As an American I don't know anything about British gangs, but I think this subject has gained a lot of popularity with the TV show Peaky Blinders. Today I am excited to learn about Britain most famous real life gangsters and what they were known for. If you enjoyed the video feel free to leave a comment, like, or subscribe for more!
Many years ago, my dad ran a small printing company in north London. One day, a disreputable-looking character came in and asked for a rush printing job. When the guy came to pick it up, he looked at the printing and said "Very nice. Reggie will be pleased with this." Dad didn't sleep for a week worrying about what would have happened if Reggie hadn't been pleased...
Oh shit, that would of been worrisome
My dads also a printer in Nottingham and printed for a family member of the Gunn brothers, he was terrified of upsetting them once he realised who they were connected with but told me that the family member was actually always a really nice bloke
Did he get paid,do you know,my friend?
@@Isleofskye no idea. I don't think he'd have complained if he wasn't...
The first guy is in a film called Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Fantastic film
Great movie a must watch!
@@Max_Flashheart not really
@@da90sReAlvloc blasphemy!
It said that on the actual video, apparently the comment section isn't the only thing Tyler ignores.
The krays were so bad they scared the Italian mafia away from Britain
What utter tosh ! You have obviously been reading recent magazine clips instead of their own history.
@@hiramabiff2017 Ha ha it never ceases to amaze me the bullsh*t people will write before actually knowing the truth.
When Mad Frank says things like allegedly and I wish it was true he's taunting the police. Everyone knows he did it but as long as he denies it and they haven't been able to prove it and convict him.
The Long Good Friday is a very underrated British gangster film
I saw your expression when he said 'Brown Bread Fred'. 'Brown Bread' was the cockney slang for 'dead' so Fred's nickname was effectively 'Dead Fred' because he was the go-to guy for disappearing dead bodies.
There's two films about the Kray Twins. The Krays from the 90's starring Martin and Gary Kemp and the more recent Legend starring Tom Hardy as both of them. The film Bronson is also worth watching. I honestly find this sort of thing fascinating.
You may have hear the name Charles Bronson because there was a great American Actor of the same name who unfortunately passed away in 2003, He was in films such as The Magnificent Seven, The great escape and The Dirty Dozen to name a few of the 51 films he was in. I loved most of his movies.
Lenny was a good friend of my dad and was a gentle giant when it came to women and children, we all loved him. He was horribly abused by his step fater that led to a lot of anger, which got him into crime in the early days, but he was a good person, a family man, adored his wife and kids, hated violence and would never cause trouble, ... but if it came to him he dealt with it VERY effectively. He wasn’t really a gangster, more hired muscle and a bare knuckle boxer in his younger days.
There was also an American actor called Charles Bronson, which is why it may have sounded familier
You should look into the kray twins
Unbelievable that he’d never heard of them
Glasgow Ice Cream wars, brutal. The peak of the violence came on 16 April 1984 with the murder by arson of six members of the Doyle family with others seriously burned. Knew one of the Doctors on duty that night.
Yes, the Glasgow Smile is scary and horrible. Makes Glasgow's motto a bit weird. Glasgow Smiles Better (Glasgow's Miles Better) I used to see the sign above the Kingston Bridge.
Can ye mammy sew?😉
The Krays have another cool and unusual claim of being some of the last prisoners to spend time in the Tower Of London.
It wasn't wholly accurate to say that the Krays spent the rest of their days in jail, Ronnie Kray was eventually confined in Broadmoor, a notorious psychiatric institution that held some of the UK's worst criminally insane, such as Peter Sutcliffe. Digressing slightly, those of us of a certain age will remember the days when at 10:00 every Monday morning, Broadmoor would test the wartime-sounding siren that would alert the public if anyone absconded.
Charles Bronson was also the name of a US actor from the 70s-80s, famous for The Great Escape, The Dirty Dozen, and Death Wish
It's where he got the name, he wasn't born Charles Bronson, he's changed his name several times.
Many years ago I used to play cricket for a village team not far south of London and one evening we walked into a pub on our way home, and being young know it all we asked for a couple of pints of your f***ing beer. We very quickly got a tap on the shoulder and told to be respectful of the bar staff. When this chap walked away another asked do you know who owns this pub, we of course said no, only to be informed one of the kray Twin's gang members. We drank up quickly and left. Even as teenages in the mid/late 1970's we had heard about the Kray's
"Charles Bronson? That name sounds familiar" Lol. Well, you've got two chances to recognise that name
The name Charles Bronson is probably familiar because of the American actor with the same name
The Krays became the most famous because of their love of showbiz, which probably led to their downfall.
The Richardsons were much worse, but kept a low profile.
British gangster films are fantastic.
Lock stock.
Gentlemen on netlix.
Legend.
Snatch.
The reason most gangsters are brothers is because you can depend on family
At least these gangster are more honest than the average politician.
you were thinking about Charles Bronson an American actor of many movies...he died 20 years ago....made a lot of famous movies
Watch Lock Stock and 2 smoking barrels and review it. A great British gangster movie.
Technically, only Ronnie Kray spent the rest of his life behind bars, he died in 1995. Reggie was let out on compassionate ground in 2000, because he was diagnosed with cancer, but only for a few weeks before he died.
McLean is pronounced MA CLAIN.
" BROWN BREAD" is cockney rhyming slang for DEAD !
That IS Frankie Fraser.
Yeah, it really annoyed me how even after hearing the name repeatedly said, he refused to pronounce it correctly.
The prisoner Bronson took his name from the legendary actor Charles Bronson. He's had several names over the years, not that you read these comments but someone might.
Like for Tyler Rumple or comment for Ryan Wuzer
Ronnie kray was also insane he was a paranoid schizophrenic
I met Frankie Fraser about 20yrs ago in a pub where he was talking about his life of crime. It was fascinating
Was it The Hollydale where he used to drink? I've had a few pints there. Youngsters that drank in the pub were always extraordinarily well behaved!
Everyone knows about the Kray twins. They weren't identical IRL.
Technically they were identical twins, but as they got older Ronnie put on a few more pounds than Reggie making it easy to tell them apart, plus the glasses of course.
@@samloveslfc
Wasn't _one_ of them gay too?
@@brigidsingleton1596 Ronnie was openly gay, but it has been rumoured that Reggie was bi, but kept it quiet unlike his twin. How true that is about Reggie I don't know.
@@samloveslfc
Thank you... I wasn't sure...and didn't realise they were identical twins, so didn't know if being gay was more or less likely in identical twins...
...though saying that, I have fraternal twins, and my son is gay, whilst his twin sister - older than him by twenty-one minutes - said originally that she was bi ...but now says she's gay too. (Their older sister, by five years, told me she's 'straight') so I'm obviously mistaken re my initial assumption re the Krays... Thanks.🏴🙂🖖
(Though _fortunately_ my twins are _nothing_ like them!! 🧡💙)
@@brigidsingleton1596 The Krays were legendary in London's East End for all the philanthropic work they did, they had to keep the nightclub profits out of the grasp of the Tax Man legally.
I believe it's true that the Kray twins were imprisoned for some time in London's fortress, 'The Tower of London' (opposite the famous lifting bascule bridge on the River Thames which flows through London - 'Tower Bridge' - which itself was named after the *'Tower of London*')
I don't recall how long the Kray twins were held there, though it can probably be found on Google.
(*The 'Tower of London'* history goes right back to the time of
🇹🇩 'William the Conqueror', who also _built_ 'Windsor Castle' - one of the homes of our Royal Family 🇬🇧 - in 1084 A.D, after besting 'King Harold'🏴 at
'The Battle of Hastings', supposedly on Senlac Hill, Battle, East Sussex, and there are multiples of videos on these subjects too of course). 🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏹🏴
I believe they were the last ever prisoners to be held in The Tower of London.
Charles Bronson was an American movie star, he was in "Death Wish", the gangster changed his name to the actor's name.
The Kray Twins even got put in the Tower of London for a time. The Krays fought against the Richardson gang.
Please stop pausing the video and guessing what's going on. Just listen to what's going on first, then narrate after.
They were London gangs, when they tried to head north, they were sent back with their tails between their legs, Manchester gangs were so much more organised.
The icecream wars were a horrific time in Glasgow The Wee Man is a difficult film of this time what went on was shocking.
Viv Graham should have been on this list. He was based. Out of. Tyneside area
Charles Bronson was the name of an actor, probably best known for the Death Wish films and Once Upon A Time In The West.
Legend is a awesome movie well worth a watch the kray twins we're madheads
That was the real Franky frazer and he did pull teeth and alot worse, im not justifying it but the people they done it to wornt great and Franky worked for the Richardson's so hope thats a bit of info for you ,i grew up in south London just around the corner from the Richardson's scrap yard where the torchering took place, supposedly lol😂👍🏴 love London
Lenny mclean was never a gangster.
The footage from the film you watched was about Paul Ferris-The wee man-not Thomas Mcgraw, Ferris was far worse in the underworld.
"Charles Bronson, that almost sounds familiar" "Was he a boxer?" Charles Bronson was one of America's biggest actors, I despair. Michael Peterson was a bare knuckle boxer, his promoter nicknamed him Charles Bronson after the actor, Michael had never heard of him.
Desmond Noonan was apart of the Noonan family but not the main person his 2 brothers were, one of which is in the film, the older one, the other 2 were killed.
The Richards were just as bad in not worse than the Krays, they made lots of money and remained away from publicity where as the Krays were opposite.
This is why I don't watch Mojo they do not put anything into context instead show a clip from a film and expect everyone to know what the f*ck is going on. They do not give accurate details just enough to get likes.
The reason videos like these only talk about criminals who have been caught and imprisoned is because criminals who haven't been convicted - because the police lack the legal evidence for which they could be arrested and prosecuted - could sue for libel if they were portrayed.
Or, of course, they might decide to deal with the matter in their own way.
The Governor Lenny became a movie star that's a guy Richie movie He was in. He was a bareknuckle prize fighter.
Charles Bronson copied his name from the name of the actor in the Death Wish movies!
The "Bulky bald bruiser with a working-class English accent" is almost a movie trope for a violent tough guy nowadays. An extreme example is the protagonist's first target in the film Ninja Assassin.
My fiancé grandad and nan knew the Krays back in the day. His grandad used to run in a similar circle with alot of mutual friends of the Krays. He used to say Reggie was a very charming and charismatic man but not to mistake that charm for sanity. Whereas Ronnie was more like a human time bomb.
Different Charles Bronson.... there was a US actor.... a big star in the 1960-70 s action movies ...and that one often had a moustache too!
For fiction. Watch "Lock, Stock and two smoking barrels". One of the most violent and funny films ever created!
You talk far to much in your videos. Maybe you should talk a little less and absorb a little more. Oh BTW why do you stop to repeat what we all just heard duh. I'm gonna unsubscribe..
Oh my Tyler, I suggested you move to the UK following the food video but having watched this gangster video I think you are safer staying in the USA eating bad food!
Tyler check out Lee Murry. Lee was a former UFC fighter who was involved in the worlds biggest cash hiest.
What's he doing with those hammers... 🤔
My dad met with Frankie while doing work for people, he did know a few of those types of people. Complete psychopaths. The reason a lot of those people didn't get done for murder or whatever was because they had people do 'favours' for them. You could go to them with a problem and they would fix it for you no questions asked, but they get to call a favour in at any time and you don't have the option to say no.
I just don’t understand why Bronson keeps making it onto these lists of gangsters. A criminal, yes. But not a gangster. And yet he’s in the list when they leave out giants like Jack ‘Spot’ Comer.
Watch the film "Legend"...............it is all about "The Kray Twins".
That Guy featured "Mad" Frankie Fraser was an enforcer for The Richardsons so got 2 mentions...
what's he doing with those hammers?.. not hanging pictures, thats for sure! lol
They used hammers to beat up people.
@@Joyce-Barker lol don’t think beat up is the right way of putting it!
Look up,,the chase of Bonzo Daniel's 🏴
Lol when you got to number 2 saying lots of brothers rise to the top of the crime family somehow, and you obviously not knowing who number 1 will be, every uk citizen would know the number one.
Legend is a great movie.
I was in a building society queue in Islington north London,I turned around and Frankie Fraser was behind me,I was shocked at how small he was.
Charles Bronson changed his name and grew a moustache because he was a massive fan of the actor of the same name.
The Kray Twins, were animals, but there are 2 films about the Krays, first film starred 2 actual brothers as the kray twins
Unfortunately for people from these backgrounds (as they are in the US as well) they are born into an area that operates as an independent society where crime is normalised. This is not their fault and is due to under-funded schools that cannot provide an adequate education for them so if they want to be able to feed their families they have to resort to crime.
Mentally they have to justify their actions so they demonise the government and police (often rightfully so). It’s understandable as the government often did nothing to help these people in poverty and yet they want to stop them from doing the only thing they know that let’s them provide for their family and feel powerful in a world that took all their power from them.
I’m not justifying crime, but when it’s all you’ve known you’re going to talk about it nonchalant. Keep in mind they will often also have been prevented from entering “normal” places in society for how they look and talk, stared at for being out of place, which only fuels the entire situation.
There’s a lot of work to do to support people who are in poverty and we’re born into cringe.
That is THE Mad Frankie Fraser at 12:06.
Ice cream vans are still used to order your weed, just need to know the code to order, and they’ll slip the bag in the cone before topping it off with ice cream so it’s discreet. Just pay cash at the van. Huge clue is when the van is out even in cold/winter weather lol.
I was born 10 mins walk from the krays..my parent owned a bakers on mare St Hackney we lived above it..but they did not bother anyone other than their own kind..my mum said we knew they were there but you didn't get bothered or take notice..one was also kray crazy lol..he was in mental institute for his whole life.
Oh please! You have never heard of the movie Death Wish? Bronson was a Hollywood actor.
Charles Bronson actor made the DEATH WISH films.
The first guy, Lennie McLean looks like the father of my first serious girlfriend - scary man!.
I used to go to a club called Camden palace lenny McLean was the top doorman he was great very fair but if you took the piss then it was good night for you. I also watched him fight in the ring fukin brilliant wot a tough hard man .check out the fight with lenny and roy shaw they had 3 , lenny knocked him clean out the ring brilliant loved it
Gang in Manchester in the 90’s ..? There was a gang before that nicknamed the quality street gang..So never heard of this one
Tyler: oh my god he looks like a real life comic book villain. I'm thinking Tyler's got Kingpin on his mind, from Marvel.
You probably know the name Charles Bronson because he was a famous actor best known for the Death Wish movies.
the better movie of the Krays is from the 80's
Your comments that it seems weird how gangsters are interviewed as if they're politicians or celebrities is quite telling, here in the UK they're often portrayed in that way, movies are made about their lives, books are written by them or about them and there is often a kind of hero worship.
Why comment on Lenny's looks? If people were all what they looked like, you'd be a ferret.
Oh my god, let the clip play for more than 5 seconds before interrupting with a banal comment 😤
Most of these guys arent the big criminals, mostly known in these videos when they were past there primes and out of jail
Guy Ritchie made them “cool” and so lots of documentaries and movies have been made about them.
Charles Bronson was also the name of the actor from the Vigilante film series
Curtis Warren was one of UK s feared gangster wasn't in top ten lol yet noonins where?????? Lol false info really
Lenny McLean looks like 25% of The Fantastic Four.
As a youngster back in the 1960s the Krays were local heroes, the Richardson's less so. They made the Blind Beggar (Pub) infamous with the Cornell murder, but it was always nice to drop by for a beer there. I went to Reggie's funeral and it is well worth a visit to Chingford Mount Cemetery where they are all buried, even poor Frances, Reggie's unfortunate wife. May you all rest in peace
Maybe underworld criminal heros to some underworld gangsters and those who knew less than they ought to have know. They attempted to populize themselves with name dropping of celebrities. But as notrius known violent gangsters with a leaning to sadisim. If the truth could have been made public whilst they were still at large them many would likely have denied a strong friendship. In those very early years they ran a nightclub or two and would put their arms around a real popular celebrity for a photo then use that photo to try to make out they too were popular. Course in their area they were semi-popular with other notrius villiens but only to a certain level as they also victimised members of the their firm. When they were no longer at large their gang members were free to tell enough to get them sentenced. Not because their were friends but because they were disliked. The later it got in the sixties the further other gangsters wanted to distance themselves.
They were victimisers. So I do not know how you made the error of thinking they were local heros. Wasn't it Bobby Moore who ran the Blind Beggar and after they dispacted McVite he too preferred to be a long distance away. Of course there was also the Gang Wars and so they were not heros as such to their opposites in crime.
Reginal Krays poor unfortunate wife! Are you too scared to say how she was treated and how or why she died by suicide. Her parants didn't want her buried with them. Most likely a nieve nice person who never knew what she was getting married too. They could make a grown adult male's skin crawl and have nervouse anxiety attacks due to the horrors they commited and repersented. So how much more of a nervouse wrect would a young innocent women be?
Sorry but my guess is you likely have underworld criminal connections or had and therefore you consider The Krays heros when many or by far the most of respectable people do not. Sorry.
Grand Theft Auto took the ice cream vans and put it into their games from number 9.
Tyler, sit on yer 'ands an' belt up a bit. I get copyright but you interject to often.
It's not pronounced "Governor" it's pronounced "Guvna"
Before Krays twins was bill hill godfather of London
Lenny Mcleen looks like King pin from marvels halkeye and echo series
you said that Charles Bronson thing just to be annoying didn’t you?
Tylor your thinking of charles bronson the american actor lol
Mad Frankie Fraser was the Enforcer for The Richardsons.
Death Wish has the actor Charles Bronson playing the main role
I worked with him ( Lenny) at the Hippodrome , was a twinkly eyed gentle guy who loved telling me stories about his wife and daughter.
I know about other stuff, I saw a couple of times him intimidate folks but didn't see any of the nasty stuff...
Sorry but who are we referring to,please?
Check out 'lock, stock and two smoking barrels,' it's a fantastic film.
My father in law was a prison guard and dealt with Bronson and the Krays.
This "typical average American" is nothing of the sort, in fact her is unique amongst RUclipsrs. he owns several channels and uses a different surname on each channel. Also, he never responds to comments or makes any of his own other than what's in the video. This is an interesting strategy in that it probably keeps the tolls at a minimum and protects his private life as well. Many RUclipsrs could learn from his example.
Not unique though. His brother, who has three channels in different names, does the same. Minimum input, no response to Comments, "learn" very little despite people providing them with information with helpful intentions. Smart or rip-off merchants?
What we call a gang in the UK , in the states you would call them a crew
Funny how quite a few of us commentators have some sort of connection to one of them!
Google actor,Charles Bronson…not the same as the thing on this
The Kemp bothers version is better. way better
My mum was born in the east end of London in the 30’s. She always said that there were no muggings, far less burglaries and you felt safe to walk the streets at night when the krays were around. They only hurt criminals and raised a lot of money for local charities. Ok, they were mad bastards but not bullies.they weren’t foreign , they were local men doing what they needed to do to get by.
in the 90`s i shared a house with a guy who had been just a runner for the krays when he was 16 he got caught and was sent to borstal for 2 years jail for 6his mom was on her own with 4 younger kids, while he was away they paid his wages to his mom and sent a food hamper every week to make sure she was ok for everything. , when he got out they set up a proper job for him and he n stayed on the straight and narrow after that never tried to recruit the younger siblings as the said one of her kids in nick was enough
