I have cochlear implant since age 3. I didn't speak properly when I was child. I had speech therapy for 5 years. Cochlear implants are so cool. Now I'm in regular high school and I'm doing well in studies. Only thing I hate about cochlear implant is my social issue. It's not like I have difficulty in communication but I'm still dealing with loneliness since childhood. Everyone just treat me differently even though I can handle things on my own. But at the same time, I'm so grateful for being different. It gives me lots of attentions from everyone. It's like I'm princess lol

hi there. I`d like to speak to you if possible. Just to ask a few q`s about the implant and its impacts on your life. My son is severely deaf and it is very likely that he`s gonna get a pair of cochlear implants in the near future. What`s the best way to reach out to you?
      Many thanks

Hi Lucie, I've been watching your videos for quite some time, especially those about Harry as my son was also diagnosed with severe to profound hearing loss. My son was implanted just after his 1st birthday and was activated (turned on) a few weeks after. It has been 9 months since my son's hearing birthday and my husband and I could not be any happier with the decision we made to implant our little boy. Immediately after his activation he was given a speech therapist, two therapist to be exact and a special instructor. He also goes to a school that specializes in teaching children with hearing loss. We are often told that while he is 19 months in age, we can almost compare him to a 9 month old (in speech development) due to the delay. My son was implanted with the Cochlear Nucleus 7 device (the most recent processors) and it has been a dream come true. However, we struggle with him at times to keep them on. When he is tired of them he will take them off, or when riding in the car for a long time they may end up in his mouth. Did you ever go through this with Harry? My son is beginning to say "mama" and "dada", make some of the ling 6 sounds, but is not extremely vocal. How long did it take Harry before he began to actually speak? I have several questions and would love to reach out to you a little bit more. Is there another way to contact you?

Love this Lucy! As you know from previous comments my daughter (6) is deaf 😊 she solely relies on BSL, and is also a great lip reader too... she also goes to mainstream school and has a communicator in class all day with her to sign what the teacher is saying 😊 please dont worry about Harry going to school, he will be brilliant! My husband & myself are currently doing BSL as a qualification, passed level 1 and waiting to start level 2 xxx

I joke my handbag mostly has stuff for my hearing aids! I find it hilarious! 😂 I don't know whether it is something that
would be suitable for cochlear implant batteries but one of the best things I have brought is a small case to put my batteries in. I have one in my handbag and one in my work bag so I always have batteries with me!

I have a son 5 years old and he is suffering from the same problem as your son he is diagnosed with this problem last year and wearing hearing aid from past 9 months but the improvement is not that much as we were accepting he is able to hear noise but doesn't pay attention to those noises and we are not prepared mentally for the cochlear option can please suggest us what to do

I have cochlear implant since I was 3. Cochlear implant might be scary but believe me. It's worth. If I didn't got cochlear implant, I wouldn't go to regular high school school and do well in studies. I didn't speak very well when I was child but now I can. I had speech therapy for 5 years and my family also helped me.
I also have cousin who got cochlear implant at age of 9 and she never got help from her family or speech therapy. Now she's 20s and still can't speak well. I think it's time for your son to get cochlear implant otherwise it will be too late.
