Indigenous American art always strikes me as being of the highest order of expression, and if you're an artist you'll know what I mean. The neg/pos, the recession and shadow, the line itself, the ability to coherently encapsulate both abstract and figurative concepts into a single glyph, it is such a mind blowing complex. From the northernmost carvings to the Mayan stuff, I will never get my head around its deep sophistication. I love talks like this because it helps non practitioners to get a grip on that. Thanks Robert!
I've been really interested in the design aspects of this art style recently. Thank you for covering the more nuanced things about this style. Great lecture!
