This was a really cool tutorial. I always wanted to paper piece but didn't know where to start, I think I'll start here! This is an awesome design, great printout and easy to follow instructions. Best of all the video wasn't rushed. Thanks again Rob for another great video!
although I have tried foundation paper piecing multiple times, this one turned out to be my first successful completion. Violet made it super easy to understand how to do it. Thanks!!!
This was insightful. I needed my hand held through paper piecing since I've never tried it before. I'm definitely going to use this as a reference when I'm ready to give this technique a whirl. Right now I'm focusing on FMQ practice but this is something I'm excited about trying. Thanks for the video.
A wonderful demo! I've downloaded some of Violet's free patterns to practice with. Am starting that gorgeous lion tomorrow!! Thank you so much for such a great tutorial!!
Always fun AND informative! As you demonstrated, paper piecing is not 2nd nature; there's some thought and practice that needs to go on before doing it well. Violet's tips were very helpful.
This is so full of helpful info, thanks! I've never done this, I don't have an interest in it, but have a small project I really want to make for someone special. The pattern is simple, but my fabric is directional and I hadn't even considered that could be a problem - I can see I'm going to need to pay close attention!
Thanks for a great tutorial Rob and Violet Craft. My wife and I were going through a bunch of material that my mother in law had and found that she had started 3 different quilts all with paper piecing. One quilt was all sewn together except a few squares. The other two she had the paper butterflies pin to the back of the material. Now I know (kind of...) what to do. I hope you will consider making a tutorial on hand sewing a back on a quilt using an antique quilt rack. Just a thought.
Thanks for the great suggestion, William. I'll have to see what I can come up with! It sounds like your mother in law started some awesome projects, hopefully you'll be able to finish them up!
Great tutorial. Kind of demystifies paper piecing for me. It's so beautiful, but seems so complicated. Or it did before this video! Thanks for an awesome new tutorial! And I agree with some of the other viewers, Violet has a fantastic personality, and should totally make tutorials as well! =)
Fantastic video and I totally agree with the others that Violet should do more instructional videos. Those mini clips would help with holding the sections that your matching up along with the aid of the straight pin.
I have to say I have done a few paper piecings and let's just say a few new words were discovered!!! I would have liked to have seen Violet do the needle eye part which has very tiny pieces and are the hardest, then again the tutorial would have been very long! Great tutorial.
can u make one episode for extern beginner like me who dare not to make one and desparately want to make a small project to start with and complete it thanks
This looks soooo complicated and intimidating. Maybe if she were standing next to me and instructing me I could do it but I don't think I could do it on my own. I would make too many mistakes. It looks ridiculously hard and I can't believe how quickly the dude was catching on. I was not quickly catching on. I couldn't really figure out what she was doing and why or how.
Hi Markus! Here's a link to it for you! It's pretty cool, right? www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/46136/violet-craft/violet-craft/jungle-abstractions-quilt-the-lion-pattern
This is the most confusing thing I have ever seen. Paper piecing is not this difficult. You have taken a relatively simple technique and complicated it righteously. Wow. Just wow.
Thanks Rob for Bringing Violet on........love the instruction, she is great

It definitely keeps you on your toes! :)

You can do it Stitch Wishes! Let me know if any questions come up along the way!

Awesome! Starting the Lion tonight - this was a great primer.

Thanks for the awesome suggestion and comment Sasslette! I appreciate it!
Very helpful for improving skill level. Love this!
So glad you liked it!
OMG! Thanks for the great tips - I've struggled with PP for years. And, Violet, I married into the name, too! LOL! Sheila Craft
Too cool!! Gotta link up my printer so I can paper piece the needle!
Thank you. I also have problems with reverse sewing but I'll give this a go
All I can say is, practice practice practice! It takes time but you'll get there. :)
I LUV paper piecing.
I'd love to see some of your work sometime, Cathie!
Great channel! Hey, Rob, are you related to Ty from Trading Spaces? You remind me so much of him!
What do you use to do you use to make your paper pieced patterns.
I'm not finding the downloadable pattern for the needle and I would really like to learn how to do this from Violet!!

I like the elephant pattern. Is it english paper piecing or foundation paper piecing?
Hi Pamela, The elephant pattern is a foundation paper piecing pattern.
Thanks for your reply.

Where can I get her templates? The lion is amazing!

I thought it was just me.
+Melody Stillings hahaha! No. This is painfully confusing. I know a bit about paper piecing and it is NOT hard. Good luck.
:-( Still confuses me....I guess I have to watch this video a dozen more times.
