the unironic reason is that bandai hasn't been able to keep up with demand for existing kits - demand for gunpla has skyrocketed since covid started and the japanese government is beginning to tax petroleum more intensely. Both of these things have meant that bandai has been struggling to consistently maintain production of kits they already have molds for, and so it represents a much larger cost to create a new kit than it would even 4 years ago. PG kits in particular represent a huge investment for bandai; that's why they're only ever made for suits that are universally known and popular. It's not just that they haven't thought of it - they arent sure if itll pay back their initial investment
I left a link in the description. Since the release of my review, I believe they are sold out. But they are expecting a restock at the end of the month.
Not a bad review at all. Most of the points you made about the kit I agree with. Especially about the tolerances of some of the pegs. What I would like to add is the quality assurance from Nilson Works. I noticed that your kit did not have the same defect that mine did. For the backpack, the right mini booster pod one of the armor pieces that covers the section where the wing folds out was not cast correctly. It is missing a good quarter of plastic that would've formed the tip of the piece. Just like you stated about replacement parts, depending on QA, you might be stuck with a defective piece. Also, I noticed that a couple of pieces had stress marks on them before I even inserted a peg into them. For example, that peg that connects the upper and lower body had stress marks on the hole where a section of the abdomen attaches. It sounds like I'm dunking on this kit, but I truly do love this kit and happy that I did get it.
I like the way you put it in the beginning, people think a model is bad because you have to make adjustments but sometimes the challenge is part of the fun. there's almost nothing that can't be fixed on a kit, I'm currently working on the Real Grade Zeta Gundam and the amount of hate it gets is pretty crazy, I finshed the legs last night and can't wait to continue on it.
Yeah. I've learned that there are no really bad kits. Some just require more work to build. But it's all part of the process to grow as a builder. If this kits case, the adjustments were made not because they were needed but to extend the longevity of the kit.
Well, both kits have yheir own appeal. On a personal level, the Monument appeals more to me. As the Tallgeese III is one of my favorite suits. Both kits have awesome shelf presence.
sky defender is too much. I mean its great but the details are out of place, too much pointy details. every 3rd party kit has this unique characteristics where they look like pointy or edgy. this PG monument repair is not one of them, looks like this is made by bandai and not a 3rd party model kit.
Thanks for the great review. I have ordered this kit and could use some advice. What did you do with the drill to improve the peg fitment? I have heard from other reviews that the shoulder to arm peg is very tight and needs sanding. How do you sand a peg for a good fit without being to loose?
Thank you for your comment!! I only used the drill because mine had peg holes that were a little tight. As far as joints, i did sand mine a bit. But just enough. For longevity, i do not recommend oversanding.
Thank you for posting this I have it on pre order for November. This makes me super excited. Pretty sure I seen your original post in the Gundam Fb page a week or so ago so I’m definitely glad you posted a follow up on what you think of it and everything.
I'm waiting mine, it's arrived at paris (can't wait !!!!) nillson have done very cool astray kits (better look and poseability than bandai's), cool review and nice warning about the waist separation, I will do something about this (without glue if possible)
@@animousworks About issues I could tell that the front skirt supports need to be sanded a little to rotate proprely, the same about the main shoulder pegs, there are so tight (be careful when you rotate the arms), the same about the mobile ball jointed below the waist, the balls are too tight too, it need some work. but the kit is awesome and is a pure beauty !
Since yours got a correction paper for the manual did you get a review kit? Hoping they fix the tight issues if it is but thankfully I have some sanding sponges just in case
To clarify. The tight tolerances are not a problem with a kit since they add to the durability. However, as i like reposing and shifting my models around, i took an extra step to loos3n them a bit. Although they are still tight, lol
@animousworks you should do it man!! I mean, even a straight build looks so good already. If you paint it, you might not be able to pose it all the time as it might ruin the airbrushed paint.
This ome was sent to the channel from GMC for review. However, after your purchase is confirmed. If you purchased from GMC. Depending on the warehouse, anywjere from 2 to 3 weeks.
While i havent built a bandai pg yet ( unicorn in backlog) you are dead on it being a smooth build. Wrapped mine up last night and for the price mannn...its fonna be hard to top
Facts. Compared to bandai PGs. I'd say it's there with the quality but with better looks and proportions, lol. The price point of this kit just makes it nice. I enjoyed it as much as i enjoyed building my pg exia.
@@animousworks Yes. I would like to know what's your opinion of those kits are because I want one to get but I don't know if I should get the XFS HG GM Spartan or JMS HG Spartan? Xingdong and the newer companies AK added a few more weapons, the Kar 98k sniper and another machine gun.
@@pyromaniack13 I build the AK model toys of GM Spartan. I had issues with the policaps, in which I had to remove the policap and trim a bit of it off. Some of the parts have this white stuff from the mold press.
the sky defender still better i think if we are paying this much money for 3rd party this needs to better than others no loose or way to tight and holds itself together, yes a few mods or sanding needs to happen sure, but not everyone is going to do so and just wanna enjoy this kits as is specially for the price, this might be a few dollars less that the sky defender but at least you can see it by the build quality just watch your review alone, justification aside the torso coming off that easy knowing that the model kit is bottom heavy is an oversight for this beast of a kit
Thank you for your comment!! While I agree with your statement. The sky defender was one beast of a model kit. And this model is cosiderably cheaper than the Sky Defender. We are talking about a quarter or more so depending on where you buy it. The corrections I made were due to preference. The model itself, although it had high tolerances (meaning tight fitment) it did not require the corrections I made. Those were made purely by choice. I do understand why they made the kit botton heavy. However, it did not take away from how sturdy the whole kit is or how smooth the build process was. You do need to pull to remove the top part. And just to clarify. When the kit is put together, the top part does not come off. But i do believe that NW could have done better to secure the connection.
@@animousworks i agree and ur right sky is a bit expensive but i guess the way sky is being presented by most is that anyone can build it with near to none extra tolerance issue what so ever as long everything is follow by the manual, we all know that some batch might some issue but what the sky is doing giving an mgex build x hi nu design in mind for the price that like points on points for the sky i mean man this tallgees is a sick redesign for sure but to some its like saying get the mgex and knowing that there might be issue along the way tolerance issue as well just an option got the mgex and return when i saw the sky lol might be my bais

But id recommend staying away from daban lol Edit: i did do the sky defender.. he was flawless aside from having to squeeze the top of the guns on amd glue them together.
Well. "Bootleg" kits will always have issues here and there for sure. But all these third-party kits I've built so far that are original designs and engineering have been flawless. This kit specifically I expected it to have ton of problems but it didn't. It was a smooth build from beginning to the end.
That's not a problem for non-straight builders. Clean-up, peg modifications, sanding, scribing/rescribing are actually part of the hobby aside from painting if you're willing to put in the work and learn.

Gundam Central.
