    Here is the schedule of RTE 1 and RTE 2 from Friday, one week after this RTE 2 start-up (If the comment about the date is correct): Friday 27th July 1984-

    RTE 2

    Because it was the Summer period, RTE 1 and RTE 2 were running a reduced schedule (which was usually the case from about June to September). During normal schedules in early 1984, RTE 1 would have started at 3pm with the Good Afternoon segment of programmes (which included children's programmes and would remain the case until Dempsey's Den came in 1986). RTE 2 would usually start slightly earlier than this line-up, between 5.45 and 5.55pm. This was the period when RTE 2 was struggling to survive, and would remain this way with schedules not improving until the relaunch of the channel as Network 2 in October 1988 (when programmes would start at 2.30pm)

      @@johnking5174 This was 1983 cable tv wasn't gettable we had 4 channels then got RTE installed we needed a roof top aerial and a booster my auntie and uncle in Enniskillen had RTE they suggested buying RTE We receive RTE on sky RTE is available on Freeview Great service provided by RTE wouldn't be without it, There was TARA television which closed down RTE took TARA tv to court and the court ruled favor of RTE Who pushed for TARA to be taken off air TARA tv owed RTE a lot of money which RTE never received.

      RTE2 launched in Ireland on 2nd November 1978 with an original schedule to be from 6.55pm-11.25pm Mondays to Fridays, 3.00pm-11.30pm on Saturdays and 6.00pm-11.30pm on Sundays. However by 1981 budget cuts affected the channel so much that RTE considered closing it down. By 1982 onwards 5 or 6 hours a day was the most it would be on air, excluding key sporting events and national events.

      At one point I believe R.T.E. 2 were broadcasting the same episode of Dallas night after night they were so short of viewers and money. I believe the channel was launched by [the late] Sir Terry Wogan and Lorriane Chase. R.T.E. could not show The New Zealand All Blacks lose to Munster on the day of R.T.E. 2"s Launch. The match was only covered by one Film Camera. Much to Munster"s annoyance. What is the latest news on N.B.C. Universal buying out I.T.V. PLC in 18 months time?

    • @johnking5174
      @johnking5174 8 лет назад

      No news on that, I think was a false alarm. ITV PLC have purchased full ownership of UTV in Northern Ireland and UTV Ireland in the republic. We have seen first signs of ITV meddling, the old UTV website is no more, now it is itv.com/utv

    • @garrysimpson1395
      @garrysimpson1395 8 лет назад

      Good I can remember when N.B.C. took over SUPER CHANNEL in 1992. It lasted 18 months leading to the end of SUPER CHANNEL. Has I.T.V. PLC got rid of U.T.V. In vision announcers!

    • @johnking5174
      @johnking5174 8 лет назад

      Not yet, but word from some of my sources say there is going to be a big re-launch in September. Michael Wilson, the head of UTV had said the new UTV logo based on the current corporate ITV logo, new look UTV News to be aligned with the same design as other ITV local news programmes, and new idents and presentation will happen "later in the year", but from some of my sources I have heard 5th September 2016 with be D Day for UTV. In vision continuity is an uncertain, I doubt ITV bosses in London want IVC where the rest of their regions have no IVC.
