the 22 LMP2 car crash made me wince with the way he hit that barrier. I am glad that they expanded that gravel trap instead of leaving it as the wall because that probably would have done more to that car if it was just a solid concrete wall.

Keep in mind that two years ago, the'volkswagen' 919 spent an hour in it's box and was able to crawl back 18 laps , overtaking the leading lmp2 in the 23rd hour, eventually winning the race. 18 laps on le mans...that's ridiculous. The lmp1h class is overpowered, and when they lose the electric propulsion, it takes a good lmp2 to keep the pace. So the 2018 victory, without hybrid competition , means nothing. Explained.
I am glad you brought that up - my design for an all electric INDY car, sent to a huge car company that rejected it with prejudice, (then went into bankruptcy and had to be bailed out by tax payers, as is tradtition...) My designs have a light weight battery pack where the engine would be, the "lump", that is quick change. A crane similar to the ones used in refueling now lifts the form fitting battery pack {range only 1 to 200 miles at race pace} out of the car as a new one swings in and lowers it down. A big switch locks it and full charge in about the 3 seconds it takes to switch tires in F1 now days. My point here is while ti would anger the 'tooth cutters', makers of the transmissions, the part most likely to fail even on top cars, a lot of money and time could be saved, amnd cars made faster and safer to drive, with just a generator on the engine and 4 wheel hub motor/brakes. 4 wheel drive with traction control for less cost and the electric braking is an even bigger advance; if you look at video of a certain F1 car, rhymes while MercSadies, locking up a tires that turns slowly so there is no need for a pit stop to replace a flat sided tire. Sadly my efforts to get work building new cars, some that exhast pure water(shhhhh, so secret) makes it so that this video and others is no longer seen "an error has occurrered, try again later"....
This is not a true highlight, the #1 rule in motorsports is that when Alonso is there, you must include his team radio in the highlights
