It looks like there are many different flags representing troops so therefore an alliance of the nations that are part of the continent, I’m guessing some territories were released prior to game start for USSR and colonial holdings to not be Europe
Because south America turned grey, what happened is one country from a continent was given all the states in that continent and because you can't rename countries in Hoi4 without nodding, the simulation is on faction view and every continent has a faction with the right name. South America turned grey because after losing to NA they didn't join a faction. If there were multiple countries per faction, you would see borders within the factions. This is seen when Brazil joins the NA faction and turns blue. For reference, USA united NA, Brazil united SA, Germany unified Europe. China united Asia, Australia united Oceania and Ethiopia united Africa. Edit: just realised that towards the end you can also see a no faction Suriname and a new faction in South Africa, its too small to see what its called though.

How can Europe and Asia be considered separate continents but America be considered one continent? The only thing connecting them is the isthmus of Panama. Geologically they are entirely different continental plates. Additionally South America and North America are just as connected as Africa and Asia.

Europe wins most of the time by having hood supply points than Asia even though resources and man power wise, Asia should've won. Tried it a few times, it's way easier to play as Europe than anyone else. You pretty much overrun Middle East and get their oil because lf how bad the supply problem is for Asia. Sometimes Africa took out Europe because Europe being way too focused on Asia. It always gets me that the AI never ever try and naval invade the americas or vice versa.
