Once you have that overview, you can drill down into specific events that interest you. If history had been taught this way in school, it would have been far more interesting and students would have learned a lot more. The only thing is that they do go through so fast that it takes several views to catch all the details (particularly for those like you whose first language is not English), but it is very much worthwhile.

Churchill was trying to make a V for "victory", but accidentally held his hand up backwards, and his staff had to tell him that was street slang for "Up your ass". He thought it was a hilarious mistake, because he wanted to tell the Germans that anyway.
When I was in school they didn't really teach about the war. They mostly covered the Holocaust and the Nuremberg trials and a survivor of the holocaust came in and told his story. But the war itself they didn't really teach about it. But my grandma was in the navy in ww2 so she kind of made it a point to learn about the time

I guess that's why they wrote the "Oversimplified" series. I have to give props to Dasha for historical curiosity. Not many people really care about history these days.

But Hitler signed the non aggression pact with the Soviet Union which basically destroyed any plans the west had. There was also reluctance on the US part for any significant Russian involvement in the pacific theater, the fear being whatever territory they took, they’d keep after the war as in Europe. The mistrust went so deep Churchill was drawing up plans to attack the Soviet front lines after the war ended in Europe in Operation Unthinkable.

For example, British views on WW2 differ from that of Japan, Germans view differ from that of Russians, etc. Even though we can look at history for events, not every culture covers all aspects of the war or their involvement in it.

A few things. Technically, the Soviets argued that they had not invaded Poland, merely taken custody of Polish lands from Germany after Germany had more or less dissolved the Polish government. This is bullshit of course, but the alternative is trying fight Russia and the Axis simultaneously, so.... yeah. The second thing is that the British and French had specifically guaranteed Poland against German aggression, as Hitler had demonstrated dangerous expansionist and revanchist ideas and a complete refusal to abide by treaties. The Soviet Union after the Winter War was a bit of a laughingstock and many did not believe they were the primary threat to world peace.

And as for the racial policies being unfascist, Mussolini never really made up his mind on that. Hitler's way was massive Government/State control & intervention, which is a left wing method. Republicanism - Various forms available, you could have left , middle, or right wing. NSDAP - I'm sure there was a decision to make it sound popular, but it did apply these core beliefs. The part about racial superiority & subsequent actions wasn't promoted so much until Hitler's power base became secure. Hitler didn't want a class system, & never trusted the remaining aristocracy, which was a big issue for him, as a lot of the senior German Army were. In the armed forces, the old class system was discarded. Hitler 'worked with' (bought off) Industry, Army & Church officials, but that was just political convenience for him, he was still establishing state (i.e his) control. I'm sure Mussolini did use racial propaganda when it suited him (i.e when he was about to invade somewhere), but there wasn't the element where he said Italians are better than everyone else, or the completely planned control (& later systematic extermination) of a particular race or religion. Despite conflict, I've not heard that the Italians denigrated the Greeks for being Greek. There was far too much classical respect & history from the Italians for that. Mussolini was far more worldly wise than Hitler, he'd travelled more to other countries, & had been a statesman for far longer. Hitler had only a very limited, landlocked view of the world & economies, & his viewpoint was shaped by pre WW1 German territorial ambitions, & the German collapse in 1918. Hitler never got over this. Fascist Italy kept it's King & aristocracy, Hitler made sure the Kaiser was never coming back, & was trying to remove the class system. Fascist Italy's economy never collapsed like Germany's did just before WW2. It wasn't necessarily a good economy, but it kept going, & traded with the world, unlike Germany. I'll agree though that it still hadn't had to incorporate the military expansion of Germany's. To be fair, Hitler's idea of the extermination of the Jews idea evolved over time, originally it was to remove them from society to a place they could be controlled. Once the war started, the areas he wanted them to be taken to, were unavailable to him. He still saw them though as a class/race that was a threat to the world. Most political systems get lumped together. Due to the sheer number of them, fractions & splinter groups, the main points are just aligned. Franco gets lumped into the 'Fascist' camp, as he was fighting socialists etc, but he wasn't a Fascist.

Nazis are left wing due to how they handled the economy, viewed monarchy & their social system. It's even in their name. If they are not Left Wing, what are they? They're not right wing, & cannot be.
Fascists don't have the racial policy of Nazis, at all.
The Germans took over all the industries they could, to control them & the economy. Hitler wanted to create 'Autarky' (self sufficiency) & to do this, he needed control, which also helps stamp out opposition.

The Nazis handled the economy by essentially selling it off to massive consortiums which collaborated with the government for mutual gain, which is corporatism, a fascist idea. There is this common idea that the Nazis attempted to institute some sort of command economy, with the syndicates little more than servants to the party, but there is no evidence of this. The various corporations in Germany did not comply due to coercion, but because there was simply a lot of money to be made when the regime openly promises to assist you in crushing workers movements, grant you special privileges, and allow you to crush small business in the name of keeping the war machine running. As for calling themselves the National Socialist German Workers Party? That's a deliberate choice to appeal to as many people as possible. It's the 1920s German equivalent of someone in America declaring the "Democratic Republican Conservative Labor Party," it's a nonsensical name that's meant to attract all kinds of people. And as for the racial policies being unfascist, Mussolini never really made up his mind on that. Some days he would declare racism to be an affront to fascism by weakening a civic nationalist ideal, other days he'd use racialized rhetoric to stir up hatred against blacks and Slavs. But the important thing here is that the ethnonationalism of the Germans is not antithetical to the fascist ideology, but a particular form of it. While Fascismo (which I will use to refer to specifically the brand of fascism practiced in Italy) upheld the nation-state as the player in the perpetual struggle of peoples to secure dominance, Germany held up the race as that player, with nation-states developed to rule and organize them.
Germany was not traditionally right-wing, this is correct. But the left and right wing dichotomy is simplistic and flawed. That's why fascist nations were typically referred to as third-positionists, as they claimed to offer an alternative route to modernity than socialism or liberalism. People like Tik are blinded by their own ideological biases and seek to lump their opposition into one monolithic enemy that stands against their own beliefs (Tik, being a right libertarian/ancap, is likely conflating Nazism and fascism with Communism due to both being statist and collectivistic).

Autarky/self sufficiency - is desired in all political systems, it's how it's implemented by that Government that defines it. Hitler's way was massive Government/State control & intervention, which is a left wing method.
Republicanism - Various forms available, you could have left , middle, or right wing.
NSDAP - I'm sure there was a decision to make it sound popular, but it did apply these core beliefs. The part about racial superiority & subsequent actions wasn't promoted so much until Hitler's power base became secure. Hitler didn't want a class system, & never trusted the remaining aristocracy, which was a big issue for him, as a lot of the senior German Army were. In the armed forces, the old class system was discarded.
Hitler 'worked with' (bought off) Industry, Army & Church officials, but that was just political convenience for him, he was still establishing state (i.e his) control.
I'm sure Mussolini did use racial propaganda when it suited him (i.e when he was about to invade somewhere), but there wasn't the element where he said Italians are better than everyone else, or the completely planned control (& later systematic extermination) of a particular race or religion. Despite conflict, I've not heard that the Italians denigrated the Greeks for being Greek. There was far too much classical respect & history from the Italians for that. Mussolini was far more worldly wise than Hitler, he'd travelled more to other countries, & had been a statesman for far longer. He had seen how other countries ran themselves, economy & their politics. Hitler had only a very limited, landlocked view of the world & economies, & his viewpoint was shaped by pre WW1 German territorial ambitions, & the German collapse in 1918. Hitler never got over this.
Fascist Italy kept it's King & aristocracy, Hitler made sure the Kaiser was never coming back, & was trying to remove the class system.
Fascist Italy's economy never collapsed like Germany's did just before WW2. It wasn't necessarily a good economy, but it kept going, & traded with the world, unlike Germany. I'll agree though that it still hadn't had to incorporate the military expansion of Germany's.
To be fair, Hitler's idea of the extermination of the Jews idea evolved over time, originally it was to remove them from society to a place they could be controlled. Once the war started, the areas he wanted them to be taken to, were unavailable to him. He still saw them though as a class/race that was a threat to the world.
Most political systems get lumped together. Due to the sheer number of them, fractions & splinter groups, the main points are just aligned. Franco gets lumped into the 'Fascist' camp, as he was fighting socialists etc, but he wasn't a Fascist.
