You showed tons of control, those evil dice would have been thrown, then later melted down while maniacally laughing... Great battle, close, very close. Thanks.
The Duchy of Andurien has alsways had spirit and I've become a fan of the faction as it tries to remain afloat against crushing tides from either the capellans or the mariks.. Great vid!
Man...Christmas came early this year for Battletech fans. Tex from TTBT is putting out a video on the Charger, Red is also putting out his longest video on the death of Comstar, and then DFA puts out a new Battle Report. Hell yeah!
I'm a simple man. I see great Alpha Strike content and I upvote. Also, would love to hear a tactical series on Alpha Strike lance/star composition and optimization.
Play of the game was definitely when Thom sent in his commandos the night before the battle to sabotage the Archer's fire control system. Elite freakin' commandos! Lots of fun to watch! And the terrain was great too. The Jenner and Blackjack were low key MVPs. I kept waiting for Thom to go prone with that Highlander behind the rock towards the end, just to eek out a little more time.
1:28:02, Aaron declining to not roll and see the TAC and damage crit effects on the Highlander? Could have been a headshot or ammo explosion for once! Aaron missed out on cinematic style points opportunity! Same with the attack on the Jenner. It was a great match, down to the wire. The additions of both "Shutdown Override," and "Arkham Bridge" songs at pivotal moments in the battle added to the immersion. Well bargained, and well played, Aaron and Thom. Even though he was wheezing and dragging himself across the finish line like a gazelle with arthritis, Aaron finally won some initiative rolls and got a match win! That FCS crit on the Marauder II to open the match was huge. Eye pokes can win a fight! Looking forward to the After Action Report videos to come!
The intros to the videos with the unit breakdowns, background and mission parameters just get me so hyped for the oncoming battle. Well done DOA, thanks for putting out all this content for us Battletech fans!
@Death From Above Wargaming I would say you guys succeed far more than others. When I do get the opportunity to play with people that aren't family the whole thing becomes "measure it yourself I'm not going to help you win" when things get heated!
We negotiate a lot before finalizing movement for example - like ‘hey aaron I am moving to get total cover - do you agree I can?’ Just to make sure we don’t spring anything on each other and then have to argue it out. Now if I could only do that with my wife.
Great Batrep! Great back n forth battle. Aaron, you try rolling the dice with your other hand. It might yield better rolls. Great terrain! Great mechs! Looking forward to more videos.
You know it was a good game when it all comes down to the very last dice roll. By the way, thanks for explaining the objective cap rules there at the end because I was very confused for a bit when Thom was saying that you won. For a minute I thought that was some of Thom's hypotenuse math. Also, I got my Alpha Strike box from Aries today, so thanks for the heads up that those were back in stock. About to take the minis downstairs and get them primed up for painting.
I thoroughly enjoy watching and listening to you guys play. Great sportsmanship and a lot of fun. Love all the work that goes into the scenario designs as well as the videos
Really great game lads and can’t wait to see what you bring out after the holiday season - Merry Christmas to ya both. And damn that was a extremely down to the wire game, my only suggestion for Thom would have been to be more aggressive in getting himself into that medium range band against the Cataphract to throw those larger dice buckets in hopes of running him off early and maybe using the Flashy to push on the Blackjack just so he couldn’t sit and do what Blackjacks do best. Shoot Everything! Overall tho a good game and good to see Aaron win one once in a long while.
Man, throwing shade on the Capellans again! What am I going to do with you guys?! Seriously though, good batrep, even if you guys are playing with the oppressive 1:1 scale in Alpha Strike. That objective would have been perfect for BattleArmor to hold if you were playing at real scale.
One way to help out with XL engine odd number structure is to round up to half. So if 3 internal hit 2 puts you in withdrawal. Played other games were that is how it's done. Just a suggestion
@Death From Above Wargaming it still works and I believe that is the way the rules are written. Pg 127 Crippling Damage ...half it's starting structure (rounded up). I love you guys and your videos. Keep it up!
Fun battle report and makes me excited for the up coming kickstarter to get vehicles. What are you all using to store the printed out mech cards from your site?
Forgive me, but what brand of gaming mats do you guys use for your topography / elevation layering? Such a cool concept. I was hoping you had a product review for these mats in your video library, but I was not able to find one. Anyway, I really enjoy watching all of your battle reports for terrain, painting, and force composition ideas. Thank you for posting all you do!
The mats are regular flat neoprene mats from places like frontline gaming, deepcut, and pwork. The layering/elevation is done with hills we place under the mat - some of our batreps show this in the intro… we also have a video in the hobby tutorials playlist that shows a full setup.
Oh I know. We house rule them to level 3 for a couple main reasons… first, a 30’ tree isn’t really average tree size. 3 levels makes more sense from a fluff side. Second, it’s way too easy to ignore swaths of level 2 forest if you’re on a level 1 hill. Like non-factor kind of stuff.
Mercs vs duchy of andurian. Shows how you build the terrain under the map and whatnot, but am curious which battle mat it is, don’t think it’s one from deep cut. Thanks!!
Ah yes! So that is from PWork Wargames. I think it is called Dust Town or something similar. Great for rocky/highland type terrain as well as solid all purpose mat. Was one of the first ones I got!
Here you go: www.pworkwargames.com/en/gaming-mats/31-277-dust-town-wargames-terrain-mat.html#/1-material-pvc_vinyl/6-size-3x3_92x92cm We always go with 4x4 neoprene.
Thom after rain-manning the terrain identification: "I never forget a shrubbery!"
lol
You showed tons of control, those evil dice would have been thrown, then later melted down while maniacally laughing... Great battle, close, very close. Thanks.
💀💀🎲🎲🔥🔥
As always, a fantastic Battle Report! Here in Central Kentucky, we are always drinking Bourbon and rooting for the Kentucky Chargers! Go Cats!
The Duchy of Andurien has alsways had spirit and I've become a fan of the faction as it tries to remain afloat against crushing tides from either the capellans or the mariks.. Great vid!
Thanks for watching!
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming Those turns flew by quickly. Do the mechs run out of ammo in Alpha Strike?
Ammo isnt tracked in AS directly, though mechs with a low amount of ammo (eg King Crab’s AC/20s) take a reduction to damage.
Man...Christmas came early this year for Battletech fans. Tex from TTBT is putting out a video on the Charger, Red is also putting out his longest video on the death of Comstar, and then DFA puts out a new Battle Report. Hell yeah!
Death of comstar more like comastar amirite

Ooh, I'm glad to see another DFA batrep right before the Holiday break! Hope you guys have a safe and enjoyable Chrismakwaanzakah!

The best tables! Nice to see how they are set up. Great stuff

Nice. A Marauder II in action. Looking forward to it.
Should we tell him?
Haha
Oh, I found out. 😔
Happy holidays from Oz!
Perfect! Just before I go on vacation. Can't wait to get to the end.
Enjoy!! Have a great vacation.

Always happy to see the cooperative attitude even when things are getting serious.

This is why our wives dont play BattleTech. We could never pin them down to anything.
@Death From Above Wargaming hilarious but accurate!
A mention of House Master Po Ding!!!!! This is a great battle report!
Haha Po Ding 4 Eva
You guys are great! Really enjoyed the game. Playing 2 games of destiny over the Christmas break. My favorite way to play battle tech now!
Ooo exciting! I am looking forward to getting back to Destiny myself!
A christmas miracle!
Love how you include the set up as well now. More comments after I watch. Merry Christmas to DFA from hyperfan! :)
Merry Christmas to you too!!
Great Batrep! Great back n forth battle. Aaron, you try rolling the dice with your other hand. It might yield better rolls. Great terrain! Great mechs! Looking forward to more videos.
God darn handheld camera!
Have been using the pilot die method, and love it. Love Alpha Strike for being so customizable.
A real nailbiter right until the end.
Well played, gents!

LOL hypotenuse maths! Enjoy the new box!
As someone who lives in Kentucky.. this pleases me
❤️
Again, a super fun BatRep. Great terrain setup, too!
playing this, current, era is ridiculous!! everything tech is insane.
It’s true. There is a simplistic beauty of those intro tech eras.
I thoroughly enjoy watching and listening to you guys play. Great sportsmanship and a lot of fun. Love all the work that goes into the scenario designs as well as the videos
We appreciate that! Thanks for watching!
Awesome game. LOL so close for both sides. that last bad roll with the archer, cata, and blackjack vs jenner LOL that was such a clutch rolls
I’ve been away for a minute, but I’m back and glad to see y’all still rocking!
Welcome back!
That table looks godlike. Great setup
Those new terrain pieces are taking it to a new level I agree. Aaron is the terrain savant
But you have them all memorized!
Flashman model looking goooood.
Bulbous!

Thom shoulda killed those Po's for the points before going for the Cataphract imho. Thanks for the great game fellas
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel!
Ugh
Game Baron vs Terrain Savant. This is going to be great! 🐺👍
Thom is also the Cover Miser, dont forget.

another killer match!
Kelly's Bushrangers are also for hire if the job is crushing those pesky Anduriens

Tomorrow we'll be trying your houserules in our group for the first time, as well as your scenarios.
Cool! Hope it goes great!

One way to help out with XL engine odd number structure is to round up to half. So if 3 internal hit 2 puts you in withdrawal. Played other games were that is how it's done. Just a suggestion
It works, but then it sort of just flips the short end of the stick to even-numbered mechs.

Love the tables.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Jenner with that much plot armor

I stick em in a rolodex type thing.

Whatever happened to Kevin. I miss his godlike rolls.
Kevin was kidnapped by harmony gold and is now an unseen MechWarrior!
Hahah best comment of the day!
Height of trees in classic is 2 levels
Y'all also use rather over sized tree terrain, so making them level 3 visually makes a lot of sense!
What game mat is this? I see it in a lot of your videos and I LOVE it
For whatever reason, this comment is showing up for me under the latest video - which batrep?

Perfect! Thank you so much! Needed something besides grasslands
How did you mount your ceiling camera over the battlefield?
There are clamps you can get on amazon for drop ceiling grids - if you have sheetrock, you can use appropriate commander strips
Could Tom have won if he ran away with the jenner at the end?
Watch the after action report to find out! 😁
There is NO Cheesy ! Only Zhule! 😅
Not a single Charger in the Kentucky Chargers, shameful.
When we get a new mini, I’ll add it 😄
Really both sides lost, too many losses for a small convoy
I do not care for the pilot die either. I like it in concept but to have an entire barrage go to crap over one die roll really sucks.
Batrep mee beebee.
