    Sophie, your video is an amazing work, produced so soon after the reopening! I sincerely had no idea of what to expect and am stunned at the quality of each and every aspect of the renovations you have shown us. I am especially appreciative of the attention to color the work reflects. Just beautiful. Thank you so much.

    Sophie, you’ve done a wonderful job on this video. We were fortunate enough to visit Paris in 2013 (we live in the US), and Notre Dame was my favorite. Looking forward to more from you!

    I love how the new main altar is so unassuming. it almost vanishes from the eye as you can look past it so easily to the other artworks and still is a marvelous central altar for the Cathedral. Surprisingly well done.

      What do you mean? That's literally a wooden bowl!!
      That's simply ugly and poorly done. It has nothing to do with the gothic style of Notre Dame...

      @@laercio8347 It seems that you don't really look at things before judging : the new furniture is absolutely not made of wood.

      This edifice was not constructed to showcase artworks nor provide easy and unobstructed views. It was created for Catholic worship. For the practice of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Any faithful, devout and traditional Catholic, should take offense at such an ugly and paltry expression, that denigrates and devalues the importance of the Consecration. If the French were truly serious about restoring Notre Dame, they would have restored it how it appeared in the Middle Ages, and it would not have resulted in this debacle, since Gothic Cathedrals did not feature long, unbroken vistas of the interior. The interior was sectioned off by Rood Screens, which separated the laity from the functions of the Sanctuary and the Choir. This arrangement can still be seen in some churches in France and in England. Ignorance knows no bounds.

    • @OCCA
      @OCCA Месяц назад

      @@LUIS-ox1bv sadly, you seem not to know your history. The high altar at the East End of the building would've been the focus of worship when this was constructed. the choir would've been the closest group of people to the high altar and there would've been an altar at the crossing of the transept. the altar that was constructed may not appeal to you, but it serves beautifully in its function as an altar in the current Roman usage.

    I saw Notre Dame in March before the fire in 2019, and I recall the reverence and beauty then. I would love to return to see the clean and refreshed interior as you have shown. This was but one of MANY highlights of that trip. Loved visiting France! Your video is well done.

    I fell in love with the "First Notable Lady" many years ago, mainly for what was there before the cathedral was built. I imagine the interior is now similar to what it would have looked like before 800 years of burning candles in the place. Before the Romans got there the Ile de Cite was thought to be the site of a Druid academy for as long as we can study Celtic history. Thanks Sophie, great vid mate, Cheers from 'Straya.

    Stunning images, thank you very much!
    Your wording is not entirely accurate, though. You keep saying "renovation", but Notre Dame was not renovated, it was reconstructed and restored. Renovation means you update a place by painting the walls with fresh pain, replacing old doors with new and different ones, installing a new heating system etc., for example. Restoration however means that you restore a buidling to its original state, removing for example wear and tear or replacing broken pieces with exact replicas but overall conserving as much of the original features as possible. So exactly what happened here - you even say it yourself: the painted walls have been freed from the dirt and sud of centuries, the stonework and masonry have been carefully cleaned, pieces of the woodwork destroyed by the fire have been replaced with replicas. Since the whole effort was basically unparalled, the restoration of Notre Dame is unique in the sense that we can now see the cathedrale as close to as it originally looked like when major construction was finished in the 14th century.

      Rubbish. By your definition, Notre Dame was restored, reconstructed AND renovated. The structure does not closely resemble how it looked during the Middle Ages because Cathedrals were not used as they are today. Cathedrals during the Middle Ages, were sectioned off according to their purpose, and did not present an open concept which people see today. When Medieval faithful entered Notre Dame, what they saw was not a long, unbroken interior with the high altar. They saw a Rood Screen which usually waa surmounted by a large Crucifix. The high altar, Sanctuary and Choir, were separated by a screen, consisting of sculptured work in either wood or masonry. The purpose of the screens was to ensure that the Canons or clergy could chant the daily office without interruptions or intrusions by the laity and also to deal with draughts, since the Cathedrals were not heated. This arrangement can still be viewed in rare examples in France and England. During the Renaissance and afterwards, the screens were pulled down. Notre Dame today is just a rebuilt, restored, renovated, and fanciful notion of its former self. Albeit a glorious one.

    Qué es eso de la RNA ? Una sociedad anónima ? Di el nombre, por favor !! El tiempo se incendió en Notre Dame. La restauración le sacó su identidad. Ahora falta que la dejen sin nombre.

      c' est stupide de dire cela, toutes les églises du monde ont sans cesse été rénovées, restaurées, beaucoup ont été en flamme, comme Notre-Dame, qui a perdu sa toiture, mais pas son âme, de quel pauvre pays venez vous, pour avoir ses pauvres idées...?

    C'est magnifique de voir Notre-Dame de Paris, aussi propre, aussi lumineuse. Ce qu'on oublie de dire c'est que nous sommes à peu près les seuls en Europe à avoir un patrimoine aussi important et à laisser pourrir sur place toutes nos cathédrales, tous nos châteaux. Tous s'écroûle partout, tout menace de s'effondrer sur les visiteurs et les fidèles qui vont à la messe. Traversez donc le Rhin et visitez donc les monuments, et les cathédrales et vous verrez qu'il n'en est pas un qui affiche d'aussi tristes mines. La France est gérée par des incapables et par des personnages peu reluisants qui se réjouissent de la situation. Transformons notre pays en musée et accueillons les gens du monde, en touristes, et rien de plus.

      It looks like a cheap afterthought, and highly unsuitable for celebrating the Eucharist. High altars in the past were given great emphasis in their creation because people of faith understood the importance and significance of what was happening during the Holy Sacrifice. Only in an age of effeminate, liberal secularism, cynicism, and belief in only corporealism and materialism, would folks opt for such a mundane excuse of religious practice.

      @@LUIS-ox1bv Keeping politics out of this, it's a design choice. It stands out like a sore thumb in a historic Medieval cathedral. They didn't even try blending the design. The Victorian era restoration, even if there was changes. They blended it well. The spire is a perfect example, It's not original, it's Victorian era, but it fits so well because it's in the Gothic style.
