Similar to Otis Autotronic, it's an older system of controlling the elevators.

MG = MOTOR GENERATOR
This elevator must have a DC MOTOR. It needs a motor generator to convert alternating current electricity into direct current. These are being phased out slowly for AC motors. Pittsburgh has a lot of respect for Westinghouse because it had been a part of Pittsburgh tradition for many years. Westinghouse Elevators were made there!

Even if they still use DC motors MG sets are long outdated because they could just use a diode in it's place.
