@@Sidheart4 well, fair call then. I didn’t know his numbers but for some reason his performances don’t stand out for me perhaps. Like a Kumble or a Bhajji performance.
@@Fanofbatman great question. Honestly we can’t fit all but we have to pick one. Like @sidheart4 mentioned looks like jadeja has the best numbers but for some reason it doesn’t sit well with me. I am inclined to pick a Bhajji or Kumble who had great performances in flatter or non- helpful pitches. What’s your pick? Are you as conflicted as me?
To all those puzzled by Gavaskar, Border and Bradman's exclusion, just wanted to state that the Border-Gavaskar Trophy started in 1996-7. So, the Cricinfo team has only selected players from the last 28 years.
Kohli over Clarke is just based on pure bias. I get that Kohli is a captaincy material but he won the series in 2018 with a handicapped Australia side. Rahane beat them at their peak. Clarke btw, is also a captaincy material and was the catalyst behind Australia conquering the final frontier.
People talk about how one series is skewed for Clarke, but not about how Kohli's numbers are skewed in Aus. He has one outstanding series in 14-15, one series averaging 40, and one averaging 38. and then one test in 2020-21 where he made 74 and 4. So his numbers are heavily skewed with poor numbers in India, with an average of 39. Clarke has a better record overall. They are just too afraid of excluding Kohli, even fitting him out of position.
If stat is the only thing you want to focus on, then your argument is valid. But Kohli's 2014 series is legendary for a batter who had just seemed stupid in England but made a 180 comeback in bgt 2014. and then the 2018 series, he as a captain was something else. last 2 minefield series in india doesnt do justice to kohli in bgt
@ See, as much as I think Kohli is a terrific captain, with this side I think Michael Clarke or Pat Cummins is perfectly acceptable as captain. There are a lot of leaders in this side, even without Kohli. In the end, batting should be the first priority. If Kohli averaged even around mid 40’s in India, like guys like Pujara do, I would have tilted in his favor. Even that 39 average is boosted by that 186 on a dead wicket.
Dravid always above pujara. In any test team for test 1st choice for better will be Dravid even before sachin. More than numbers his technique is supreme in test.
I love Kohli but he doesn’t deserve to be here. He only really had 1 standout BGT (2014/15) and as good as it was, it was a very high scoring series. He was decent in 2018/19 and in 2011/12 but nothing spectacular (although his 123 at Optus was probably one of his best knocks). He’s been atrocious at home. Laxman easily plays over Kohli, Clarke should be playing over Kohli as well.
EspnCricinfo please improve your video content. This topic is irrelevant BGT xl. You should be discussing about the pitches in Australia, how other teams can make it difficult for India to reach WTC final.
Comparing averages of Laxman and Dravid in Australia with Kohli or others in later generations is rubbish...Dravid & Laxman played in 1999 when india toured that alien country after 91-92 series, thats almost 8 years. In that Era our players didnt have an exposure of playing in Australan conditions comparing to current generations where even our uncapped players get to play a lot of 3 days, 1 day and T20s in Australia. Also Dravid 180 in Kolkata alongwith Laxman changed the series on its head against a team coming with straight 16 test wins?? Can you ignore 233 and 72* not out in Adelaide which helped India win a test in Australia after 23 years. Players you are comparing with did not have to play with an undefeated team and they are not part of a team which never won in Australia in 23 years. No comparison, Period!
Sorry to say i know Bumrah is a gem but if you are judging only BGT does he really deserves in the all time team....and this team need captain like Kohli or ponting....if you are telling this team is as good that doesn't need captain then MSD had no credit in icc tournament wins because that team also was 🔥
So did you guys actually not pick Ponting and Dravid and kept Pujara in it 🤣🤣🤣 This is joke hahaha Back to back doubles, a double in his declining years for Ponting and match winning innings by Dravid
This video got my BP high with some bizarre discussion points.. Ponting, Sehwag, Dravid, Kohli, Bhajji missing 😢 .. Plus mentioning Vijay in same vein as Sehwag is disrespectful beyond the numbers

Jadeja averages 18 with ball against Australia with 85 wickets in tests. Fair call imo.
