Pro tip and how I think 99% of these can be fixed. Simply take out the white "plug and flush out the hole-pipe-channel. When I inspected mine it was clogged with half congealed detergent. Flushing and cleaning it and problem solved. This is not a complicated part, so unless your detergent tray is warped, I'd think it should last forever. Just clean it.
Although it was a long video for a simple solution- I really appreciate it! This is exactly what was going on with mine. Wouldn't have known I needed a new one if it wasn't for this! PS: The fact that this video has 280,229 views, you've helped a lot of people Mike! Thank you!
August 2023 reporting in - thank you! Echoing others, I didn't understand the siphoning function of the white tab either. I appreciate your taking the time to explain it thoroughly.
Never had a washer with this cup before I moved into my current rental recently. It was filling up to the top after a cycle and wasn't sure if this was normal. Turns out the cap is missing and I know that now thanks to this video. Thank you
I ordered this part online for less than $15 verses $50 @ the local parts house. Much to my surprise my problem of detergent not dispensing was resolved. Repair estimates locally were $79- $128 plus parts. This video saved me a bunch! Thanks a lot!
@@stevehilliard1495 Don't even need to do that. Just take the white t-shaped part out and clean the gooped up soap from the passage and the drain hole on the bottom of the tray. Literally takes 3 minutes.
@@georgepetrillo7316 I hope it worked. This was my problem. Gunk in that white thing and around the ring on the blue. Water didn’t go down. I took it apart and washed the gunk out and now the clear water is going down. Nice to fix the problem found out after 10pm with this video. Still might get a replacement part.
If you clean and it fails try this... I cleaned up everything but still no quick drainage, in fact no drainage. After much experimenting I determined that the white dispenser has to be pushed down into the blue cup just the right amount or the siphon fails. Push down white piece too hard and fail and likewise too loose fail, with a little work you'll get it just right. Yes, slow video but still very informative, especially the siphon info. Appreciate.
Thanks so much! Relieved to know it's not that big of a deal and an easy fix! I'm starting to get sick of dumping the water out which is always full after EVERY cycle! I'm bummed because we've only had it for 2 years but hey, at least it's a $10 fix. Thanks for the advice!

Part, change in HE tide, just needed cleaning? I hope it is the cleaning part. But honestly it is after 10pm and so glad I could problem solve it with the video. Clothes starting to smell out of dryer. And a few full dispensers of water. Something definitely off.
OMG! This video was painfully SLOW! When you poured a 2nd cup of water in the cup I just about lost it. This 9 minute video could have been done in 3 minutes! BTW, how about pouring hot water in the cup to melt away the detergent buildup and clear the residue clog?
I want 9:03 minutes of my life back. This video could have accomplished its objective in 10 seconds... 15 tops. Watch it if you're having trouble falling asleep at night.
You are the only one that explained the water siphoning property of the dispenser. Thank you! How about the bleach dispenser behind the soap? Mine doesn't dispense at all. Frank
Hi there. I know this video is older, but hoping you still monitor this channel. This video was so helpful. Thank you! The liquid bleach and softener containers behind the detergent container hold water in my washer. Would the fix be the same - replacing the trays?
Thanks for educating me about the water siphoning properties of the dispenser cups. However, after cleaning everything thoroughly, I finally learned what is causing water to remain in the cups after a full cycle! Check the water pressure at the main water valve to your house. It should read somewhere between 60 and 75. (If you don't have one, you can purchase a pressure gauge on line or at any hardware store for about $6.) My valve needed to be replaced, and then was set at 65 psi. Not only does the water no longer make squealing noises as it enters the washer, the cups are no longer filled with water after a cycle has completed! Voila! It's all about too much water pressure roaring into the cups!
I'm glad you found your solution. However, it didn't apply in my case. Our water supply is well dourced with a pressure switch set to operate between 30psi - 50psi. It is gauged and monitored. This hasn't changed, but after 5 years of service, water is now left in our LG dispenser (all three compartments) even after a thorough cleaning and replacing one part. Still investigating.
My LG washer started doing this after only 4 years. I've tried all the other possible fixes and am willing to try this. But, what I want to know is what the heck causes this? Two plastic pieces with no discernable wear. They just stop working. Why? It's kinda crazy.
Every single LG appliance I've ever purchased has been an overrated piece of garbage. Short answer solution to any LG problem? Have a friend over to help you load the washer into the back of your pick up truck and drive it to your local garbage facility.

We have one of those. A very odd design. I still wonder how the liquid is removed from the cup as the hle is at the top of the cup. I thought for a siphon to work you needed water at the end of the hose/hole.
So now that I know it is a siphon device, I believe my issue was caused by soap/sediment build up on the drawer just below the soap cup.We have hard country water. Maybe some CLRr would be a good idea.
Just wondering. Does water go in the compartment when washing? For example, whethee you put liquid detergent or strips in the compartment, does water flush it out? How did the water end up in the video?
I have been dealing with this for a while. I have cleaned and cleaned, and just today finally took the top off my washer to get into the entire soap dispenser and clean it, because there really is no other way to clean out all the tiny holes. At any rate, my issue is of course standing water, but also, after I do a load of whites and put bleach in, the next load of laundry, will get bleach spots everywhere from the standing bleach left in the tray! So, it's obviously not just clean standing water sitting in there. We have destroyed a lot of clothes unfortunately due to this. So..... what I want to ask, is, why did the original soap dispenser cup stop working? And why is a replacement better? Also, how do I ensure all the bleach is being used?
Thanks, nice to know this. However it should NOT of been happening with my brand new, top of the line, LG Steam w&d set right off the get go. I tried all the suggestions in the manual. LG customer service could only suggest the same pointless steps listed in their manual. Why doesn't LG know about this? And why didn't LG offer me a replacement soap cup right off the get go!?!?!! How about the easy solution? Cleaning out the gunk in there with a toothbrush... sometimes you neeed to do with all the containers and the drawer itself. Seems like I have to do it every year or so... what I want to know, is how do you know if there is a clog or forming INTERNALLY or pump going bad? There are some times when we run the washer through the cycle, and the soap is still in there after. ALSO... our fabric softener one doesn't work at all. We went to strictly dryer sheets
Not the case. My brand new LG Steam washer was dead on level. Front to back, side to side and diagonally. The problem was there from the very start and LG customer service is no help whatsoever! Waste of money buying LG products.
GE Front Loader Model GFWR4805F0MC. The fabric softener cup does the same thing. It has been replaced 3 times. It either works, clean water stays in cup, or a mix of softener and water is found. Many times it overflows and runs down the front of the machine. The only fix was to stop using fabric softener and switch to dryer sheets. I would like to fix this problem. Thank you.
Thank you for explaining the siphoning process. Never could understand how the system works. I damaged the tray, probably because I didn't know that the release button would aid in the process. They've discontinued the tray for my model (WM2277HS). Rolled the dice on #PD00034805 and found after swapping the face plates, it was a match.
My LG is brand new and does this so I don't feel that buying a new cup would make a difference. Has to be something else. Also, why would you have to go pour the water down the sink, can't you just pour it right under where the cup fits in?
Much better to use powder anyway. Powder doesn't gum up the machine like liquid, or cause smells that accumulated scummy liquid residue can do. Powder is also much cheaper (at least in the UK) and more environmentally friendly as it comes in card rather than plastic packaging.
I heard something pop on mines when it was spinning, now my drum is scrubbing when it turns. What I need to do? Or what’s wrong. I have the same washer
You might not have to buy new despenser, mine had a piece underneath that needed cleaning, the holes were plugged up,try cleaning it first. The detergent will harden and get in the holes.
My issue is the two trays behind the one that you removed in the video are gunky. I cant seem to remove them so I can clean them properly. I have run the washer with a cleaning detergent and that seemed to clean the drum but it did nothing for the trays. Any suggestions on how to remove them?
Press down on the blue part where the bleach is and pull the entire drawer out. Trust me. I just did this and almost died when I saw what was UNDER it.
Don't know if you still need an answer to this question but I'll put it here in case someone else does. There's a small lever on the cover of the back left cup (in my washer and the one in this video) that says "PUSH" and it has a little indentation on it. You hold down on that spot and pull the tray forward. That button releases the catch. Hope that makes sense, I don't know all the right terms to use.
I have a brand new LG washer pictured here. It did this after the test wash. It has done it every time since. It was purchased new and professionally installed. Why would this still happen?
Thank you for posting this video. Good to know that this isn't a big deal or a big issue to worry about with the washing machine... but, I may buy a new liquid detergent dispenser if I get tired of dumping the extra water out. Great demonstration!
Actually he said to test it with overflowing the blue thing with water, if it didn’t drain he showed how to separate the two pieces, clean then and try the test again. He then told how to replace the blue thing. 350,000 near watched it.

for front load it's ok to put liquid detergent inside the washer with all the clothes right? will still clean great like in the detergent drawer slot spot?
Thanks for the video. I am trying to use LG washer in my new house. the machine dispenses soap into tub, but does not fill tub with water. it also stops at rinsing cycle giving me 0E error. is this something to do with dispenser?
the HE machines actually weigh the tub before dispensing. So I add a gallon or two of water first before starting the machine. this way the machine actually adds a bit more water based on "weight" in addition to the water weight that I put in to begin with. these HE machines are designed to run on just a tiny amount of water !
Hello, my soap doesn’t even dispense at all. Still full when wash is over. Full of soap. Any ideas? I’ve been just dumping it strait without the cup. I see very little water spraying out when it’s washing. Just trickles from the back when the tray is removed.
After a wash cycle if the detergent is gone but the dispenser is filled full with water does that means the detergent reached my clothes? Are my clothes still washed and cleaned?
I've discovered that the softener dispenser section is dispensing into the wash cycle instead of the rinse cycle. Has anyone else had this problem? I was thinking of simply lowering the water pressure is a machine. It seems the water pressure might be emptying everything out of the tray at once and that lower flow rate might keep the fill water confined to its intended section.
Do you know why with the LG washer and dryer combo ventless, the clothes doesn't smell good? I love the clothes when they smell like fabric softener. And no matter how much fabric softener or dryer sheets I use the clothes still doesn't smell like fabric softener.
Vanessa Carrion Hi. I’m having the same issue and I read on a forum that there may be calcium build up in the inlet valves causes the water to leak in and that CLR will clear up the issue. Please update me if you find any other solutions. Thanks in advance.
Good information. But be patient... this is one of those RUclips videos where the person goes on and goes, talks really slow, and finally gets to the "fix" part of the problem after about 6 minutes. Makes you want to scream waiting for the solution. The 9 minute video could have been done in about 1 minute... with no pertinent information lost.
He must get paid by the hour. Why oh why isn't this a 10 second video? In the pantheon of useless videos, this rates highly for a unique blend of: 1) verbosity mixed with non-dramatic moments of silence 2) worthless proposed solution, 3) lack of curiosity of why a new container works but the old one doesn't. That snapshot of the business card at the beginning takes the cake.
I started watching this video in 2017. Almost done, can’t wait to see the ending in late 2019.

8 minutes to tell the fix is to “buy another container”.
If the first box assembly looks clean and not broken, why do I need to buy another? Why would the water be present if it isn't broken?

So I add a gallon or two of water first before starting the machine. this way the machine actually adds a bit more water based on "weight" in addition to the water weight that I put in to begin with. these HE machines are designed to run on just a tiny amount of water !
My problem is that detergent is left behind as well. I washed it including hole with same issue
Hello, my soap doesn’t even dispense at all. Still full when wash is over. Full of soap. Any ideas? I’ve been just dumping it strait without the cup. I see very little water spraying out when it’s washing. Just trickles from the back when the tray is removed.
Same issue. Cleaned everything. Our LG is only months old.
After a wash cycle if the detergent is gone but the dispenser is filled full with water does that means the detergent reached my clothes? Are my clothes still washed and cleaned?
Thank you SO MUCH
I've discovered that the softener dispenser section is dispensing into the wash cycle instead of the rinse cycle. Has anyone else had this problem? I was thinking of simply lowering the water pressure is a machine. It seems the water pressure might be emptying everything out of the tray at once and that lower flow rate might keep the fill water confined to its intended section.
His solution @ 6:00 was to buy new cups
Thanks for making this video..
Thank you
Do you know why with the LG washer and dryer combo ventless, the clothes doesn't smell good? I love the clothes when they smell like fabric softener. And no matter how much fabric softener or dryer sheets I use the clothes still doesn't smell like fabric softener.

my top loader washer is leaking from the dispenser, how do I fix that? WT7200C
Vanessa Carrion Hi. I’m having the same issue and I read on a forum that there may be calcium build up in the inlet valves causes the water to leak in and that CLR will clear up the issue. Please update me if you find any other solutions. Thanks in advance.
my softner cup holds water and stays full of water. How do I fix it or clean it?
Good information. But be patient... this is one of those RUclips videos where the person goes on and goes, talks really slow, and finally gets to the "fix" part of the problem after about 6 minutes. Makes you want to scream waiting for the solution. The 9 minute video could have been done in about 1 minute... with no pertinent information lost.
March 1, 2023. I'm sure the ending is almost here.
Sheesh. This video could have been done in 30 seconds or maybe 1 minute max.
this video should be no more than 90-120 seconds
solution at 6:00
Mine is holding the softener. How do i fix that?
I wonder if it's as simple as a buildup clog?
My problem is the bleach starts to drain before I even push the dispenser back into the machine :(
He must get paid by the hour.
