I loved my dad so much when my sister called me with just 3 word, DAD, AMBULANCE, HOSPITAL. I KNEW THEN IT WASN'T GOOD NEWS. MY DAD WAS GONE BEFORE I GOT TO THE HOSPITAL. The doctor said he was dead before he hit the floor. He was 62 years old up early to make his breakfast before going into work. He had retired from Maytag after putting in 30 years but he really didn't sound to happy just sitty around all day. So he worked for the public school system driving special needs kids to and from school. He loved those kids and they grew to become very fond of him as well.They all wrote very special letters to us telling us what a special man he was to them. Brought tears to my eyes.Dad's been gone 33 years and I'd still recognize his voice, his laughter, everything about him. They say time heals. I'll just say you learn to live with it. A I sit here and write about my dad, my eyes are too blurry with tears to continue. I'm 73 years old I lost my dad 33 years ago when I was 40.11 years later I lost my older brother, he was 54, and 11 years later, I lost my mom. She was 73. Sorry I took so long. I remember my dad and listen to Daddy's hands over & over. For my brother his wife chose Go rest high on that Mountain. and for Mom, we decided on Amazing Grace.

When we left my granddaddy’s grave after the funeral, we had a 3 hour drive home. The song “daddy’s hands” played on the radio and my mom had to pull over. A swarm of whitish to light blue butterflies swarmed our car flying in circles around it. I’m talking tons! When we finally made it home and we got out of the car, there was still quite a few flying around us. I still can’t believe this happened, and it was around 20 years ago.
I wish we had cameras back in that moment. The whole car ride home was silent..but the butterflies reminded us that it wasn’t just a sad day. It was also a happy day. My grandfather had made it home and was at peace. A very bittersweet day!

Cancer is so damn cruel. Really. My daddy passed in 32 days from colon cancer which he was regularly scanned for due to his momma suffering so with it. I honestly already know it's how I'll go too. what happened
My dad went to be the Lord 6 years ago today after a short fight with cancer. I remember kneeling by the sofa with my sisters singing this song together while he sat on his bed in the living room listening to us. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a tear roll down my dad's cheek. But it was not a tear of hurt, sadness, or suffering. It was a tear off joy. I felt like in that moment any doubt my dad had of how much we loved him and knew he loved us and how much he sacrificed for us growing up was gone. As our voices pulled through the lumps we sang as one for him. Less than a month later my dad was called to heaven. He is missed every day but on this day I miss him most add this is the day he left me and my sisters and brother. Love you daddy!

This song has always reminded me of my daddy :) He is a Godly man and a great example to me- something that is rare these days! Today has been 9 years since I lost my Dad to cancer. He worked hard, blue collar, and was just like the song describes. When I smell the scent of auto grease, it takes me back to when I was little and he'd come home from work with hands black from the grease and oil. The soap just didn't always get it all til he got home. I miss smelling that... We played Go Rest High On That Mountain at his service, When I Get to Where I'm Goin, and also this one. I sing this one, and Lorrie Morgans If You Came Back From Heaven. That one isn't father/daughter, but it's beautiful. I lost my fiancé on his farm 5 years ago. I was raised 'old school', and I always respected Dad. I raised my own the same (minus the switches and belt), they are all grown now (36, 29, and 21) and still get compliments on how well behaved and courteous they are. Ok, the 36 yr old didn't quite catch on, gave me grey well before my time, and is still a snot, but 2 out of 3 ain't bad.... lol None of them ever ate a Tide Pod, or licked a public toilet seat though! lol (that still floors me that those people were raised w no common sense....lol) Whew didn't mean to ramble, missing Dad and my dogs don't say much back, so y'all get to hear it. ;) I hope everyone has wonderful holidays! We always set an extra seat, for those we've lost.

I lost my Grandpa two days ago.. came looking for this song to put on his memorial video for my Mom and Aunt.. describes my Grandpa perfectly. He was an amazing Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa and Great Great Gpa. 97 long beautiful years. Next week would have been my Grandparents 71st wedding anniversary. Im so glad we celebrated at 70th with a family reunion...they exchanged their vows again. ❤❤ my Grandma is 89 and still with us. Heartbreaking to see them separated. We lost my daddy 1 year ago today. I vowed when I first heard this song I was going to sing this at his funeral. With the help of my daughters boyfriend and dad's strength, I sang it. Athrough Z It is so true about hurting us more than them. My dad never raised his hands nor his voice at us. He explained with a firm attitude about our faults. He was a strict man and worked so very hard to keep the family fed. He was the most tolerating person I had come across in my life. When he helped people, he never expected anything in return. Several of his friends whom we never met showed up at his funeral and praised him for being helpful and kind hearted. He even lent them money to start a small business. He never told us anything about it. We are very proud of him. Bless you dear dad. See you someday. xxx

One of my grandmother's favorite songs. Said it reminded her of her father. Did not ever meet my great grandfather but it brings back lots of great memories with my grandmother, which leads to lots of great memories with all my grandparents. Still miss them all and they have all been gone for a while now. For everyone out there who still has their parents and grandparents around, go and spend time with them, you will not regret it later. I regret as I got into my 20's and beyond not choosing to go spend time with my grandparents and it is something I have to live with for the rest of my life. That is time and stories that you will never get back.

My dad was also a Marine. He fought during the Vietnam war. He passed away today, August 20th.

We selected this song as one to be played at my father's memorial service. It was playing just as my mother, sister, her husband and I walked into the funeral home's chapel. Seeing my father laying there in the casket looking 20 years younger (before Parkinson's Disease wore away his body), I broke down crying. He prided himself as being a "Do It Yourself-type" so for him not to be able to make use of his hands really broke his spirit.
