Carol's work in this sketch certainly wasn't easy. I can't imagine what swinging from a chandelier, while dressed in a huge 18th century gown and wig, was like.
DreamDancer82 that was not at all period construction - perfect for the sketch though! The fabrics were very light and gauzy but the chandelier love was impressive
Gabrielle's last name is hilarious - it's literally the French word for potato! Also, I LOVE how Carol lost it when Burt put a second beauty mark on his cheek - she was infamously tough to crack up.
Hilarious! They all did their own stunts plus the few goofs made it extra funny! Burt was a riot as Charles de Gay / Lavender Pimpernel. Still adore the Carol Burnett Show!
Omg! I don’t remember seeing this one...I would have remembered Gabrielle Pom de Terre! 😂😂😂 Bert Reynolds was hilarious...The best set and costumes ever on the Carol show. 🥰 Thanks for the upload!
Look at all that magnificent Mackie work! Burt!!! Omgah! "I must check my color..." I miss this show!! So glad it's here....priceless! TYSM! Sub & big, longtime fan in Nashville!
Thought that Burt Reynolds would be the same height as Harvey Korman, but I was wrong. Thanks for uploading this great video. Please keep Carol alive on RUclips ❗🤣😍
Your the funniest lady ever ...Carol...Great performances everytime...you always got me smiling, when times were tough... you rocked your life...what a way to live...a huge fan😁❤❤❤
We sort of had an indirect sneak peak at Harvey's future character in Mel Brook's History Of the World Part 1 - Count De Monet. Thank You, again, for the upload.
That was so excellent! Good memories! Thank you so much. And thank you Carol and all her cast and special guests that just amazingly entertained us week after week without losing your grace and style. We appreciate you.

Just watch this on MeTV never seen it before and Burt Reynolds here is a riot! Like a skit from the Johnny Carson show and they just ad-lib This is fantastic what a great time to experience this comedy Love these players .....🌟🌟🌟
Oh god this is so funny. Burt Reynolds should have done more comedy tv. He was great. Love the costumes and those fake hair pieces. My god the wedding dress so beautiful. I have a couple of Bob Mackies Barbie dolls and I wish their was one like that dress but not head piece, lol.
One thing I love about these period pieces is the costuming. Bob Mackie did a great job with them here. Except for the wigs. I'm not too crazy about those 18th century wigs. I'd like to see one that's so high, a woman can't get through the door, and she has to squash it down to get into the room, and then pump it back up with a bicycle pump to get it back to it's normal height (and then having it blow out and squash back down again).
I've just read The Scarlet Pimpernel, and I can't get over how upside-down they have it here. The Pimpernel saved aristocrats from the guillotine. He was not a hero of the people. And he was British. Setting that aside, this sketch was great, especially how Burt changed personas.
Reminds me more of Zorro. Hiding a swashbuckling, rouge personality behind a wealthy fop to confuse and avoid suspicion while rescuing the poor from tyrannical rulers.
Never expected to see Burt Reynolds playing the cream-puff! Very funny.
He's like, the only person on the Carol Burnett Show to out-gay Harvey Korman.
"A little more aide, and a little less de camp!"
"The guards are coming!"
"Oh, thank God."
😂😂😂
Hilarious! Carol nearly lost it at the end...she's the best!
*Burt is hilarious and the sword fight is Brilliant. 😂*
*These costumes are soo gorgeous I just drooled everywhere. 🤤*
*Bob Mackie is a Genius. 😻*
You are right. I couldn't stop laughing.
true however a bit overdone..
This costuming is exquisite!!!!!
Carol's work in this sketch certainly wasn't easy. I can't imagine what swinging from a chandelier, while dressed in a huge 18th century gown and wig, was like.
She is amazing....game for anything...
I was amazed how Burt dropped with her on his shoulders and they fell to the ground.
@@SunnyGirlFlorida I heard those 18th century gowns could be pretty heavy, what with all those hoops and crinolines and petticoats.
DreamDancer82 that was not at all period construction - perfect for the sketch though! The fabrics were very light and gauzy but the chandelier love was impressive
she took chances for a joke, a laugh.
So funny seeing Burt here playing it up all girly. What a hoot.
Back in the day when people understood humor for what it was.
@@notovercome right! These days they would called him homophobic. I missed those old days.
These skits looked like so much fun to watch, be in, laugh at. Good times!
"I must check my color!" 😂
Burt & Lyle together at last, it's almost too much.
Perfect!!!
Burt Reynolds was such a fox, seriously he was devastatingly handsome. He really nailed this sketch, what a hoot.
He wasn't, actually--but, damn, was he brave!
He was wicked funny too
I dont get it.
he was also six feet tall - which just goes to show how tall harvey korman and lyle waggoner were!
@@sharondelagarza4802 lyle Waggner was 6'4 & half inches!
That gown was beautiful
Step back, I dont want you hurt.. LMAO (Carol side winder right into the wall)
Totally hysterical and the flubs made it even funnier. :)
Gabrielle's last name is hilarious - it's literally the French word for potato!
Also, I LOVE how Carol lost it when Burt put a second beauty mark on his cheek - she was infamously tough to crack up.
Yeah, both of those moments got me as well
LOL! I Pimpernel is supposed to be a red flower/wood sorrel.
Pommes de frites is french fries
You're right, Irina Kermong; "pomme du terre" is "earth apple".

Previous experience as a stuntman, Burt Reynolds wasn't afraid to throw himself into this role.
That was quite a production for a TV sketch.
Have you seen their sketch, "Went with the Wind"?
I would say that for A LOT of her sketches had a nice big production. That’s why I’m a 90s baby and love this show so much lol
This was a great take on the original movie with Leslie Howard and Merle Oberon. And the prancing around, priceless!!!
A brilliant hilarious adaptation of The Scarlet Pimpernel.
I still prefer the Looney Tunes cartoon "The Scarlet Pumpernickel", but this is good, too.
Burt was a Stuntman as part of his career along with acting
Burt Reynolds was brilliant in this sketch. No hangups he played the part to thr hilt. Good Lord, was he agile! Wonderful fun!
Hilarious! They all did their own stunts plus the few goofs made it extra funny! Burt was a riot as Charles de Gay / Lavender Pimpernel. Still adore the Carol Burnett Show!
The sssss...lavender pimpernel!!! Love it!!
Do you think the child of Flambeau and Pomme de Terre would be a baked potato? 😂
Yes, I caught that as well. :)
I was thinking they have twins, and they're French Fries :)
Ha! Those costumes make me crave Easter candies. The colours, oh my.
This is genius, brilliant, and Oh my God, what marvelous costumes! Wow!
Oh my gosh..Burt What a character....he was so humorous....sooo miss hos funny movies....R.I.P....you were an AMAZING actor..😁❤❤❤
This skit was out of this world...😂😂😂 wonderful comedy!
As a gay man I must say this is freaking hilarious!😁😁😁😁
Burt was a sexy De Gay!
I miss comedy like this you almost never see it anymore unless you track down the oldies .
Fantastic Comedy show.
Burt Reynolds was fantastic. He matched every expression.

How have I never seen or heard of this skit? It's so wonderfully flawed in addition to being priceless.
How have I never seen this skit???!!!!!! This was hilarious!!!! I think The Carol Burnett show is the funniest show that ever existed!!!!
Those were the days, Laugh's, watching The Carol Burnett show..
Thought that Burt Reynolds would be the same height as Harvey Korman, but I was wrong. Thanks for uploading this great video. Please keep Carol alive on RUclips ❗🤣😍
Harvey was very tall. 6'3" or 6'4. I think Burt was "only" 6 feet. Jeez Lyle is even taller.
I thought Burt's limbs seemed short and therefore I thought "Wow, I never knew Burt looked so short! " Ok, if he was over 6'......
@@miltownusa I agree! Very noticeable how much shorter Burt appeared next to Harvey. Burt: 5' 11, Harvey: 6' 3 and Kyle : 6' 4
Burt isnt very tall think he about 5'8" he always had to wear those lifts in the shoes or have the shoes built up
Absolutely loved this. Wish this was an ongoing sketch, Burt was perfect with the cast!

Count Da Money! ......Don't correct me! haha......It's good to be the king....
Oh, Piss Boy!
Count the money.
I love the pimpernel's shoes!
Oh how I miss Burt Reynolds! Think I’ll be watching some of his reruns tomorrow!
Burt was a stuntman, but you knew that already.
"Lost your sword, eh?" I plotzed!
Was that Nanette Fabray, too?
Still laughing!
Yes.

Burt Reynolds threw himself into this sketch.
Literally.😁😁
Mr Reynolds certainly had great comedic timing. He will be missed. As was Mr Waggoner. He too will be missed.
@@geraldstephens6612 let's not forget Harvey Korman. Tim Conway too even though he wasn't in this skit. May they all rest in peace! :'(
My favorite line: "Let me check my color!"
SO hilarious to see him this way, particularly because he always played the "tough guy" roles!
Burt Reynolds is hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I never knew Burt Reynolds was such a scream until I saw this skit.
Apparently, you have never seen Canonball Run. Lol
You're right, I haven't. I know it's full of celebrities, but I didn't know he was one of them.
Thank you
don't you just love harvey's french accent?
"Don't get saucy with me, Bearnaise." Wait, sorry, wrong act.
"Poor devil's a quart low!" 🤣
8:10 burt almost said "scarlet".... LMAO......
I always thought he was taller.
That’s the first thingI noticed
@Roxberrie, I did too. I think when a celebrity's personality is larger than life, they always seem taller. Strange isn't it?
I always liked Burt Reynolds...but after watching this? I LOVE Burt Reynolds.

Bob macki out did himself with these costumes

At about 8:10ish he almost said Scarlet. Lol 😂
Burt was hilarious. He steals the show!
The costumes! Absolutely magnificent!💋
Omg silliness
Burt Reynolds 😂🎉❤
All I could think of after seeing Harvey Korman in his costume was his bit in History Of The World Part I as Count DeMonet.
Didn't realize Burt was so short!

Gabrielle Potato. 🤣
Yes. There would be a lot of hollering about this skit these days. Geez
The Scarlet Pimpernel parody. Even though I haven't seen the original Scarlet Pimpernel movie. Not once
Back when comedy was funny without constant shaming
Aside from the fact that it was constant humiliation for the gay community/blacks/Mexicans, etc. but we can skip that.

Why does this remind me of Zorro The Gay Blade? lol
The sketch did predate the film by 9.5 years

Gabrielle Pomme de Terre!
Pomme de terre is what they call a potato. Literal meaning, "apple of the earth"
Burt’s too funny for words! And so handsome and charming too. Hilarious! I wonder if the beauty mark was actually on purpose at the end.
