Joseph Joubert (1754 - 1824)
French writer. He was a teacher in the provinces, and from 1778 he settled in Paris, where he maintained good relations with encyclopedists, was Diderot's literary secretary. In 1790, after the death of his father, he returned to Montignac, was elected a judge there. In 1792 he resigned, returned to Paris, and got married. In 1808-1815 - inspector of the Imperial University. Not personally interested in politics, Joubert closely followed the political and social life of France. He was one of the first connoisseurs of Shakespeare in France, and from the very beginning he joined romanticism.
