Yes-that’s John Deacon’s own riff- he was incredibly brilliant. He invented the ‘Deacy Amp’ giving Queen an unusual sound. He built it out of discarded pieces he found in the bins. No one has been able to replicate it!

If you want to see more of John in action, I recommend "Liar" (either official video with studio audio or live at the Rainbow, either is great). It's an early song that Freddie wrote but it has a KILLER bass solo. And while John was certainly the quiet one, he wrote many of Queen's hits, usually with very memorable bass lines like "Another One Bites the Dust." And I love your reaction to this one, it's when you start seeing Queen beyond Freddie as more of a unit of four talented individuals that you really start to appreciate them! You begin to notice what each one brings to the table. Can't wait to see more reactions as you continue on your Queen journey!

Freddie and John were both introverts, offstage. Only one of them turned into an (extreme) extrovert once they hit the stage. Notice how John dropped out of the band as soon as Freddie left Earth (Brian and Roger "carrying the torch" later on). Special bond, just like the one Freddie had with the entire crowd while warming up his vocal cords in that concert.

All that amazing sound with no synthesizers. Just their guitars. And the Freddie Mercury voice…. No one had ever heard anything like it.
They were wonderful live. But, the best way to truly hear their sound, the incredible harmonies…. you really need to listen to the studio versions. Love Of My Life, Somebody To Love, etc.,…. just not the same live.

I love seeing what each one was doing, we miss so much of the action when they cut back and forth from one to another. I think John was much more active than we know, and we miss out on so many of Freddie's antics. In so many songs Freddie was in almost constant motion, running, strutting (as he called it), bouncing, even pole dancing, and he had a number of floor moves. Judy

The sad version is that it was a co-production between David Bowie and Queen - not planned - they met in their studio in Montreux, - went for dinner, and decided to try to do something . John had the baasriff - and then they worked their way through it. They had differences and never finished it together - and never performed it together. David Bowie performed it with Annie Lennox at the memorial concert after Freddies death - and it is credited to him as well. John made the riff - and forgot it at the meal - but Roger remembered - thank God!! You should see the Tribute concert - - with "everybody " took part.

Freddie was so skilled at the "call and response" interaction with the crowd. He sang - they responded - he sang again - they responded again. Call and response is used in music, religious services, and the military, just for starters. But Freddie is by far the most fun to watch "talking" with his fans in the audience.

In fact, Freddie's audience control was so thorough that when they were arranging to play in Rio De Janeiro the government almost rejected permission for fear Freddie could easily raise the audience up to rebel against the regime. They had to have body guards while appearing in Rio.

Already clicked the “Like” button!! Under Pressure is my email ringtone - you know the “pressures of society pushing down on me”. Yes that is our quiet John Deacon aka Deacy slappin’ the bass. Queen & David Bowie wrote this song & John came up with the famous bass line during a drunken session in the studio. On a lunch break John forgot the riff but thankfully Roger remembered it. 😬 John is also known as “Dancing Deacy” cuz he busts a move during Queen’s live performances! Pssssssst - The bass riff was stolen by Vanilla Ice for Ice Ice Baby. But he got sued by Queen & Bowie ... he lost!! “No time for losers”. It’s blasphemy to mention V.I. in the same sentence as Queen! 🤫🤭

Just to say, this was written by Queen and Bowie - but you might already know this by now. Long story short, I was with them all when this concept was realised, if I recall correctly it started out as a bit of a jamming session at the Montreux recording studio, Switzerland with the sound engineer (David Richards - a good friend and also no longer with us) playing the piano. Perhaps try and find some of the live concerts mashed together with Queen and Bowie.
Keep up the great work you're doing a stirling job on this - enjoy and all best wishes from the UK

The truth is that Freddie invented his stage presence because he was actually naturally very shy. His public persona was very different from how he presented himself as a private person. He stated this fact in one of his interviews: that he was not the same in private as he was onstage or when cameras were rolling. This makes his charismatic stage presence even more impressive as far as I'm concerned.
