Not only is the story intriguing, the two guys doing the interview were outstanding. The cop and his wife provided a detailed, relevant and expanded answer to each question. Probably the best interview I've ever seen.
Ryan came to my rescue the first week he was back in duty after this incident he's talking about. I held a burglar at gunpoint for 15 minutes at 3am that was continually trying to get a weapon out of his vehicle. Because the county is huge and I'm at the very south end but I tell you what from my vantage point i could see TCSO CHP AND CPD flying toward my location. Ryan went over and above to get DNA from the scumbag and gave the DA a very good case and sent the guy to prison. The same guy stole over 20k of my things out of my shop the night before that i never recovered because the guy took it all out of the county. I didn't have insurance but I've never been so impressed with the effort and diligence Ryan put into my case. He's the kind of guy that all police officers should strive to be like. Thank you Ryan.

My son and daughter in-law. I felt like I was in some crazy movie. Starting from the phone call I received when he was in the ambulance. Me heading to the hospital that was only a few miles from my home then in Chico. The hospital was shut down no one was allowed in. Security and officers escorted me too Ryan and Hayley. I went in and of course I was crying. Ryan grabbed my hand and he said Mom I'm alive. I smiled and said yes you are. His hands were sticky from blood. He was covered in cuts up and down his arms. From the Shrapnel is what I was told. I don't remember the doctor's name either that Ryan talks about in the podcast but I do remember looking down and he had cowboy boots on. I sat with Ryan daily listening to the story unfold again and again. I still have not been back to that store or parking lot. To this day when I see a car with dark tinted windows my heart speeds up. I'm so Thankful they both are doing good, I wish Ryan had no more migraines and for a while I kept wanting him to teach at a academy. I have said many prayers 🙏 nightly to watch over him protect him. I have always asked for God to give him skills, wisdom, instincts beyond normal. My Pray for Booker was the same. I'm so Thankful that he always has trained before he was old enough for the academy he was the SWAT Dummy for Chico Police department. That's what I called him anyways he would come home and tell me stories about the scenarios they played that day and sometimes he would get the drop on the SWAT guys training and he was so excited when he nailed one of them. He had a few bruises throughout his body even though he wore protective gear from the rubber bullets or whatever they used to get to him with. He has wanted to be an officer since he was I believe in kindergarten. I am beyond proud of both him and Hayley for everything they do everyday. I have met another or talk to another officer I to I've always said I believe it's the training and to never stopped training just keep training as long as it's available and like Ryan and Hayley both said it is not available go out and find it. Wow - some story!! The one thing about being a "big city" cop (NYPD), is KNOWING that when the shit hits, massive backup is literally just a minute or two away, even taxi cabs with plainclothes drivers will be among the calvary. We called it a "10-13" officer needs assistance (13 being an "unlucky" number), and the RMP's (radio motor patrol - police cars) would be dispatched as Code 3 , lights and sirens. As a retired fire chief I have the world of respect for police officers as well as 911 communicators (dispatchers). Communicators are the first line of defense, the table setters if you will. They can make or break an incident. They don’t typically get paid anywhere near enough given their responsibilities. Years back I was very nearly killed on a medical emergency and was barely able to get my radio out while fighting with the guy who was armed with a very large knife and was doing his best to stab me in the chest. All I could transmit, without identifying myself was the police radio signal for “armed and dangerous. The communicator heard me, recognized my voice, recognized that I was in serious trouble and got me ALL of the help I needed. The bad guy was, after trial, sent to a psychiatric detention center and eventually died there.
WoW, Didn't know it was like this. I remember him being at my place in Rancho Tehama once to help me with a drugged out person that showed up at my place.
I listened to this one while I was at work, and came back to watch after my shift. This was a great episode! Thanks, from a guy in school for CJ to become an officer!
Talking about training to improve your own skills doesn't just improve your chances of staying alive in these situations but also your partners and those around you. Had he not done as much training and maybe froze or not returned fire, then with less training, they could have both been killed. I have the upmost respect for all officers and what yall do and have been debating applying to the PD in my area to serve with these brave individuals.
God bless the Three of you all. Coming from a person that has plenty of law enforcement people. Ranging from FBI to Road Patrol even Correctional Officers. For the record I'm an extremely animal DOG LOVER.
Was backup requested before the search was conducted? If not, why not? If backup was requested, what was the hurry to search the car prior to their arrival?
It was not. Not sure if you watched the podcast, but I explained why I didn’t. Granted my reason didn’t justify me doing a search solo. But that’s just kinda how we did things where I worked. Backup was not always available and for a proactive cop you kinda get into a hurry and just learn how to operate solo. Once again I don’t recommend that and it’s not how I do it now. Lesson learned
@@rfrank02855 I must have missed that. Thank you for taking the time and responding. Thank God you are still here with us. I just retired after 33 years on LASD. Looking back, I definitely dodged a couple of encounters and thought to myself, "damn, you are lucky that didn't go sideways."
Shit happened to me. Took a new dispatcher on a ride along, ended up getting into my first OIS in 20 years of LE with a suicide by cop subject. I was also leaving a week later to go to K9 training. My department had 5 street deputies for 3,500 sq miles.
Hey there thanks for the comment. Booker was part of our family and spent the remainder of his days with me, Hayley, and our kiddos during his retirement. he just recently passed away but will always be remembered as a total stud! We all miss him very much.

Glad they made it through that. At 46:53 I think you hit the nail on the head- a lot of police are afraid to train because they are afraid to "look bad" or " be shown up" in front of others, especially non police. Who do you think trains more and way harder: everyday people at a BJJ gym or police doing DT training days? Who trains more and better with their dogs, police doing the one day a week near by department training (which is typically run away bites only) or non police working their dogs in tracking, protection or scent work? Same thing at the range. Police should stop being afraid to get on the mat with others or work their dog at local club etc.
Im glad that they both are healthy and back to work I my self couldn't do there work im to old school shot and ask questions later, but anyway you all be safe my friends.
Wow! It sounds like God really worked through a bunch of little miracles to not only save and protect you two, but also possibly prevent a mass shooting! Amazing. Great job and God bless ❤
If a medical team is asking you to leave, please just respect that and go. There’s very limited space in the back of an ambulance and it’s best to keep all non-essential people out of the room. These situations are already chaotic enough without family members taking pictures and taking up valuable space.
Officer Frank talks about the dude getting the drop on him, but he came back in a position of power and made the dude run. The dude probably thought he had the officer down, until he was taking shots himself, then he ran.
I think you know. Majority were arresting over mask for christ sake.....I don't think a podcast is needed. Just stay prepared. We the people wont back down. And LE, well hopefully they're smart enough to not follow government orders that are blatantly unconstitutional. Constitution trumps Law "suggestions" all day!
@@shotsfiredpodcast50 I wouldn’t say it’s political when a law enforcement agency is over stepping their boundaries. And to hear what Leo’s think about it. That’s all
A little late to the game on this video, but it just popped up on my recommended after watching a dashcam video of a pursuit. Not sure if the officer in the video or the channel themselves will even answer this, but I'll ask anyway. You see a person from a distance removing their plate. Why immediately jump to "oh, that's suspicious."? Im genuinely curious because from the mind of a car guy who has always enjoyed the LEO line of work i sort of understand it but at the same time I'd also be thinking that the person is modifying it with a plate holder or taking it off because they have a legal customized plate that they are switching the boring basic one out for.
Noone actually owns their plates, they all are supposed to be returned to the dmv, or ministry of transportation. It's kinda like currency, it all is government property, we can possess it for infinite amount of time, but never actually own it.
Sorry for dumb question, what are these ride-alongs I keep hearing that cops have? Just relatives taken for a ride? I had no idea cops can have random people just ride along until recently.
RIP to Booker. I lost two dogs to old age last summer. Booker ran without hesitation towards a vehicle firing multiple rounds to protect his partner. He also chased the assailant down a highway. What an amazing companion.
I’m still a serving Senior Sergeant in my States Sheriff’s Office and have been in for 23 years. I have always been a pretty patient guy with your normal run of the mill dickheads which we deal with, however the rise of the sovereign citizen has me almost at the end of my patience. The absolute bullshit they carry on with is ridiculous. They’re now the ones who are dealing with someone unpredictable, the next one maybe the one who gets the beating of their life…
1:04:24 I hope that officer will read these comments because I think black salve(legit stuff from South America, if you can get your hands on it) might help pull the bullet pieces that are just beneath the skin to the surface because of it's powerful "drawing" action. People have pulled out entire tumors and skin cancers with this stuff for many decades. If you look up some stories of people using it, they can be pretty graphic but show the power of black salve (I believe the main ingredient is called blood root or red root?)
And yes, FDA will warn you against it because it hurts the allopathic medicine profits. 🙄 But I've heard of enough stories to see how powerful and natural it is(there are fakes out there too)
you ever here that auditor brian from here's the deal? he makes fun of the ya hoo cops voices as they talk their shit.. this guys voice fits that perfect!! think about it for a second... haha.. O.M.G. now i feel brians pain..

Good job officers! Stay safe and kept the streets clean!
Thanks brotha 👊🏼
Thank you!
All I have to say is “DAMN!!”
I’m glad the good guys were ok in the end!!! Officer has a hell of a great lady in his life and to stay calm and be an asset to the situation! Now after the fact I gotta say I can’t even imagine seeing your dog running up the highway after the perp🤣🤣!!! Puts me in mind of Lethal weapon 2 where Riggs was running up the highway after his perp! Brave as hell to all involved!!! Thank you for being so proactive!! Thank you for your service!!!
Thanks for watching and supporting us Matt. Glad you enjoyed it. Hell of a story!
thank you brotha
I went to line school in oroville and that damn county is wild man. You guys got a good back up response from Cali rangers and CHP. I worked in a super rural area in Nevada as a Leo, I know what that’s like 780 square miles
Thanks for watching and dropping a comment Travis. Much appreciated! 👊🏼🇺🇸
Very cool you guys respond. Much appreciated, stay safe to you guys and god speed. I still have family in your neck of the woods and in the bay areas doing it. 🔵🔵🔵⚫️🔵🔵🔵
@@TMarotti3366 of course. We appreciate everyone’s support! 🇺🇸
thanks for the comment, busy place to work forsure!
@@rfrank02855 glad you’re alive to tell your story. I remember vividly 3 times off of orodam rd seeing CHP, rangers pd and obviously county running code past my shithole trailer and getting the itch to go back into it while I was in line school. Shit even climbing those 50ft poles I’d see the heli’s take off out the airport and I worked on them out of Nevada before I left and getting that weird feeling of “ fuck I miss that” ha. You’re a tough son a of a bitch though and your now wife is too. God speed brother
Thank you for sharing your story, i learned a lot. Most importantly how you roll after being out of the fire.
Awesome! Thanks for watching man
2 pm to 2 am is the worst hours I’ve ever heard. That’s miserable and levee you with literally no life away from work. How shitty
This was close to my backyard. I remember this happening!
Thank you for watching
Thank you Haley and Thank you Andrew.
God Blessed you both 🙏 Have a long Happy life together ❤️
Thank you
Great video. Thank you.
Thank you 🙏
Ryan, you're an animal. Great work!
Wow. Great episode. Also noticed he said foot bail not leg bail.
He’s learning. We’ll get him trained up 😂. Good catch.
Did I miss something? Lol 😂 It’s footbail right?
3 of our own here in Tehama County Sheriff Office!
Shout out! 👊🏼. Stay safe up there!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks for watching Michelle! Tehama will always be my home
How is Booker these days?
Booker actually passed away recently. We miss him immensely, but he lived a great life.
@@rfrank02855 is there bodycam footage of the incident you had?
WoW, Didn't know it was like this. I remember him being at my place in Rancho Tehama once to help me with a drugged out person that showed up at my place.
Thank you for watching!
I listened to this one while I was at work, and came back to watch after my shift. This was a great episode! Thanks, from a guy in school for CJ to become an officer!
Glad you liked it Bro!
@@rfrank02855 absolutely! Thanks for sharing
Thanks brotha. Glad you liked it. Good luck in the academy. We got some stuff rolling out soon you might be interested. Keep on the look out 👀
@@shotsfiredpodcast50 thanks! Will do fellas 👍
Absolutely man
Talking about training to improve your own skills doesn't just improve your chances of staying alive in these situations but also your partners and those around you. Had he not done as much training and maybe froze or not returned fire, then with less training, they could have both been killed. I have the upmost respect for all officers and what yall do and have been debating applying to the PD in my area to serve with these brave individuals.
Scary, we never search a car without a second unit on scene.
Yeah good call man lol lesson learned
Amazing story. Terrifying
thank you Jeff, glad you enjoyed our story1
👊🏼🇺🇸
I’m curious why he left his former agency and if it had anything to do with this incident? Thanks.
It’s not un-common to lateral to other agencies. Pay.. benefits .. work style ect .. he has a good relationship with his prior agency.
There were a few reasons. To hard to type out though lol....Next podcast!
OMG that was so funny Date night on patrol love it. and also subbed and liked this video.
God bless the Three of you all. Coming from a person that has plenty of law enforcement people. Ranging from FBI to Road Patrol even Correctional Officers. For the record I'm an extremely animal DOG LOVER.
Any advice for a correctional officer
Straight to the point unlike those antihero podcast twerps! (Kidding I like you both 😄)
Great job officer
Thank you
Did they release the dashcam
This is all amazing but the first thing that made me go 'wow' was Hayley's demeanor. She's tough.
Wonder if there is body cam footage
No video of the incident. Pre body worn camera
I curious to know if this happened so fast. But with it being in front of a store with bystanders around if anyone called 911?
Good shi* as always. Keep it up.
What county was this in? I lived in Northern California and I’m curious.
His vehicle shows Tehama County
Shit happened to me. Took a new dispatcher on a ride along, ended up getting into my first OIS in 20 years of LE with a suicide by cop subject. I was also leaving a week later to go to K9 training. My department had 5 street deputies for 3,500 sq miles.
That’s crazy! Always stay ready
What happened to Booker? Did he stay at TSO or did he get retired to be with Ryan and Haley?
GREAT podcast guys!!
Retired due to age after that incident Ryan told us. He just recently passed away unfortunately.
@@shotsfiredpodcast50 Oh no!! 😥
Hey there thanks for the comment. Booker was part of our family and spent the remainder of his days with me, Hayley, and our kiddos during his retirement. he just recently passed away but will always be remembered as a total stud! We all miss him very much.
@@rfrank02855 thanks for the reply. I'm very sorry you guys didn't get to spend more time together in his retirement years. You're both studs. Stay safe, brother.
Thank you
Glad they made it through that.
I think there could be a movie made about this couple, this incident!
What was the name of the criminal?
We’re not releasing that info.
👍 and subbed great channel
Officer Frank talks about the dude getting the drop on him, but he came back in a position of power and made the dude run. The dude probably thought he had the officer down, until he was taking shots himself, then he ran.
@54:00 reminds me of Omar Felix Cueva who shot & killed NM Trooper Darian Jarrott during a traffic stop.
Guardian angel
Would like to hear all your opinions on the ATF trying to strip our rights from us.
We don’t get into political stuff on our channel for certain reasons.
😆
@@shotsfiredpodcast50 I wouldn’t say it’s political when a law enforcement agency is over stepping their boundaries. And to hear what Leo’s think about it. That’s all
@@shammy313 they never wanna talk about it when you question them! It's ALWAYS "look, here's the deal" 😂😂😂 never trust them!
You had to gain fire superiority and you did good job damn near impossible when you're talking about a pistol versus an AK
👊🏼🇺🇸
Thank you! Always training
I understand your point, but at a Dollar General in the middle of the night?
Noone actually owns their plates, they all are supposed to be returned to the dmv, or ministry of transportation. It's kinda like currency, it all is government property, we can possess it for infinite amount of time, but never actually own it.
Glad that’s what you got out of that. 🧐
@@shotsfiredpodcast50😂🤣
Sorry for dumb question, what are these ride-alongs I keep hearing that cops have? Just relatives taken for a ride? I had no idea cops can have random people just ride along until recently.
Would love to see you guys Incorporate “time stamps “ into the podcast videos so you can skip to each topic covered
We were doing that and stopped. Can start adding it again.
Up to you, just friendly suggestion. Badass episode either way
Thanks bro
How was the dog. Did he continue to be your partner or is he retired now and just your buddy now
Anyone else think that he was about to shoot up that dollar general?
ETA: how many lives did Ryan and Courtney save?
Dogs are the best.
Yes sir 👊🏼
Agreed!
RIP to Booker. I lost two dogs to old age last summer. Booker ran without hesitation towards a vehicle firing multiple rounds to protect his partner. He also chased the assailant down a highway. What an amazing companion.
Probably no surprise here but I am most upset about the dog. 😔
They’re now the ones who are dealing with someone unpredictable, the next one maybe the one who gets the beating of their life…
Who is here because of the shooting in Red Bluff CHP.
🙄 But I've heard of enough stories to see how powerful and natural it is(there are fakes out there too)
I'm kind of surprised the doctors didn't do any surgeries to remove any of the bullets or shrapnel.
@@VMR8648a lot of the time bullets or fragments that end up in vital areas provide more risk than reward if they were to operate to remove it
Fkn warrior!
