make the machine topple is a soft spot was encountered. The detachable cab has no benefits and would be unreliable, the bucket cam is a waste of technology. The dreams of a child...
Cute remote control.. At least, until the remote system gets hacked by /b/ros on 4chan and the machine gets trolled on the jobsite.. YOU get blamed and fired.
This sucks, the designers obviously havent even used one of these before.....you cant design the best excavator if you dont know how to run one or what makes them good. PATHETIC.
the 4 tracks is a great idea, but it would only really last in light duty work, working in rock like in highway construction it wouldnt last. and all the other small things would just be more unnecessary and would never get fixed by a mechanic, so theyre rather pointless
Does it work properly on any planet or it's only made for operating on Mars?

Do we really have to walk like this in the future?!?
Good concept, archaic visualisation.
Couldn't that have doubled the budget and hired (say) two college students for the modelling and animation work?

lets hope in years to come that driving a volvo wont mean showing up to work in a blue spandex body suit
These ideas might have their place is smaller specialized machines but the KISS principle still holds, especially when playing in the dirt.
I doubt those fancy lazers work when covered in mud
Only thing i dont like is that it has one little "Camera", i hope that by the time this badboy ever gets built they have some serious Heads Up Display technology and even helmet mounted instruments. Thats what i'd like to see.
this is supposed to come out when?? idk but im sure that lil feature to cover more ground would come in handy at the beach we would use it at

Amazing ideas !

too many moving and extra parts not workable in qurry to much extra maintance costs
wow its still diesel? Weres the solar panels?
where can I buy this?
Excellent vedio very nice job it's my best job thanks friends everybody
That's How great ideas are born! excellent work.
geniales konzept ! wird es auch gebaut ? prototype ? was würde solch ein bagger kosten?

You can't say that it is uncool, When this comes out official you want to own one of those, Just sayin :-)
thats actually pretty cool!
Wonder if the glass is going to be that Thin

and it looks as expensive as all hell
well its 2015 Volvo What Happened??! -_-
When will this be available to the public?
Very nice video
Luckily Volvo operators are free to choose his / her own outfits, both now and in the future..
it would do away with a tilt bucket just using the tracks to get the required angle.
Unreal Engine Stones...
well the future and technology is always changing and improving...ohh 30 odd yrs ago there wernt mobile phones but look at them now ehh,,so y cant they make vehicles of the future..
10 years later
good ideas but highly doubt it'd work that well or at all in the real world. Way to many things that could go wrong.
i'm no expert but the concept looks pretty cool
About programming the work that has to be done with CAD and guiding the machine with GPS?

Interesting, very interesting.
This is the future
@GlobalVolvoCE you can do it all! you have the technology, trust me. All is so easy to happen :-)
If you want any idea, just ask me ;)
Volvo is winning! I want one!
2:41
I DARE you to find a manifold like that
Not ideal from what I can see.. what if you are in a situation where you can't get out of the cab because the boom can't be swung to the side?
Estaremos viendo esta maquina en futuro próximo porque esta sensacional
Damn I could work from home now haha
Whats the music in 1:05 ???
Was vid this made by 10 yo kid using a paint?? FFS try harder volvo.
Nice
I haven't seen this video in ages
Que doido, muito bom.
*Hello friends :) Cool video, I like it 👉👉👉👉*
2018???
???Only me???
Unless there is metal I'm not aware of the boom looks like it will have to be welded alot...
How do you create animation?
Why is this shown to me only now?
Amazing
Why big company like volvo not hire or pay better animator 😂
one word - wow.
Radical!
Dont build this please
That was cool
Don't know if I'd try that in my Kubota U35!!
Amazing excavotar
is it going to be ready in a near future? :)
velho, a gente ja tem tecnologia suficiente pra fazer isso hoje em dia, me diz onde ta a dificuldade?
Awesome
Quadtra tracks are the future.

Wooow, amazing animations. ;)
love the tracks now lets see someone build it lols.
very nice a+++++++++++++++++++
Holy fuck they could not made the guy any creepier
Graet volvo
it's good than volvo cars :D
Better than Cool 3D World.
Technology of tomorrow... CGI of 1995

HUMM? Mining on mars with a nuclear power excavator ..Fantastic ..

Like si eres operador hispano
I would pay $2 for this game
nin!!!!!
Umm where does the fucking engine go?
niiice!
cool
Looks stupid it not 2098 yet
Cute remote control.. At least, until the remote system gets hacked by /b/ros on 4chan and the machine gets trolled on the jobsite.. YOU get blamed and fired.
That guy needs to get his shoulders checked
Wow
да лодна
The future are here..

Rise of the Reds brought me here.
It is much too high to be transported on a truck!
astig

this will just cost to much :S
there is some things i like but the are some i don´t. somethings is missing :S
