    This is one of the best pieces of documentation of the Comma system. I have been searching for this info for so long in discord but it's all bits and pieces. I think we need to start an open-source project for documenting the information. The more clear the documentation is, the more people can contribute to it.

    Great tech! soon car makers will enhance their security and people just can't inject devices into the system anymore. Same thing as jailbreaking your iPhone. It becomes harder and unnecessary. But it's like 10 years scenario from now, and I hope the company gonna grow to be something bigger at that point.

  • @raghuparedla362
    @raghuparedla362 Год назад +1

    Companies like these must grow (that make FOSS components and make business) and then the ecosystem will eventually force car manufacturers to adopt standard interfaces for plug & play and also to get diagnostic information much easily.

    How old of a car could openpilot hypothetically work on? Is a LKAS camera absolutely necessary? Could it potentially ever even work on cars without a built in LKAS?

    • @grekiki
      @grekiki 3 года назад +6

      Absolutely. If you want to do custom actuators you can make it work on cars without CAN like a 1990 VW van which someone managed to get working. But even with the stock actuators, I got a Caddy to work that has a manual transmission and no adas like not even cruise control

      @@grekiki I was thinking about this - having a Renaut Twizy and an Audi A2 in mind - when watching some videos. Both with CAN bus but a Mercedes S124 does not have this.
      One is the steering. I suppose with power steering soon afterwards CAN Bus control was implemented. It's not there with the Twizy. (Traktors is a separate issue but for field work they added steering and an accurate GPS).
      Another very important interface is brakes. Nearly for sure not there with the Twizy. Electric Re-Gen is not enough.
      For the Audi A2 which was built from around 2000 to 2005 both, Steering and Brakes need to be figured out. Re brakes, it could be there is information because of ABS.
      The DBC build tools here will get very interesting.

    When you have connection to the other systems.. Like climate control or infotainment.. I think there is a great opputunity to the people from the open source community to make "apps" for the platform like.. Preheat the cabin from the connect website, when using the comma three with LTE and stuff like this.. Or open / close the car, battery status remotely. Because I miss these features very much on my Hyundai Ioniq 2019 vFL, because in Europe the Ioniq vFL hasn't the BlueLink connectivity and I miss them very much. I think there are a lot more cars, that has the problem. In Germany alot of the cars from Stellantis (Opel, Peugeot etc.) with begin of the next year, because they kill the plattform. Even for newer cars like a 2022 Peugeot e208.

    What happens when the stock AEB requests a deceleration for more than -3.0m/s2 ? Does the panda filter it or pass it through?

    • @abdulrahmanabdurrab9391

      good question. I think AEB messages are passed through.

    • @Kefford666
      @Kefford666 3 года назад +2

      The panda just filters messages going from OpenPilot to the car so it wouldn’t affect the cars built-in systems.
      The STM32 would receive a USB packet, analyse the values and then either create a CAN message if the values are valid or discard it if not valid. Might send a NACK back on the USB port. Messages already on the CAN bus would be received by the STM32 but it has no control over those.

    Comma is great for right now but I see comma ending up being swallowed by a car manufacturer the functionality of openpilot is starting to be released in regular cars Ford blue cruise…Cadillac super cruise these will improve and will trickle down to lower priced vehicles leaving comma without a market unless they allow themselves to be swallowed by a specific manufacturer and build their system for them… agin I love openpilot and have it in my car but I don’t see a future for the company as a stand alone entity because automakers are starting to hardwire this functionality into their vehicles

    Whatever you DO NOT waste your money on the comma!!! I'm sure it's just as cheap and nasty as the Comma 2 which started failing just after a year. 2kAUD down the drain 3kAUD down the drain if you buy this one. Plenty of other people with the same issue on reddit and discord. Crappy 1 year limited warranty with barely any support. Even their support page says we won't help you if they think it's something you should be able to fix yourself. Their online help they refer you to is a discord which has a similiar mindset...smh
