This is about the Best lecture I have ever heard on this topic, and I now have a much better understanding of a lot of what went on in the Nation of Israel, and the purpose HASHEM brought that Nation, and Its people's into being, and the process of making them into what HE intends for them and the world on a whole. Rabbi Sacks has left the greatest gift imaginable to the world in His Teachings, I am so blessed by them .

Another symmetry over time that has struck me is the triad of Tamar, Bat Shua, and the Citonet Passim (coat of many colors, and the 11th generation of Tamar (David's daughter) with her Citonet Passim, and Bat Shevah. In the first story the coat is dipped in blood to fool Jacob, Tamar is the active agent and Bat Shua (with a "vav") is silent and only a connector that brings Tamar into Judah's circle. The second Tamar is the passive victim who rents her coat in dispair after her half brother rapes her, and Bat Sheva (with a "bet" or bayit) is instrumental in assuring the succession from David to Solomon. To me, this is one of those G-dly winks at us, if we think that G-d is not actively present in our story

Consider also that Naomi's heritage is preserved in the Kinsman Redeemer and Ruth's heritage is established in the Kinsman Redeemer. So also National Israel and the true Church share this relationship with Jesus Christ our Redeemer. And as Ruth loved Naomi so the true Church loves National Israel and her God is our God. BUT.....the story is NOT about Ruth and Tamar. It is about Ruth and Orpha. One left her people and joined the Jews, became a ger tsadik and the other came back to her people and all about her is gone. This is a prophetic picture pertaining believing NON-JEWS. Some will become GERIM, and the others will cling to Constantinian churchianity. This book points to SHAVUOT and at Mt Sinai there was MIXED multitude --- indeed, Israelites and NON-Israelites.
A very nice lecture and interpretation. But when he said that the kingdom of David was preserved forever , doesn’t that lead to racism and royal blood and non royal blood. Peace Negash Mohammed. The Christian doctrine is that all men are equally sinful. It is inherited from Adam's disobedience. Likewise all men have access to God's forgiveness through the blood sacrifice of His own Son Jesus Christ. Luke's gospel says that Jesus Christ is the Son of King David through the Virgin Mary (also sinful) but conceived without flesh by the Holy Ghost. Matthew's gospel is not a genealogy of Jesus but is given as a timeline. Thereby as the mother's blood and the baby's blood are separate Jesus Blood was divine and suitable as an offering for the sin of the world (to die in place of). And as our scriptures tell us that God is a Trinity so Adam was made in that image...Spirit, soul, and body...also a trinity. When Adam sinned he (we) died spiritually leaving man to operate as a soul and body united. When Jesus came He gave us Spiritual Laws...but He doesn't expect people without the Spirit of God to be able to keep them. Read about this in the book of Romans specifically chapters 7 and 8. This is why our laws in the west are always in such conflict. We attempt to make good laws but must consider that mankind cannot attain to righteousness without God's Holy Spirit within us. Jesus Christ never sinned but fulfilled the Law of Moses and when we accept His Salvation he restores the Trinity within us. Today our Spiritual laws are ministered by the (true) church and our carnal laws are administered by the government. He is a good and loving Savior who extends God's mercy to all that call on His name. He is the extension of God's Mercy. He restores us to a right relationship with God the Father. John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." He is coming again. Sorry this is not true! 87b different sages give different calculations but the Talmud concludes no1 knows the exact date!
