Being a GM Ana, Lucio and zen player with a lot of friends in plat, I play with them a lot on smurfs and most of them have great game sense. This guy understands the fundamentals of the game and has great game sense so it could just be that quick decision making or slight aim or positioning mistakes are holding him back.

Watching people who are really good and understand the game on a higher level than you is always going to help you learn what to do and what not to do!

As a Ball main I do agree, he is probably the hardest tank because he plays so differently from the rest. But when you do finally figure out what you’re supposed to do it feels so rewarding cause at the lower ranks NOBODY knows how to deal with you and it feels like free SR at that point. I had been stuck in bronze my entire carrier and that hamster carried me all the way to gold a year ago. Which may not sound like much but I had been playing since early 2017 so to finally get past that, in just one season, it felt amazing. Granted I still do have a lot to work on, I’ll have my moments where I feed my brains out and on my way out of spawn I have to take a moment to reassess the situation and yell at myself.

My favorite way to use Ball's mines is to drop them juuust behind the enemy deathball and/or frontline during a teamfight. Mines are already a pain to clear, but if you place the mines behind them then the enemy can't clear them for a safe retreat without turning around and removing their attention from your teammates. And if they're already in that "advance-retreat" rhythm they might very well back into the mines before they realize where you dropped them. (They're also really fun to drop on top of a bunker.) Thanks for the video! Really appreciate the tips on Orisa and Sigma's barriers.

After watching your video and applying your steps, I saw a huge improvement in my gameplay! I won 4/5 of my tank placement games instead of a typical 2/5! Thanks man, I'm gonna keep this in my Favorites to refer back to.
Seems useful to me. May try some of this, ball especially. Sigma was the one I find the easiest personally but if the team I’m in isn’t great I tend to switch to hog or ball since either can play semi-solo if forced to and still work pretty well for objective purposes.
i've always liked them big beefy boyz lol tanks are really fun to play i used to hate playing rein so i've played offtanks but now i try to play rein on payload maps since i feel like hog, dva, zarya, winston & ball are really good on other gametypes like 2cp

Shooting shields does not build ult. Breaking barriers is helpful but the main thing is to look for opportunities to use halt to trap and finish off out of position squishies or to combo with other abilities like hogs hook imo 🥭

I dont think this guide will be able to help anyone other than beginners and sub silver players. Most things mentioned about tanks specifically are either incredibly simple and obvious concepts and often just plain wrong. The fact you didnt mention off angles and lane control at all alone when talking about hog is concerning. Most of the tips cover micro play. Maybe next time talk about macro, lane control and fundamentals rather than how to combo and what a heros job is at an incredibly basic level. I dont mean to be overly toxic but i dont think youre in the position to make educational content as a plat/dia console player. Sure this might help a bronze player get to silver but it wont teach them how to play correctly, just slightly less incorrectly. Most things said about specific heroes werent exactly correct. Reinhardt: Why stop at 2 swings? If theyre not pressuring you into shielding you can and should just keep swinging into their rein to apply pressure, farm ult and secure the kill. Theres (almost) no reason to shield after every 2 swings when youre not being pressured into playing defensively. Reinhardt does not pair well with: Roadhog and Brigitte. Orisa: Putting her shield in the open vs near natural cover doesnt do much when it comes to it breaking. The main reason why you should put it near natural cover is so you have somewhere to fall back to when it breaks. Orisa does not pair well with: Ana, orisa ana are generally not played together becauss ana really struggles in and against double shield(which is what youll often be playing when playing orisa) Zarya: The things mentioned were all correct but very lacking, although bubble usage is very important its far from the only thing you need to understand when it comes to zarya. If youre not off angling and controlling lanes/high ground youre not doing your job as zarya. Also tech like right clicking to manipulate enemy movement and right click + melee combos wouldve fit into this guide since we mostly covered micro anyway. Roadhog: It really doesnt matter which tank you play hog with since he just does his own thing. Sure hog rein is bad bc rein and hog dont play together well at all but it hardly affects the roadhog, same thing goes for nearly every other tank. Its not a bad thing to "rob" your healers of their ult charge by healing when not in direct danger since youll get the ult charge instead. Especially bc you dont have control over how your healer uses their ult. Hog does not counter tracer, its really hard to hook her and shes just gonna farm ult off you. Hog does not counter dva, dva counters hog because she can eat your hooks and ult with relative ease. Hog isnt better in heavy cc comps, hes good in comps that need cc. You dont need that much cc, also hog and mei have next to no synergy and arent meant to be played together at all since mei is basically only used in rush/brawl comps and hog isnt. Winston: Winston does not pair well with most tanks in the game. Hes only really meant to be played with dva or zarya but should absolutely not be played with ball or rein. Other tanks do ok with winston but have next to no synergy Winston is bad with rein, ok with orisa(not great bc no synergy) and not meant to be played with sigma as much. Also sigma is an offtank. Even when played with other offtanks. Dva: Dva absolutely does NOT have a similar playstyle to winston. As dva you should off angle and control lanes your maintank isnt on. + youre supposed to peel, winston does not peel at all. Dva ult really shouldnt be used to kill as much as you imply in this guids, you can get much more value by just using it to remech. Using dva bomb to get kills is a gamble most of the time and is really only useful in low ranks. When you bomb you maybe get a kill, when youre in mech you can definitely get value Sigma: All the sigma tips were fine but i think youre really missing out by not mentioning high ground control and off angling just like with zarya. Ball: Using your grapple on cooldown to constantly roll trough will straight up get you killed, its really predictable and theyll have ccs ready for a lot of your engages and you wont have shields ready most of the time. Its much better to engage with your team and/or to engage when they use their ccs beforehand. Ball requires patience. In the video it shows ball rolling trough from the front and slamming almost on cd, this will get you killed if the enemy team is paying any attention. Youre supposed to set up on high ground or behind them so they wont see you coming before you engage. Ball doesnt need a coordinated team to do well, hes an incredible soloQ hero because you can make space on your own. Ball isnt good with: winston and rein, he is good with sigma(who is still an offtank) double maintank is never really good. If you want to learn how to play any tank i recommend watching yeatle, A10 or forgivings educational unranked to GMs. I personally yhink a10 is the best educator out of the 3.

Something I feel you missed on Winston: Melee as you land, you'll also do additional damage and can really cause aggro to people, the jump pack land also does a small bit of knock back. In his ultimate, his jump pack cooldown is reduced and also resets when the ult begins and ends, meaning you can double jump in and out of ultimate. Other than that, great guide.
Shoot you’re right VR, I should have included the melee animation cancel when you land, that’s a huge tip. That being said, this was meant to be a quick guide, so I couldn’t include everything. Thanks for watching! 🥭

My favorite thing to do as a Rein is slowly turn a corner with my shield going "I AM YOUR SHIELD!!" and then having my entire team back me up. Makes me feel nice and warm inside
Nice tips! thank you :) as a ball main however i'd like to add that you might want to consider just rolling through the enemy team first with adaptive shields to pull abilities from them(either for your winston/doom to follow up on it) or my personal favorite...Rolling back again and THEN slam so you minimize getting slept etc. while you have no grapple or escape :)

Reinhardt:
Why stop at 2 swings? If theyre not pressuring you into shielding you can and should just keep swinging into their rein to apply pressure, farm ult and secure the kill. Theres (almost) no reason to shield after every 2 swings when youre not being pressured into playing defensively.
Reinhardt does not pair well with: Roadhog and Brigitte.
Orisa:
Putting her shield in the open vs near natural cover doesnt do much when it comes to it breaking. The main reason why you should put it near natural cover is so you have somewhere to fall back to when it breaks.
Orisa does not pair well with: Ana, orisa ana are generally not played together becauss ana really struggles in and against double shield(which is what youll often be playing when playing orisa)
Zarya:
The things mentioned were all correct but very lacking, although bubble usage is very important its far from the only thing you need to understand when it comes to zarya. If youre not off angling and controlling lanes/high ground youre not doing your job as zarya. Also tech like right clicking to manipulate enemy movement and right click + melee combos wouldve fit into this guide since we mostly covered micro anyway.
Roadhog:
It really doesnt matter which tank you play hog with since he just does his own thing.
Winston:
Winston does not pair well with most tanks in the game. Hes only really meant to be played with dva or zarya but should absolutely not be played with ball or rein. Other tanks do ok with winston but have next to no synergy
Winston is bad with rein, ok with orisa(not great bc no synergy) and not meant to be played with sigma as much. Also sigma is an offtank. Even when played with other offtanks.
Dva:
Dva absolutely does NOT have a similar playstyle to winston.
When you bomb you maybe get a kill, when youre in mech you can definitely get value
Sigma:
All the sigma tips were fine but i think youre really missing out by not mentioning high ground control and off angling just like with zarya.
Ball:
Using your grapple on cooldown to constantly roll trough will straight up get you killed, its really predictable and theyll have ccs ready for a lot of your engages and you wont have shields ready most of the time.
My man was so triggered he wrote a whole term paper 😂 I look forward to your video on the subject buddy 🥭
@@themangoslice im not triggered, i just think your guide is telling people how to play wrong and figured id explain why i have that opinion. people dont have to be angry to disagree with you and speak out.
I feel like plat/diamond players aren’t really in a position to make guides because thats basically average rank in overwatch.
@@emilnagl its below average bc its console, console plat is like silver/gold on pc
@@asonia1586 you def not angry but are sure as hell dedicated for typing an essay
Im sorry but did you call sig a main tank?
I think he can function as a main tank in lower levels where the game moves slower 🥭
@@themangoslice i mean he can, but i see him as primarily an off tank
I Dva main... not ashamed to admit it
You do you A Frame! 🥭
W guide
Bri-gee-tah?? Isn’t it pronounced like
“bri-jet”?
I thought it was bri-jit at first too, but if you listen to the game devs, content creators, even the OW animated shorts… they all say bri-gee-tah. The more you know! 🥭
Are u plat giving a guide????
12:10 🥲
I actually tend to be much better with Wrecking Ball than Reinhardt.
Play to your strengths Ethan! This guide is more of a starter point for people that don’t play tank often or want to learn more about tanks they don’t play as much! 🥭
Thanks, this helped :)
Glad I could help Big T!!! 🥭
@@themangoslice LOL
boulder sniping poor squishies is so funny, nothing makes me laugh like hitting a nasty kill from like >30m, only real reason I play sigma
now a bunch of brozes are gonna yolo on defense.
Did i just...learn more from a plat console player than my t500 pc coach?
Damn right you did 😂😂😂😂🥭
@@themangoslice theres a mango emoji? Im sorry?
Mango gunna teach you all kinds of things 🥭
Still bad at tank eventhough I play reinhardt the most. I just stick to qp and grinding levels and loot boxes then probably gonna prob quit. When your iq is only 85 you are limited.
how does a plat console player feel qualified to give tips oof
I am I sigma main all the way
Sigma is so satisfying to play sometimes! Hopefully he doesn’t get canceled when we get to the Covid sigma variant… 🥭
I a rilly good at sig but I am in bronze there is no communication I was like one win away then I lost 8 games in a round
“This video looks good” then I see he plat on PlayStation...
higher than your rank aka gold
@@chris._.7754 lol masters nice try bud.
Same kinda, but i feel that as a top500 console rein otp even the plats can teach us a few things on occasion, and while the tips arent advanced i imagine this would be super helpful back when i was starting out.
edit: SR is about 3600 but on nintendo switch thats t500 lol
It’s pronounced bridge it my dude :)
You’ve never heard the developers talk about her huh? That’s how it’s pronounced. Hell even torb and rein pronounce it that way lol 🥭
Ngl i’m not gonna listen to someone the same rank as me
stay bad
The music is so shit and distracting
A play teaching a diamond how to play the game. Makes sense
Weird flex, but okay
Tip number one: don't take tips from a gold border in plat
Tip Number 2: Make sure you remove your Maximilian Mus pfp before having an opinion
lame shit game
Actually it's nice...if you aren't bad yourself.
My only question is how did you get here then?
@@mubarak6215 was seaching shit games, and this came up
plat player giving advice lmao
at first i was thinking woah 20 mins he is gonna keep repeating himself, but no you stayed to the point and kept changing it up so everyone could learn something new, this kept me glued to my seat.
nice vid, keep up the good work.
Yooooo thank you Jeppe! I guess you pick up a few things after 5 years of OW! Glad you enjoyed it, I got a few other OW guides on my channel you might like to, check em out and let me know what you think! 🥭
@@themangoslice It's definitely a fantastic guide that covers way more than larger RUclips creators out there skip over, I feel like I've learned a fair bit, even as a plat - diamond tank main
Well demonstrated. I've been a Sigma main for 600+ hours and most of what you presented I learned the hard way. Wish more people understood these concepts.
I have hundreds of hours pumped into Comp, specifically for tank. And this video had given me so much great info I didn't really know or think about. Great work!
That’s what I do this for, glad I could help Anthony! 🥭
As a bronze level tank that started out this season at sub 600, thank you for this helpful info. I have worked my way up to around 1k to 1100 range and this should really help my play. This game comes with a steep learning curve and the info you provide is really helpful!
Man i've never found better guides than yours thx❤️
Yoooooo I appreciate that Ab! Comments like this are what inspires me to keep making videos. Glad you’re enjoying! 🥭
Thanks for working so hard on these videos it’s so nice that you are helping people with guides. Especially one that covers how to play tank in general. This helped a lot. Deserves a sub. ❤️
And I don’t put shield management in this and I watched ur gameplay u basically don’t know how to shield manage
I swear when u solo queue in comp every game people quit or there’s people who only play widow/ha so etc and are horrible and make it impossible to actually climb ranks
Leavers are the worst!!! 🥭
@@themangoslice Yh honestly it feels like every other game. It’s annoying as none of my friends play anymore and I came back recently but solo queue no one works together and there will be like 5 dps with no healer in defence
@@kianhardwick yeah that’s why I haven’t played competitive in super long. No one plays as a team
It’s crazy he made a tank guide for dps players forced to play tank lmao
Very underrated RUclipsr! I just found your video as I can’t hit plat with tank and you explained the role very well, I don’t think I play tank bad I just make a lot of mistakes. But great video keep up the great content :)
Ayyyy thanks Chaz! Keep practicing and try not to get discouraged - I believe in you! 🥭
I’m good at tank I find it boring only because I enjoy attempting to kill the entire enemy team so you can guess my favorite characters are bastion and genji
Love the blood in the water line. best way to describe the tank,, Sharks
Plat on console looks like silver on PC. This is really funny actually :D
Sigma's My Go Too Keep the Tank Loot Crates Coming lol
My favorite thing to do as a Rein is slowly turn a corner with my shield going "I AM YOUR SHIELD!!" and then having my entire team back me up. Makes me feel nice and warm inside
Don’t get me started on the rein voice line meta 😂🥭
Hammond is the only reason I still play this game
Nice tips! thank you :) as a ball main however i'd like to add that you might want to consider just rolling through the enemy team first with adaptive shields to pull abilities from them(either for your winston/doom to follow up on it) or my personal favorite...Rolling back again and THEN slam so you minimize getting slept etc. while you have no grapple or escape :)
6:35 mfw I carry games with D.Va, and Sigma but feed each game I play Rein. 🙃
He's so hard for me! I don't understand him!
Edit: just watched the video. really good one.
It's sad how many don't get the role of tanks.
I prefer off tanks myself since I love to save my main tank's back, and protect my support
Don’t be afraid to swing that hammer! Just don’t charge into the back line 😂
