I'm 49 and have just discovered King Crimson. I feel like a teenager again, waiting on my favourite group's next album, except, now they are already available for me to purchase!! Working my way through the sublime 40th Anniversary CDs.

This particular King Crimson album holds a special place in my heart. I purchased this the year it was released and have memorized all the lyrics. I am now sixty four, and remember how enchanted I was by these musicians, and still am. CRIMSO, will endure till the end of time..my time at least. I made a tapestry of this album cover, and gave it to my niece. I also made a relief cutting in linoleum of the 21st century schizoid man, in all the correct colors. I am a synthesist, and this music help shape my perspective on my craft, as a musician. Peace to you my friend. 🌖 Expanding Knowledge ∆

I'm just 18 and have just discovered this band. I first saw it on a Japanese cartoon (anime) where they named the characters from popular bands. To be honest I'm not that easily inclined to rock music but King Crimson has that charm that makes it too addictive to not be listened to.

I am 58 and first listened to King Crimson as a very young teenager. Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, ELP, Jethro Tull, Van der Graaf Generator, etc. It all started at around 10 years old because my friend's brother, who was a few year older than us, was actively buying prog albums and let us listen them when he was out. :)

    Now, in this faraway land
Strange, that the palms of my hands
    Should be damp with expectancy
Spring, and the air's turning mild
City lights, and the glimpse of a child
    Of the alleyway infantry
Friends, do they know what I mean
    Rain, and the gathering green
    Of an afternoon out-of-town
But Lord I had to go
My trail was laid too slow behind me
To face the call of fame
Or make a drunkard's name for me
    Though now this better life
    Has brought a different understanding
    And through these endless days
    Shall come a broader sympathy
And though I count the hours
    To be alone's no injury
My home, was a place near the sand
    Cliffs, and a military band
    Blew and air of normality
    ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
    ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
    ooh, ooh
    aah aah

As a Ukrainian, I had some very important business in Ukraine so I had to go back to it via the bus from Poland, through the boarder, and into Ukraine with a few hours of driving spare.
As I stayed in my apartment with my mother, I had the gift and curse of being able to walk around the streets of my yet destroyed childhood town, and I had this song playing sometimes. It completed it all. I am also an artist, a philosopher, a pianist and a polymath in progress, so as you might imagine, the experience melted in with my memories and the beautiful musicianship of Fripp into an unforgettable experience of anguish, pain, regret, reflection, recollection, reverie, catharsis, and many more strong emotions with each passing moment.
Those are my quick 5 cents on the comment. I agree very much so.

Such a beautiful, pastoral yet underlying dark and melancholic track. Mysterious intro sounding like a ship out at sea or a storm blowing through a village, with the music emerging from the ruins. The violin, acoustic guitar and mellotron melodies just melt my heart. Night sounds, then sunrise on the cliffs (1:15), E minor; the seas swell, groan and crash at their feet (2:42). Wistful, sweet homesickness for that place by the sand (D major/G mixolydian for the verses), but in the end, back to E minor (7:05) and waves of loss, and longing. The desolation of that unresolved F# in the violin! A devastating and consoling song for lonely hours.

I heard their first album as a senior in high school, 1970. A friend and I did our English project on the song “Epitaph”. I’ve been a fan ever since.

Haven't heard this in years. I gave all my lps (including this one) to my nieces and nephews. Reminds me of an ocean scene. Loons or whales but something marine definitely adding to that atmosphere. I have a new Yamaha EW-300. Hearing things like this makes me eager to learn to play the damn thing. ;-) Okay no it's not a damn thing. I like playing it better than my Strat. Yes....sorry. ;-)

As the music fades up, we see a distant object surrounded by thick mist. As the camera closes in we see it is a 19th century ship caught in the ice. Its crew members are either fishing through holes in the ice or making fires. The camera closes in on the helmsman at the wheel, as he begins to sing.

Acquired larks in 1980. One of a few records given to me, by a girlfriend who preferred True Colours. 1980 this was, remember. My favourite Crimson album, and my #5 on my top 1000 Songs of all Time.

Yo escuché en 2019 la canción que sigue en el disco :Easy money ,la verdad lloraba de emoción además de ser políticamente incorrecto ya q mi asiento había sido ocupado y me senté en la escala ,fui el único en ese recital no ocupando una butaca

Gosto muito da banda King Crimson, seu som nos moldes de Pink Floyd dos anos 70, estilo underground, o primeiro álbum deles, In The court of Crimson King, uma maravilha, Red e Starless sensacionais !

Still in possession of my vinyl copy on its release in '73, I used to get some irritating mistracking which led to distortion from John's vocals, during this song, especially the final verse, which apparently was due to the way i had my stylus and tonearm set up, at the time; I was only 17)! Now i listen to that same track, all these years later and pleased to hear it once again, distortion free.
