Wasn't a fan at first but The Stand definitely made me want to read more Stephen King! I also forgot to mention several great characters like Nadine, Larry, Joe--TOO MANY.

The Stand is one of my favourite books - I've lost track of how many times I have read it. Other books by him that I would recommend are IT and 11.22.63. The latter is less 'horror-ish', actually not 'horror-ish' at all, just a cracking good story.
The song that always makes me think of Randall Flagg is Red Right Hand by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

A book of Kings with a similar multitude of in depth characters I enjoyed was Needful Things.

If you're enjoying King I'd say give his son -Joe Hill- a shot. For me, Joe takes all the things I like about King and turns them up to 11. In all fairness that's probably because King's books feel dated now, and Joe's have benefited from the all the work his father's done for the genre. NOS4A2 and The Fireman are incredible. The Fireman also deals with a plague as well.
