There are many applications where a forktruck is the ideal tool to make a lift, there are probably a lot more times when a crane is better. In the video it appears that the crane has a greater load capacity, but even when thats not the case, a crane always allows more precicise control of the load...because you can guide the load with one hand and operate the crane with the other, for example if you have to mount a large electric motor with a splined shaft and alignment pins. That said a gantry crane is a compromise solution, it's almost always better to have an overhead crane but not always practical or within budget.
The interesting thing about this video is that it shows a gantry with telescoping masts, something that would be required in a very small percentage of applications, and the rest of the time would be something to go wrong
