Today on this very special episode of The Ranveer Show, we welcome Mandar Apte. He is the executive director of Cities4Peace (a peacebuilding initiative of the Art of Living Foundation), Producer & Director of the 'From India With Love' documentary film, and a former manager of Shell’s Gamechanger Social Innovation Program. He transitioned his life to focus on social impact, particularly in the USA, where he works with marginalized communities, including former gang members, police officers, and victims/ survivors of violence. He uses the wisdom of Indian culture, particularly meditative practices like Sudarshan Kriya pranayama to promote healing and peace.
In this episode, we talked about Mandar sir’s personal experiences in South Central Los Angeles and the challenges faced by these communities, highlighting the prevalence of gun violence, drug use, and intergenerational trauma. He shares stories of his meditation-based workshops with the people of LA and how they have transformed the lives of many people. He emphasizes the importance of community building and empathy, drawing on his experiences and the inspiring stories of those that he has helped.
This was an amazing conversation about the violence in the USA and the way India’s wisdom can be part of the solution. I hope you will enjoy this episode and let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Last year, the owner of an insurance agency in Orem, Utah, lost his mind, found his gun, killed his wife, their 3 children, and then himself. Yet, the 2nd amendment has the phrase, "the right of the people to keep & bear arms shall not be infringed". Meanwhile, we're taught that the Constitution is "a living document". Because of this gun policy, millions have been shot, wounded, or killed. The average Joe gun owner says that he is "responsible", but the guns industry is a tyranny masquerading as a freedom. Meanwhile, the cities have more and more blight as the fat cats cash in their stock options that they awarded themselves. America ... not right, not well, not correcting.

Guns make finality (lethal force) so easy someone in the heat of the moment escalates to lethality. Policing in the US is done in a manner that escalates situations as opposed to de-escalating them. Drug abuse and mental illness abound, exasperated by the worsening income inequality and lack of usable education. Fat cats still get paid. The for-profit prison system remains full, business is good. To think this is not all part of the plan is silly. The people’s right to bear arms is not the cause here, it is simply the easiest avenue for the disease to manifest. With or without guns, the problems will continue. Love and peace to you!

What is even more scary. Being born in india poor, struggle everyday for food and water and housing while you see hardworking general merit students finish education and move overseas for jobs and to put food on table. We can talk about higher purpose and things like that but what matters for this short human life is to able to put food on table and live and great life which for millions of india is a distant dream.

At a different campus, a student was shot dead in their car that was parked right outside the campus gates. When i went to work for a non profit, there was a mass shooting in a cafe that youngsters frequent in the neighboring town. When I worked in a one of the highest educated city, there were gun shootings so often that i got used to seeing secure buildings boarded up. Thanks but no thanks. Too much for my comfort.

One of the least nuanced and cherry picked interpretation of a highly complex issue in the American society. Not disagreeing with superficial and generalized conclusion but there is heck of a lot more to it. It takes lot of time for people understand the difference between concept of freedom in the USA and in other societies. I personally do not subscribe to this extreme obsession with freedom but it has to be acknowledged to have substantive conversation and it is important to connect gun laws. USA is a very flat society compared to any other... not ideal but in relative terms. If you want to get a sense.. study the mask mandate in Covid time, leave out the conspiracy theorists and social media influencers who feed their families with monetized attention on their content, you will get some of the forces at play and, mindset of people.

    1. New channel will tell you whatever is said in this video day in and day out. So there is that. Plus, these incidents don’t happen every freakin day like this might lead you to believe.
    2. The guy speaks of gun violence being a psychological issue as if Americans are the only ones playing “violent” video games in the world. That’s a flawed argument to say the least. It’s way more complicated than that. Please go read US’s history in the context of the 2nd Amendment which constitutionally allows Americans to own guns. You will better understand the complexity around gun laws and notoriety of Republican lawmakers who accept donation from NRA to stay in power. They oppose any sort of gun control because NRA doesn’t want to lose it sales
    3. These two are talking about mental health as if it’s unique to America. This leads uneducated and nationalist Indians to believe “India is the best” not realizing how mental health problems in India translates to various issues in the Indian society.

This is just my observation, you will find many RUclips videos on American RUclips channels where they try out different guns and their power, etc. Now, the RUclipsr might not have any bad intentions to promote the use of guns. But you cannot guess what the viewers would learn from that video. Maybe they would be encouraged to use guns because it looks cool. Especially the teenagers who are very easy to influence and they can get influenced by literally anything. This is just my observation and a different perspective on gun usage in the US.

Before anybody goes outraging, ask yourselves this question, " Has the Indian Supreme Court ever stood with an individual whose fundamental rights have been trampled upon by the state?" The answer is no....which is why we need people to have guns.
