  • The Oshawa Railway was incorporated on June 23, 1887, and it was noteworthy for both its freight and passenger services available. While operations continued until 1964, on May 11, 1963 a parade and celebration were held to mark the removal of the tracks on King St. These celebrations were captured on video, and digitized copies were donated to the Oshawa Museum’s archival collection.
Thank you to Katherine Kelly for your support and for donating the digitized footage.

My Grandfather Art Virgin was on the train. He was CN Yardmaster at the time.

Great video and thanks for posting. Was happy to drop this off to the museum for my wife (who is in the movie as a child with her Mom, while her dad was riding the back of the rail-car with the cowboy hat and one of the helpers removing the track at the end).

Who was your wife's father? Seems like he was a larger than life type of character, and of some influence in politics or business. Thanks for sharing this...

Absolutely fabulous film of such a great era in Oshawa’s life. The storefronts jogged so many memories for me. Where on earth did you discover these films?

Someone was kind enough to remember the archives when they were digitizing their family films! We were thrilled to receive the digital copies and make them available on RUclips!

Do you have any idea of the name of the man in the cowboy hat hanging from tbe boxcar? A politician ?

No unfortunately... He certainly is notable for being on the back of that train car, but he doesn't look familiar
