Freestyling... the Disco World is a short documentary I created in University. It shows a taste of the Disco World through the opinions of Dancers, teachers and Parents.
People say his isnt dancing.well its my life i dance everyday and i enjpy it so much it is so good for building your confidence and to keep yoy fit it is amazing when you are sad you dance happy you dance depressed you dance it just keeps the emotion running through your bofy
Anybody that doesent do it says its not dancing and its so easy but its actually not and i do feel that they should show slow dance aswell i agree with that 👍🏻
I know this is an old video, but I just wanted to say that I really liked it! I've been dancing for over 10 years, but different styles (ballet, contemporary, jazz, acrodance...), so disco freestyle is just fascinating to me. It's in one way very familiar - I do walkovers, illusion turns and acro tricks like that too in my acrodance routines (and I also do circus arts like contortion, aerial work, hand balancing) - but in many other ways, disco freestyle dancing is very different. You can tell it takes a lot of hard training and lots and lots and lots(!) of stamina to do this. Yes, I can do many of the moves and tricks you guys do, but definitely not that fast! It definitely is dancing - people who claim otherwise just haven't understood what dancing is yet (how sad) - and I really enjoy watching it. The slow version is actually very similar to contemporary/acro dancing, so I can relate to that a lot, but the fast version is just breathtaking! Keep dancing and having fun, all you disco freestyle dancers! Please know that many 'classical' dancers like me appreciate your style of dance. There's just a very vocal minority that puts the label 'not dance' on everything they don't quite get :)
Yes this is dance! It is extremely hard so it really annoys me for how hard we work and everyone says it’s not dancing! And it’s not disco dancing it’s called freestyle-disco dancing 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Anyone who says this isnt dancing, it is ts my life. 5 days a week is how many days a week i train let alone stretching everyday. You have to work hard to get to different levels. Ive been doing it 5 years and im in prem champ in fast and champ in pairs and slow. Its hard work ...
I do freestyle dancing and it's brilliant it takes hard work to do it that's something people don't no we have to work extremely hard to get where we are now
I have just recently opened my own freestyle dance school in plymouth and was wondering if it'd be okay for me to show this to the parents, i think its really insightful and explains freestyle in more detail then i could. Great work ! xx
its a special memorial competition, called the Anne Cricthley memorial competition! the only one we're actually allowed to film in! So that's probably why they choose that competition... They not allowed to wear costumes at this competition! it's the only on like this :)
Your documentary is really comprehensive and accurate. It covered everything I remember about the Freestyle World in the couple of years I was part of it. Coming from a theatre dance background beforehand, the freestyle world was a shock to the system and there are certainly parts of competative freestyle I feel need to go (prices of costumes, over 'enthusiastic' parents being two) Great film.
But they aren't moving rhythmically AT ALL. Looks like a bunch of kids in ugly pageant clothes running around like they are having fits. No pointed toes, bent legs and endless "illusions" an actual dance more for beginners. It doesn't look nice or talented......
It's running around a gym looking like you are having a seizure :/ There is NO talent. Dance requires rythym, flow, grace. This is the opposite of graceful. It's a joke.
I don't know what the backside you call this but dance has structure timing and melody movement. Don't get me wrong it's great seeing young kids have fun kicking the air to dance music but it's really a workout to pinky and perky remix.
Don't say this isn't dancing because it's my life and i don't know what i'de be doing if i wasn't doing this and though that u don't do it and u don't like it u can't just say it's not dancing 🙄

But since you brought it up, this is to dancing what contemporary art is to actual art: basically a lot of flailing around, only without a paint brush.
It is dancing u have not much to say u dont do it u dont know how hard it is and how much work people put into it u cant just say thats its not dancing it is dancing! Maybe its a different style that u normally might not see but it still is dancing
Have you ever being to one of these comp if not how can you judge you have to.watch it to.understand what freestyle all about both my girls dance there are both retired now I still go all over to watch the girls dance I love it

This is dancing it's just not what most people are used to, it annoys me that people never show that we do slow dance as well

because it was a charity/memorial comp! all black, no tan, no make up etc..
I dance like this and my dance school has big rivalries with other dance schools but my dance school is friends with this dance school
