pressing tab opens the party inventory, when you want to use an item (even in combat) i recommend always pressing tab and searching for it using the search bar on the top left. every party member has access to each others inventories for free, so if party member C has an item you want to use as party member A, you can just press tab during A's turn in combat, search for the item from the search bar, and use it from C's inventory. No actions required, distance also does not matter.
In the settings, turn off Karmic dice. They screw up dice rolls more often than it helps. Gives you more true experience without a thumb on the scales behind the scenes in combat.
It's very valuable that you focus on one game at a time. A lot of youtubers play 3-4 masterpieces at once to have more SEO exposure and widen their audience faster. Your experience feels more genuine, it's not not just for reaction clicks.
Oh wow, this gonna be good. Really excited to see you play this. Um, embrace failure. Failure isn't always bad. That's the best tip I can give. Have fun!
Ikr one of the most memorable D&D moments I've had was in Tomb of Annihilation when my brother's 8th level druid managed to get himself killed by a measly swarm of spiders. We all still laugh about it to this day.
@emmasilver2332 one of my favorite moments as a player happened in a Shadowrun session where my character got heroism. (Failed a deception check) and was brought to an interrogation room. He was tied to a chair, and I told the GM I wanted to use my characters martial arts skill to kick the guard and backflip in the chair to break out of it. He set the target number at 22, which meant rolling a six, then rolling another six, and yet another six, followed by a 4, all from just 1 die roll, and I got it! But that amazing moment of escape would never have happened if he hadn't failed a roll earlier causing him to get captured in the 1st place. Sometimes, what seems like a disastrous die roll can lead to a moment of incredible heriosm.
helpful tips without spoilers as requested: 1- getting to the targeted baddie may require jumping, dashing, or climbing, however these will take up one of your actions so try to start out with spells and ranged weapon attacks first and let the baddies come to you. 2-ALWAYS try to have the high ground. High ground gives you advantage on attacks and being on low ground causes penalty to attack. even stacking crates and barrels to stand on will give you the "high" ground. 3- Pick up bags, backpacks, pouches, and boxes for inventory management. excess baggage can be sold for 1 gold each. 4- everything that can be picked up is worth at least 1 gold coin (even rotten fruit), so pick it up and sell it for profit. 5- right click on enemies and items to "examine" them. Sometimes you will see weaknesses/vulnerabilities as well as resistances.
I've never been so invested in another persons character creation in my life. I dunno how you made that interesting but you really did! Also yeah catching up on this series is gonna take me a bit lol
You're doing so much better than me picking up the mechanics and paying attention, well done🙌 I'm very excited to see you fall in love with this spectacular game!!
YESSS!!! I've been excited for you to play this. Prepare yourself Java, this game is about to absolutely take over your life for at least the next month. I can't wait to see the adventure you go on.
this makes me so happy to read! I've been super nervous to upload this to YT because I know it's going to be a long playthrough and hoping you all will be excited for it. It's been so chaotic already I'm so excited to see where it goes
A good piece of advice for squeezing as much companion interactions as you can that many people don't know of: In many areas (like the druid grove when you enter it for the first time) and after some specific events (whenever someone new joins the party, for example), each companion will comment on the situation instead of their opening line when you talk to them (even though they have no "!" above their heads). So it's worth checking in with your team when you're in a new area or something interesting happens if you want to get as much dialogue with them as you can. It's also worth resting fairly often for the same reason (otherwise you can miss extra interactions and cutscenes)
A nice surprise. Hope you enjoy it. This game took up too much of my time with 2 different playthroughs. I haven't touched the game in a month so I could focus on priorities but once things are taken care of I'm resuming my third playthrough.
Well done Java, you're learning the game in a very thoughtful way. I'm about 500 hours in, finished three games and have several more on the go. What amazes me the most is that every time it's completely different. Race, class, and even the minor interactions can change so much of the game content. One small (non-spoiler) tip: Cast Guiding Bolt with Shadowheart instead of Fire Bolt. The former takes a wisdom check, and the latter dexterity. I'm off to see if you've uploaded more, this was so much fun 😊
Thank you so much and massive welcome in! I'm uploading these parts daily and they're all pretty long 😂 my live stream right now is about 1-2 episodes ahead of what's on RUclips
omg we went through the same journey. It also didn't catch my attention initially because I wasn't a fan of the turn-based combat and never played DnD before, but I saw so much content about the game and everything around its community that I decided to give it a shot and I'm currently playing it and having the best time.
To be honest, you have to be a seasoned D&D player to notice that Fire Bolt is not a cleric spell for her, but a spell she got trough her race as High Half-Elf. So her normal spellcasting ability modifier as a cleric, the Wisdom, doesnt count here - but the Intelligence or dex modifier (not sure what it was..) So thats why you shouldnt use it, and instead one of your cleric cantrips, because thats where you good at. But for the most players this will be just another spell that she mysteriously misses so often ;)
3 games I would highly recommend to you. They are all great and heavily story-driven. 1. SOMA = Wonderful horror game about existential crisis. It has a safe mode so that creatures can't harm you if you like that. One of the best stories and endings in gaming. 2. What Remains of Edith Finch = Truly beautiful and emotion filled 3 hour story game. 3. Observation = Space thriller about finding out what happened to a crew on a space ship. About 5 hours long. These are all worth streaming imo. You would definitely like them.

For Gale, evocation is easiest for people new to dnd to play because of the sculpt spell ability. So many of the good combat spells have an area of effect that will hurt your allies as well as your enemies, so this is a safety valve for new players. But conjuration can be really good too.
Save often , although latest patch increased the auto-save points , u ll get into surprise circumstances quite often . and Long Rest as often as u can, it progresses the narative .
I once watched a blooper of the big scene in which the main character Tav gets hit in the head and falls off the Nautiloid. The game glitched and the character model T-posed on his way out and it was so funny! 😂
Hope you enjoy the game. I have played all of the older ones, need to get this for the ps5. or a new computer which I really need to get anyway. as for tips.... some of which you may have figured out already, watch your encumbrance and distribute the weight among your party members. Be sure to check new items, armor and weapons when you pick them up to see if it's and improvement or someone in the part can use it. in combat, concentrate on one enemy to kill it faster, if you can't kill the bigger ones quickly, then take out several smaller ones to limit the number of enemy attacks.
Hope you're enjoying the game, I'm having a blast on my own playthrough. Wish you could create your own squad like U can in Solasta though. Also wish I had a crew of 06, like in the older BG games. Apart from those 2 nitpicks, Larian Studios hasn't let me down yet.
The best early classes in the game are level 1-3 War Priest, 3-6 Gloomstalker, 6-8 Fighter after 9 the game really opens up into multiclassing I suggest one character going sword Bard for the talking to NPCs and picking locks and disarming traps also the bard should be multiclassing into fighter for ability surge and one other character should be doing Sorcerer level 6 or 10 multiclassing into Tempest Priest to level 2 or 6 so they can double haste and cast powerful lightning magic and being a healer in a pinch.
Difficulty in a nutshell: On a first play through, you might find balanced to be challenging in the early game. But, as you learn the systems and work out how different abilities interact, it might start feeling too easy. Explorer is almost always too easy unless you make a lot of mistakes or have cursed dice. Tactician isn’t too much harder than balanced, but enemies might be better about focusing down the most vulnerable members of your party.
First time I watch your channel and you look soooo much alike a character in the game XD A receptionist close to the end of the game so can't say who xD
Rolls are not different between the various settings. Enemy HP and their number and the dmg they deal will vary. For dice, you pick karmic dice on or off. Karmic dice seem to produce more fail streaks.
A tip for wizards non d and d players probably dont realize. They can learn spells from scrolls so if you want you can learn the spells from scrolls on your wizards.
Heh I will catch up on this, just got a current platform a few days ago, it came with spider man 2 and then I instantly got Baldurs Gate 3, my first time as well, have watched a lot of DnD but never played anything myself, heh I think I spent almost 2 hours in character creation
Your graphics look so good is that all on ultra? which AA do you use? TAA, DLAA, or FSR options? :) p.s. episode 1 was awesome. I loved your Elden Ring playthrough but this game is right up my alley and I cant wait to binge watch you playing this :)
@@itsjavachip just the fact that the game focuses around Mind Flayers in general is uniquely horrifying for something in DnD because they (and Devourers) can force a lot of intelligence saving throws that can quickly incapacitate characters with low INT (i.e. your wonderful character) and then just kill them outright. Thus they have persistently traumatized a lot of DnD players by killing their whole party in one fight (known as a Total Party/Team Kill or TPK/TTK).
What tips did you find most useful when you first started?

after critically missing five times in a row you'll be like, maybe i could use some advantage after all😂😂
I'm DEFINITELY feeling this
Cool video
Great now I have to create another character for the next 3 hours 😂
My favorite part of any game is always character creation
And it's SO GOOD in this game
I mean on your character creation, don’t think your character is all that crazy, I mean in the movie their Druid is also a tiefling
this was back when java was a baby bg3 player!
Just a baaaaaby!
Java fighting intellect devourers triggered my DnD brain and I got so nervous they were going to devour intellect and then body thief her lol
I'm so thrilled I don't even know enough to be scared of this 😂
@@itsjavachip just the fact that the game focuses around Mind Flayers in general is uniquely horrifying for something in DnD because they (and Devourers) can force a lot of intelligence saving throws that can quickly incapacitate characters with low INT (i.e. your wonderful character) and then just kill them outright. Thus they have persistently traumatized a lot of DnD players by killing their whole party in one fight (known as a Total Party/Team Kill or TPK/TTK).
Gonna go ahead and guess she went with tiefling
