Hello! and welcome to Western Australia. Thank you for sharing your beautiful highlights of Rottnest Island. So happy to see you both enjoying our beaches. Some fun facts. There are a few hidden treasures. - Deep beneath the ocean, in waters west of Rottnest Island, lies a treasure trove of scuttled ships, military vehicles and abandoned aircraft.

Anutha fact is that ROTTNEST ISLAND used to be a prison for Aboriginal men from all across the state... there are over 300 Aboriginal men buried at Rottnest Island most come from the north of the state and being from tribes that aren't local to Perth such as my people the Noongah people of the south west region of Western Australia.. these men would've suffered alot especially being displaced from their Country (tribal lands)....

@@Noemar7712 im west aussie and theres loads of caravan parks all around WA. Most places have challets, powered spots for RVs or caravans and tent sites. Pretty much all of them have camp kitchens, showers and toilets and sometimes rec rooms and mini convinience store items. If you have portable housing its MUCH cheaper than staying in a hotel but you won't be able to stay too close to the CBD (the wonders of WA are very spread out anyway - you won't see enough of it without a car).

Great video work, really enjoyable. Did you know just a few Km of shore is the beginning of the Perth trench. This massive trench starts off at 600 meters deep and shaped like a huge dinosaur it's the size of the Grand canyon. It is a major feeding ground for blue , humpback and Southern Wright whales and of course a popular hangout for great whites and tiger sharks plus many other species, even the occasional killer whales. Great deep sea fishing too. Really pleased you enjoyed it.

excellent video and great editing ... I enjoyed seeing "my backyard" through the eyes of tourists ....
You did well going for a day and heading all the way out to West End - I wouldn't recommend people try that unless they're quite fit and/or have e-bikes ... all the best for the rest of your travels..
btw - have been a surfer in WA for 30 years + up and down the entire coast morning noon and dusk (even night at City Beach sometimes) ... Have seen very few sharks, but some areas are more sharky than others.. Still you have a bigger chance of being killed by a cow or Ikea shelving than a shark ... they're definitely not "man eaters" , if they were - we'd all be dead ....😳

The name 'rottnest island' was given by the dutch survivors of the dutch india ship Batavia that has been wrecked on the great barrier reef in 1626 that saw these critters and tough they were big brown rats like back in Holland. Im from Perth and, yeah, you dont do stupid things like swim early in the mornings or late in the afternoons, or swim near seal colonies or estuary mouths, but other than that you dont really worry about it. If you take those precautions and Bruce still gets you - statistically less likely than dying by falling off a ladder or slipping in the bath - then, well, its your time.

I know!!! We are a tad over the top about it. But Charlotte comes from Newquay, UK where you can stay in the water until the sun has set.
We would love to adopt your perspective on sharks but after years of pop culture, news of shark attacks around Aus and more recently the horrific footage out of Sydney of their latest, we are way too far gone 🤣
Totally get what you mean about the statistics too. We have the same argument when we travel by plane. Charlotte hates it but I say it’s one of the safest ways to travel 🤣

@@cjexplores Ive had two close encounters with Great Whites - within eye poking distance both times and both times taken by surprise. Once at Safety Bay and once off Rottnest (Out deep). I dont recommend it, because its eerie and frightening, but both times theyve just glided past me and given me the eye (I was under the water with goggles on both times). Ive actually been more frightened by dolphins - Ive twice had those buggers surface right behind me in the water in Mandurah. To get hit by a maneating shark you have to have luck equivalent to getting hit by lightning (which, back to the statistics, is I think statistically more likely) - unless of course youre in the water in a risk zone or risk time.
By the way, you get cute little reef sharks off rottnest, especially around the Basin, off the edge of the rocks. Perfectly harmless. Kind of like seeing wild foxes, but in the water. Theyre very shy and timid.

Back over in Queensland we have a name for this, it’s called Island Tax. The cost of getting goods and produce over to the islands without the infrastructure of the national road network is included in the price. You don’t HAVE to eat there by the way. But it’s good for viewers to note the price and plan accordingly 👍🏼

"feeding the greed" - come on Al - They're supporting small business who do it tough and have a very high cost base, partly because of the big supermarkets you're suggesting they go to instead.
I'd much rather tourists and locals support small local business than the big supermarkets who ultimately hurt everyone with their greed. They also take their profits away, pay stuff-all tax, aggressively maintain a duopoly, rip everyone off, destroy small business and diversity, and cost everyone more than they should..
ok rant over - soap box put away ... 😜

@@jimimased1894 my guy, I want to help you. If you have a passion about something, that is fantastic. But your job as an activist is not to tell other people that they have to care about the thing that you care about. If everyone did that we would spend all day screaming at each and nothing would get done. If you want to do something about the cause you value then YOU need to find a way to educate others on the importance of the issue. Ive been to Sydney zero to find about aboriginal culture there. Aussie tourism has a bad look when it ignores its history & what tourists actually want, which is aboriginal history and culture!

Why have you uk people got to compare here to The Med or elsewhere in Europe all the efing time. Can't each country be unique in its own terms. It's like me comparing the uk to a turd laden sewer.
