1:25...this disturbing sound, as if something terrible is really about to begin. Nice video, I subscribed to you, hello from Russia! Sometimes, in the Perm Territory, there are strong thunderstorms with a gale wind, but a tornado almost never happens😄
When I was a kid, my father gave me a subscription to Popular Mechanics. One month, they had an article about the massive 1966 Topeka tornado. That story scared me, even thought tornadoes are very rare around here.
On June 8th, 1966 my wife (12 at the time) and her family were in their home less than 1/2 mile from Burnett's Mound. Her mom looked out the window and saw the tornado was already coming down the mound, so they ran into a bedroom (no basement) and got down on the floor just as the tornado hit. The only thing left on the foundation was a few broken water pipes. Her father wasn't injured, her mom spent a night in the hospital, my wife and her sister were treated and released.
I was 12 as well on June 8, 1966. I was living in north central Missouri at the time. But I was sure aware of the Topeka Tornado. I still have the full page pictures of the damage in Topeka from the Kansas City Star newspaper. What a horrific storm. What a scary experience that would have been. My family moved to Topeka in 1968, and I remember the damage path being so visible from the mound. Even to the present time I go up the mound to take sunset pictures. While I'm up there I always think about that tornado.
@@unknownrider3071 That is quite a keepsake. It's hard to believe that the 57th anniversary is coming up. Back on June 8, 2019 I went up the mound. I walked around and took some pics. I was up there around 7pm. There wasn't anybody else there. It was so quiet, it felt a little eerie.
Are there underground storm shelters provided by the apartment? I think that's the only way I could live in Kansas or Oklahoma was if I had a shelter underground.
Ive never been in a tornado but West Allis has had 3 besides the 66 that hit in our life time ! Ive come very close to being in a tornado but it hit 14 blocks from the house I was living at and hit at The Wisconsin State Fair 14 blocks away ! The only 3 that were ,listed if you ask how many tornados recorded are 3 1962 1975 and 1977 all in August ! THe one that hit the State Fair was in August of 1975 and it did go over the house but did not touch down did 14 blocks away !
I've lived here in Topeka since 1968. I wasn't here for the Big One in 1966. In the years I have lived here we have had a few that have touched down near town.
Patt brooks i live in west bend wisconsin, been here since 1975,the dates you gave i dont remember any hitting that time, the 1's i remember are the 1981 EF-4 that hit west bend in april that hit after midnight by taking the city by surprise cuz it wasnt seen on radar,no warnings,no sirens until after it went through,it took the northern part of the city, very few even seen it on the ground noone saw it coming until it hit,all on radar were severe thunderstorms, the few that saw it on the ground said it was big,it did alot of damage and injured/killed people,it was anticyclonic, had over 200MPH winds, and it moved through so quickly thats partly the reason why very few seen it,and after all that it was rated EF-4,theres a city cant spell it starts with B in 1984 that was hit also at night it leveled the city injured/killed people, not sure size/wind speeds but it was rated EF-5,and then cant remember date but siren was hit by an EF-4,merrial (cant spell it) was hit in 2011,im thinking was EF-3 or EF-4,oakfield in 1996 EF-5,stoughton in 2005 EF-3,hartford in 2006 that 1 wasnt rated cuz it came out of nowhere and took the city with no warning not alot of damage but injuries no deaths, very few seen it someone filmed it it was a small rope, richfiel in 2018 EF-0,if i remember a few years ago in january kenosha was hit EF-3,then in 2011 the appleton area EF-2 and EF-1,then the recent outbreak this past summer, and a few years ago madison got hit too,so do you remember these that hit wisconsin
@@pattibrooks1907 i dont remember that 1 for some reason, was it a big 1 like an EF-3 to an EF-5,if it happened in 1975,i was 2 so maybe it did but just cant see anything online about it the things ive found was from 1984 to now
Not really, the sky can be orange but it's not a sign that there is going to be a tornado, it's actually when the sky turns a green/yellow tint or goes completely black.
Yep...that color of sky looks exactly like Northern Calif in early fall 2020 during the wildfires that mysteriously occurred....as well as a completely unwarned, unexpected sudden surge of Thunderstorms ‼️‼️‼️🆘🆘🆘‼️‼️‼️

By the time this recording was ongoing, there was already a tornado on the ground that day.
True.
That sky looks super scary! If I saw the same thing like in this video, I'll freak out and I'll be hearing the tornado sirens
The sky looked pretty scary in person.
Scarier than Oklahoma

Was a crazy looking evening let me tell ya! This over near la Casa?
Yes it is Chris.
How far is the tornado towards Topeka.
Reminds me of when the Anderson tornado happened. I was in Lawrence, not far north of where the tornado passed through the city.
Are there underground storm shelters provided by the apartment? I think that's the only way I could live in Kansas or Oklahoma was if I had a shelter underground.
There is a laundry room in my building that is somewhat underground. We are supposed to go there.
This is a cool video. Wish I had a home to watch storms from. Sorry to everyone thats lost a home due to a storm
You captured some really nice lightning flashes.
Thank you!

It's a good thing that I live in Tennessee, though Tennessee does get tornadoes, tornadoes in Tennessee aren't common
Same in Michigan although it seems like tornadoes are more common in the southern part of the state.
Same where I live in Wisconsin. Worst ever is EF 1 stuff.
