I am 58 and first listened to King Crimson as a very young teenager. Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, ELP, Jethro Tull, Van der Graaf Generator, etc. It all started at around 10 years old because my friend's brother, who was a few year older than us, was actively buying prog albums and let us listen them when he was out. :)
I’m a Metallica fan and my bass teacher recommended me this band. I never really liked slower rock but after listen to these guys my mindset has changed.

As a Ukrainian, I had some very important business in Ukraine so I had to go back to it via the bus from Poland, through the boarder, and into Ukraine with a few hours of driving spare. As I stayed in my apartment with my mother, I had the gift and curse of being able to walk around the streets of my yet destroyed childhood town, and I had this song playing sometimes. It completed it all. I am also an artist, a philosopher, a pianist and a polymath in progress, so as you might imagine, the experience melted in with my memories and the beautiful musicianship of Fripp into an unforgettable experience of anguish, pain, regret, reflection, recollection, reverie, catharsis, and many more strong emotions with each passing moment. Such a beautiful, pastoral yet underlying dark and melancholic track. Mysterious intro sounding like a ship out at sea or a storm blowing through a village, with the music emerging from the ruins. The violin, acoustic guitar and mellotron melodies just melt my heart. The soft snare sounds remind me of Michael Giles in I Talk To The Wind. My favorite Crim ballad ever. The aforementioned Wind and Islands title track come close, but not with the depth and soul of Exiles.
@@msanders777 oh yes I saw them do Islands a few times from 17 thru 21. Gained a major appreciation and love for the title track after seeing it live especially with Mel on the gorgeous woodwinds. Mel was truly the X Factor in the 2013-21 Crim. So amazing and soulful.
Night sounds, then sunrise on the cliffs (1:15), E minor; the seas swell, groan and crash at their feet (2:42). Wistful, sweet homesickness for that place by the sand (D major/G mixolydian for the verses), but in the end, back to E minor (7:05) and waves of loss, and longing. The desolation of that unresolved F# in the violin! A devastating and consoling song for lonely hours.
@@guitaristssuck8979 By G mixolydian I meant the mode starting on the 5th degree of a G major scale: D.-E-F#-G-A-B-C. Writing D Major/ before that was misleading. I was just stressing that D major is the tonic chord.
@@guitaristssuck8979 By G mixolydian I mean the mixolydian mode of G major (D-E-F#-G-A-B-C) not the mixolydian scale beginning on G.
