    My favourite MFT lens, before someone else gets this, I thought I'd do a little mini review / opinions video on why I love it.
    I did forget to mention there's no stabilisation! If you're curious...
    I hope you enjoyed this video! LIKE and subscribe if you want to see more.

    The lens hood for this, like all original manufacturer lens hoods, is built to accommodate the widest angle of view. Of course the 55mm hood is deeper because it doesn't have to get out of the way of a wider field of view. Look at telephoto lenses hoods. They are extremely deep for the same reason.

      @@JackWoodhams the lens hood has to be that short, otherwise you’d see it in the frame due to the wide angle.

    Nice review. I like seeing opinions based on actual use instead of just stats from the spec sheet. I've just bought the 12-40 based on one of Robin Wong's reviews and his sample images. Your review confirms it. This is a very versatile lens, capable of great images.

    • @derJackistweg
      @derJackistweg Год назад

      Robin Wong is supposed to ONLY GOOD things about Olympus - he is advertisement channel of Oly!
      Besides that I am back and forth between 12-60, 12-40 or 12-45 for my GH6. And price is a key factor.
      Although I would love the 2.8, the smaller size, weight is a benefit on the F4. But mostly I will probably next week by the F4 because of its way better contrast against light, and it is way sharper. Probably also faster focussing...but that is tbc.

      Im just glad coz someone in my place sell 12-40 2.8 for 180 usd.
      He is quitting photography and maybe planning to use the money for something else.
      I immediately grabbed the offer.

    Great review. Sometimes you come across a piece of kit that just ticks all the right boxes......no nonsense .......just works. This is my experience also. Yes it’s a bit big, but that robustness is its biggest strength, it is so functional and a pleasure to use. I am constantly amazed at the proportion of photos taken with this lens.....the exif data doesn’t lie. It is sharp, with beautiful colour, edge to edge and all with 2.8 at all focal lengths. The only reason to change lens is for specialist low light work, macro or telephoto work where the Pro f1.2 trio, the 60mm macro and 40-150mm f2.8 pro lenses shine. On an Olympus E-M1 mark ii or iii the phase detect autofocus is a dream and exploits the lens to the full. Best camera & lens combo I have ever had.

    Many thanks for the quick assessment, it has been made precise, short and to the point. I think this lens is amazing for shooting weddings both still and movie shots, due to its fixed bright F2.8 aperture and zoom coverage from 24-80 mm, covering wide angle, standard and portraits in one go.

    I paired the 12-40mm f2.8 with the Oly EM1 mk2 a few years ago. I still use it as my "go to" lens with my OM-1. I would describe it as, awesome, brilliant, versatile, perfect. I think you get my thoughts.

    I have paired the 12-40mm f2.8 with the Oly EM-5 Mk2 since 2016. Great lens. The only thing is it is a little on the heavy side with this type of camera. Looking at a 25mm f1.8 to do street. Apart from that, it is indeed a superb lens :)
