Nice and entertaining video, especially regarding the early centuries of the family's ascent to power. Yes, there are a few mistakes, but for the most part, you got it right. It is impossible in a video of this length to mention or explain every ruler or event spanning over six centuries, so neglecting to mention this or that is a really unfair criticism. The thing I believe is unique about this dynasty is its cosmopolitanism, particularly in opposition to nationalism after 1800. Also the relatively light handedness the Habsburg rulers exercised for the most part toward their subjects, as comparted to, say the Romanovs or Bourbons. They managed a non-continguous, multi-cultural, multi-lingual empire until the end and its quite curious and interesting to learn how they did it.
I think you underestimate Friedrich III a bit. but thank you for making a balanced video, that talks a bit about their family's history, policies of individual rulers, social movements, etc I realize that you absorb some 'relatively' new studies as well and not repeat centuries old propaganda like certain internet sources.
I think you meant that their gene pool became overly concentrated rather than diluted. The genetic variation in their gene pool became diluted but that’s confusing and redundant to say.
0:53 You're damn right they're a superior bunch, if they ever stand up on a pouring rain, their protruding lower jaws would collect water so they can have something to drink. Something a lowly peasant wouldn't have.

The inbreeding didn’t happen due to regard of the family name, it happened in order to try to make sure lands and titles didn’t pass out of the family.
The Spanish branch was the main branch of the family, the Hapsburgs back in Austria were part of the junior branch of the family and even then after the Austrian succession war the family lost a lot of power and prestige across Europe, even the name of the dynasty changed to the house of Habsburg-Lorraine mainly because all the descendants of the male bloodline were dead, while the only surviving members were females this also ended the rampant incest that was so characteristic of the family and the Habsburg jaw also slowly disappeared to the point that by the time of the concert of Europe it wasn't associated anymore with the family.
@@evahausberger6173 nope the Habsburg were originally from a county in what would eventually become Switzerland, they gain control of Austria through marriage, then after Charles I of Spain or Charles V of the Holy Roman empire (whatever you want to call him) move to Spain the main branch of the family was the Spanish one, if you don't believe me you can just Google it, the Habsburgs site of power was the Iberian peninsula and the money that came from the new world colonies, Austria and the other territories that the family held like Burgundy and the Netherlands were a liability and actually were a sinkhole of spending money and resources just to keep them afloat
@@INBCPC1994 Charles V did not move at spain , he was born in Gent. He was the grandson from Maximilian the first. Charles brother Ferdinand ruled the Austrian Hereditary Lands.Trough his marriage with Anna Jagello , Hungary and Böhmen came under Ferdinands possession. They had possession till romania. Sadly , Maria Theresia lost Schlesien but she captured parts of romania. Even parts of Italia and Croatia belonged to Austria.Till 1918 was Austria- Hungary ruled by an emperor, while in Spain the Habsburg reign has ended already 500 years before.
@Eva Hausberger Charles V did move to Spain--he died in Spain as King of Spain and Holy Roman Emperor simultaneously. It is true the Austrian Habsburg line survived much longer through the Austro-Hungarian empire. However, as the video notes, it was under Charles V that the Holy Roman Empire was at its largest around the world when the viceroyalties in the Americas were established. In fact it was the silver from these territories that funded much of Charles's endeavors in Europe (and later used to create the first truly global reserve currency--piece of eight). Phillip II continued the Habsburg branch in Spain under a still very large Spanish empire. The HRE title eventually passing on to other Habsburgs. It's notable that as the Spanish Habsburgs declined, the Austrian Habsburgs consolidated more marriages with other German states and eventually France (Marie Antoinette). From then on it would be another 100 years before the dynasty finally diminished in Austria as well.
I'd like a more thorough break down on how they got started - yes, they had a lot of inbreeding, but what actually made them great before all that, and during that?
During the Hun Roman war Attila divide Europe to 3 big religion district. One church start to operate in Latin. That was call Western Patriraca, one was call Eastern Patriarca / Greek and the Hungarian Katholic Church chairman was the actual king, who was an apostolic person. Not apostolic chair, like the Roman pope. That crown was like a kalifa for the Muslim word. The Holly Roman Empire assembly invite one duke from the Pannonian group, because they speak German also. Austria was found I. Stefan, in Hungary, not in Holly Roman Empire. He settled down the Austrians in Hungary. From 1500 they thraited the western assembly, to use the Hun army against them, and back, they made civil war in every 25 years in Hungary. Approx 400 years. This is the story of Habsburg. The puzzles of the History not fit together because the Habsburg secret service messing up many many question. They came out a brand new picture of History 150 years ago. While this video is littered with mistakes, the narrator says Joana was the daughter of the king of Aragon. Which is true. She was the daughter of Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon. They ruled Spain jointly.
Somethings very odd. For control spanning centuries and an empire this vast, I never heard the Hapsburg name until just a few years ago and I'm in my 50's. It's almost like the writers of the history books wanted this kept quiet. Odd, very odd... Food for thought...
Nah bruh, I'm 26 and I've known about the Habsburgs since I was like 12. And I was born in South America. If you read about European history and you haven' heard the Habsburg name or their cadet branch Habsburg-Lorraine, you haven't been paying attention AT ALL... or you've been living under an effing rock...
I agree. Ever since their defeat in WW1, the Habsburgs have been swept aside by history, ignored and often portrayed as villains (especially in Bohemia, where I’m from). Which is sad, as they’re such a huge part of European history
Not what i experienced. I am from austria and i have been confronted with the Habsburgs pretty much my whole life. For example the family name is written on my grandma's piano.

This is one of the most poorly written history videos I have encountered. “Dynasty” is a real word, not an opinion, and Spain and the Ottomans and every other empire or kingdom in history had a dynasty or several at one point or another.
I think people are just shaped by their circumstances. These people where born into a dinasty and where forced to fight for their survival and their territories, just for the sake of keeping what they had. It wasn't the 21st Century you know, you had to actually fight and die for what was 'yours'...
From my prospective all the inbreeding, murderous ancestors, and diabolical intrigue has shown all the European Kings and Queens were terrible people. But they exist today these terrible people running the financial empire that enslaves much of humanity.

7:50 is intriguing to me. Picturing All Might got Plus Ultra from the Hapsburg’s😭
Why is there a Danish picture?

The inbreeding didn’t happen due to regard of the family name, it happened in order to try to make sure lands and titles didn’t pass out of the family.
the "fall" of the Hapsburgs was in 1918, with the end of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In 1700 was the Spanish branch which ends....so?
The Spanish branch was the main branch of the family, the Hapsburgs back in Austria were part of the junior branch of the family and even then after the Austrian succession war the family lost a lot of power and prestige across Europe, even the name of the dynasty changed to the house of Habsburg-Lorraine mainly because all the descendants of the male bloodline were dead, while the only surviving members were females this also ended the rampant incest that was so characteristic of the family and the Habsburg jaw also slowly disappeared to the point that by the time of the concert of Europe it wasn't associated anymore with the family.
@@INBCPC1994 the main branche were the Austria Habsburg not the Spanish Habsburg. They came out of the Austrian Habsburg.
Even Herodot could shocking you. We changed the bronze age pictures. The future generations will be not so proud for us, because we still keeping that lies. For example, the Hungarian wikipedia warning you, dont say German Roman Empire in an international conference, because this picture was created only for Hungarians. Noone knows what the hell you talking about if you say that.

😂😂
Lol
I was always confused by whether it was Hapsburg or Habsburg. I didn't know til college that they are the same family.
As far as I understand, the inbreeding was primarily a Spanish Habsburg thing. The Austrian/Bohemian/Hungarian branch didn't engage in this as much
Love these Habsburg rulers:

Are there habsburg descendants still living in Austria?
At 9:25 is the wrong picture. This is Ferdinand I of Austria (1793-1875) and not Ferdinand I the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire of German nation (1503 - 1564) see picture at 8:27 for the correct Ferdinand 😉 The Habsburgs never ruled Sweden and there was not a Habsburg on the Polish thrown....
right., but the king of Poland married Elizabeth of Austria, a Hapsburg...:)
there was a lot of marrying around going on .. but that does not mean that they ascended the thrown of Poland 😉
This guy has so many errors I can’t take his video serious back to lindsay holiday I go 😂😩
0:15 did they just showed us a picture of Julius Caesar or am I wrong?
What a dizzying list of rulers!
...aint that the truth...i collect coins of them and have of many years and i still lack many rulers i got them as far back as Charles l/V and that was as bunch.
And that's only a small part!
Nearly all of European royals became related by the 1700s. Today they are all related multiple times over.
Tarantino looks like a Habsburg prince from the Middle Ages lol

And England tried to get their hands on Spain
@@r32guy85 All things come back around.
@Domingo Aguirre Yup, he definitely was. But his family-the Habsburgs-Did not control England. The country was still under the Tudors.
@Domingo Aguirre when he was king of England?🤔
@Domingo Aguirre he wasnt king. He just married mary Tudor but was not king by himself. Mary 1. Tudor was Queen of england. He even didnt live in England.
So Charles the V is All Might
Is 9:11 a joke? Francis allowing the Ottomans into Europe? At the time the Ottomans already had the half of Europe. Francis came into power because of the political and military help he received from the Turks.
They conquered and ruled all skirts - without and within. Must have been hard for the little Charles to have all those in-dating.
Joana the mad of castile not of aragon.
While this video is littered with mistakes, the narrator says Joana was the daughter of the king of Aragon. Which is true. She was the daughter of Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon. They ruled Spain jointly.
Should hamburgers be called habsburgers? At least Austria, Breaded Veal cutlet is Wiener Schnitzel in Austria.

Just need to study European history
Not what i experienced. I am from austria and i have been confronted with the Habsburgs pretty much my whole life. For example the family name is written on my grandma's piano.
?????
Did these people just make up their last names??
My ex wife had Hapsburg Jaw
😂😂
I don't think it's fair to say they ruled as far as England as this wasn't the case.

This video failed my one minute rule, inside the first minute it said two stupid things 1) “the Habsburgs unlike other empires like Ottomans were not just an empire but a dynasty”, idiots the Ottomans were a dynasty, it’s literally in the name, so were the Romanovs and tens of other dynasties around their time, 2) they failed the “things every single stupid person will say” test which is in this case the Habsburg jaw, you can tell how stupid a “historian” is by how soon they say this and how serious they are about it, these guys did both inside one minute.

I wonder if today’s Habsburgs still have the infamous “Chin.” 😂
Way too many errors. Unsubscribed.
This is one of the most poorly written history videos I have encountered. “Dynasty” is a real word, not an opinion, and Spain and the Ottomans and every other empire or kingdom in history had a dynasty or several at one point or another.

Terrible people.
I think people are just shaped by their circumstances. These people where born into a dinasty and where forced to fight for their survival and their territories, just for the sake of keeping what they had. It wasn't the 21st Century you know, you had to actually fight and die for what was 'yours'...
Money ain't got any owners. Only spenders.
From my prospective all the inbreeding, murderous ancestors, and diabolical intrigue has shown all the European Kings and Queens were terrible people. But they exist today these terrible people running the financial empire that enslaves much of humanity.
