The Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway (DN&SR) was a cross-country railway running north-south between Didcot, Newbury and Winchester. Its promoters intended an independent route to Southampton and envisaged heavy traffic from the Midlands and North of England to the port, but they ran out of funds to complete the line to Southampton. The intended heavy through traffic never materialised, and the line was dependent on larger railways-the Great Western Railway and the London and South Western Railway-for support, which was not freely given. The line opened in two stages, in 1882 and 1885.
The Company was absorbed by the Great Western Railway in 1923 following the Railways Act 1921. It became strategically important during World War II when huge volumes of munitions and troops were transported to South Coast ports, particularly in the preparations for the Normandy landings, and the Didcot to Newbury section was doubled, while the southern section was upgraded with extended passing loops.
The line never carried heavy passenger volumes and declining traffic led to its closure in stages from 1960 to 1964.

Hello Damien. I try. Not the best of days, a bit more windy than expected. Not do the drone very high :( a nice walk though. 2 weeks later or so by there on the bike on a proper ride. The whole platform was a surprise.

Done the Wiltshire to Bucks big hill. forgot both names!, 86 mile ridgeway off road bike ride, people do (someone at work , Rutherford at the time on night sponsored walk). 86 miles. Keen. all day. I did over 2 shifts, Saturdays with 2 weeks between, Dad do the car, Go home. come back to where I pegged out Wallingford way. Carry on 2 weeks later, Ridgeway is nice.

Concrete fencing def due to the WWII doubling which iirc was carried out by US Army Engineers same as the farm road you walked down built same as the air bases they built. Churn Halt was station built for the wartime WWI training base.

OK, a bit random but looked it up. The nice Roman Catholic school. Guess that. good drone photo on their web site. Looks a nice school. I see our 4th and 5th year. year 10 and 11 in newer way form tutor. teacher, lives around the corner, he remembers us lot and that was 1987-89. Some of my lot our dead, Got a nice bench downtown for 1 of the women, She was a councillor so got a bench for that, they will be getting on the older lot. Was 40 years ago at the secondary school. Everyone leaves in the end, retire o as you said, off to another job. I had some I liked. School days, happy days.
