In video you connect red and black to L1 and L2 witch are hot. Each wire provides 120v. You connect green wire as ground. Where does the neutral white wire connect ? I'm wiring a TECO E510 VFD. 240 volts single phase input power to power a 240 volt 3 phase motor.
So if I'm understanding this correctly, there is no neutral in the circuit, so the two power leads come from the double pole breaker, red into one pole and the black into the other pole? So I'd be pulling three wires, a ground, and two power leads and no neutral?

I just added a VFD to an old CNC I have. Its your Mitsubishi. Thanks for showing how to get the main power cover off. Now my problem is this. The 4 lead wire that came off the spindle motor to the FWD rev relay only had the 3 power wires going between motor and controller. The ground lead from the motor went straight to the grounding area of the enclosure. Now my wire is not long enough to get to the VFD in the cabinet. Is it good enough If I just run a grnd from the VFD to the grounding area of the cabinet? Should I just say, start from the beginning and get a dedicated VFD to motor wire? Wire would have to be about 8' long.

The part I am getting tripped up on is how to wire in a switch to the line side going into the vfd so I do not have to leave it on constantly. From what I can gather I will need a DPST switch rated for the correct amperage but I can not seem to find any 2 articles or opinions that say this is the correct way to configure the switch. Some say that a switch will always burn out others say they have had a switch on theirs for ages. My manual does not list any control ports for a power switch and i I understand it correctly it goes as far as saying that a switch should not be used to control the run/stop of the drive. I take that to mean that you should not use a switch to put the unit under a load not just powering the unit on but I am admittedly getting a little cautious. Any guidance would be appreciated.

If you are trying to program Mitsubishi VFDs, check our video library and you will find other videos showing some basic programming. Every brand of VFD has different terminology, so we can't answer what F, H, A means unfortunately. For any programming specific for your machine, you will have to consult your manual for the parameters or find a local electrician who has experience with VFDs.
Lanclot, a VFD is used to control electric motors, they do not power the motors or transformers for that matter. Feel free to check out our video "what is a VFD"
You don’t specify for what country? Here in Oz - we have 4 core + Earth wires:- L1 Red L2 White L3 Blue Neutral Black Earth Green with yellow stripe! And it’s 440 volt 3 phase. L1 L2 & L3 are interchangeable to reverse parity on 3 phase motor & get it to spin correct direction.
Shahbaz, this is an AC VFD pairing with AC motors. If you have a DC VFD, you will need a DC motor. The wiring might be different since the VFD is manufactured by a different company. Emerson makes great DC VFDs.

230v and 240v is the same thing. single phase power can be either 120v (hot and a neutral) or 2 hots as "nominal" 230-240volt. same thing like, potatoe potatoo .. lol
hello friend, I am working in a solar panels company my manager asking a question to me.what happening the +ve and -ve terminals are changed into the drive is burning or working.
I have a delta 3.7kw VFD. I am using 230V BRWG (black, red, white, green) from my panel to L1,2,3,G respectively. I am using the same for T1,2,3 G. I am getting 220V to ground from each line into the magnetic start panel. I have selected the H4 220V terminal of the transformer that links to the magnetic switch (previously it was on 460V H3). When I hit the start switch I get a rapid clicking of the magnetic switch and no motor engagement. I called delta and the tech told me one of the three line legs coming in from the VFD is a "fake leg" and that must be connected to T3 or L3 depending on which end of the wire you wish to view. How do I identify this so called fake leg? I see no info in the manual about this. I am using this VFD to drive a 5hp motor for a delta unisaw (34-806) which I wired from delta to wye. I am not used to needing help for such things, but I am at a loss on this. Has anyone encountered this before?
Rollin, We need more information in order to answer your question. (1) We are not sure what you were referring to when you said "fake leg"? (2) What exactly is the magnetic switch that you mentioned? What does it do? Where is it located in the arrangement of the electrical components? (3) Where is the transformer getting its primary power? (4) Do you have a contactor after the VFD? If you are trying to close the contactor after the VFD is turned on, it will not work. Let us know. Thanks.
Hi, I am a mechanical engineering student working designing a screw conveyor as my senior project. I have a Baldor 1.5 hp brake motor. I need it to power a conveyor that will have a speed of 20-40rpm. As of now, I have a gear box with a turn-down of 20. Additional to it, I am thinking to use a VFD to control the speed. At this point, I need to start selecting a starter and VFD and need some help with that.
Hi Sofia, A VFD acts as a starter, so you shouldn't need one if you have a VFD. What is your input power voltage and phase? What is the voltage and FLA of your 3 phase 1.5HP motor?
+Stephen Schuld Stephen, yes, you abandon the neutral at the VFD. What you decide to do with the neutral wire is completely up to you. Our certified electrician said that he would just cap the wire off at the VFD with a wire nut and leave it be. It’s not necessary to disconnect it from the neutral bus bar in the breaker panel. You'd be most likely able to drive any VFD with arduino - it's controls are like analog input for speed control and digital inputs for rotation direction, emergency stop etc.

He says you don't have to use wire ferrules, but with multi stranded wires going into a screw terminal you should always use wire ferrules.

Eslam, you will need a three phase motor. VFD works with three phase AC/DC electric motors.
It is not possible to conect single phase to vfd for variation freq it must be 3 phase to change.

Robert is right. It’s 3 hot phases for - 3 phase. Sometimes there’s a neutral in addition, if 120 is being taken off one phase.
