    I think the final result looks super smooth. A shame the decals didn't work out but there's only so much you can do with limited resources..

    Could you provide me in some way in PDF what the letters are as for me to print them on my printer and try to restore it I got one that works but aesthetically it is very sad and I would like to try to leave it as authentically it would be very much appreciated if you could pass me the letters and symbols a big greeting and the color and finish have been very well achieved

    I had the first model Lynx in the day, but I was opting for MkII this time, particularly because of the grey colour coating wearing off the first model, revealing white beneath. Now this video contained information that could cause me to revisit that choice.

      To each his own, of course. But I always thought the Lynx I has a much more timeless and classy look when compared to the Lynx II.
      Thank you very much for watching, I really appreciate it!

    My PAG-0201 has a complete circular D-pad, also mine never came with that sticker on the right side of the battery case. I bought mine back when they were just released and kept it ever since.

    • @morph-x7153
      @morph-x7153  5 лет назад +1

      You say you have a PAG-0201, or do you mean you have a PAG-0200 with a circular D-pad? That would be strange. To my knowledge all PAG-0201's came with the circulare D-pad so i'd consider that correct. It is weird however that yours doesn't have the game card reference sticker. But back in the day production and delivery weren't as strict as nowadays.
      Thanks for watching!!

    Well done! I'm really enjoying this. 12:13 If there was a gray color under the silver (opaque, matte gray> silver> primer> white plastic), that would be the electrically conductive primer. The silver under-coat was applied using some electrical deposition process, according to an interview I read back when the system was new. Those responsible seemed very proud of the process because it was somewhat new, giving the Lynx I a unique look, and the metalized housing provided additional durability. The paint process is similar to the modern custom "candy coat" vehicle paint jobs, aside from the electrically-deposited undercoat, and I do agree that it's something to be proud of on a game system. If I recall correctly, they tested a variety of paint jobs before going with the "advanced" metalized process. It's a shame that they cut that cost on the Lynx II.

    12:30 That cover door was lose by modern standards right out of the box when I received my Lynx brand new. Yours probably wasn't worn excessively. It's just that way. Consumer electronics physical design tolerances, and consumer expectations, are more precise these days thanks mostly to modern mobile device manufacturers competing for the smallest, tightest designs.

      Thanks very much for your nice comment, much appreciated! Also thank you for the extra information regarding the paint process, very interesting indeed. It suits the Lynx I, especially compared to the Lynx II, which in my humble opinion is really inferior to its predecessor. The Lynx I is an outstandingly built console.

    Great work! I just aqquired a model II least week that works great! Honestly your model 1 looks incredible! Heck I even like the "nude" look without the decals!
    Planning on an lcd mod?

      Thank you very much! The McWill mod is very tempting but unfortunately also pretty costly. There are so many things i still want to add to my collection so it's hard to choose how to spend the little money i have. But i guess most of us have that problem. Have fun with your Lynx II! It's a fun and overlooked system.

    Buenos días. Compré una Lynx para reparar. Todo funcionaba hasta que me equivoqué a la hora de soldar los cables de alimentación y puse positivo en negativo y el negativo en positivo. La consola dejó de funcionar. Creo que el fallo
    Puede estar en los diodos que están justo al lado de donde van soldado los cables de alimentación. Usted me podría decir cuál es el valor de cada 1 de estos tres diodos?

    Hi, I totally liked your video. You should make a second tutorial video on a first generation Atari Lynx, but with vynal decal sticker and a custom paint job. Great video.

    Awesome job... You've inspired me to clean up my Atari Lynx I. It still works, but the case is in bad shape.... Yours came out looking great, and I hope I can come close to it.
    I saw your comment that you no longer have the files.... does anyone know where I can find cleaned up Atari serial number and insert game card stickers?

      Wow, it's fantastic to hear that my video motivates you to start working on your Lynx! Unfortunately I have no clue where the original files went, which is honestly very a-typical of me, so it bums me out, wish I still had them to share!
      Best of luck with your restoration, any plans on documenting it here on RUclips? I'd be curious to see.

      You already did a lot of work! The red is very nice. Too bad it didn't work out too well. I can give you some pointers, but i'm not sure if you already did this.
      - But very important is the paint preparation. As you can see in my video, i very thoroughly sanded the Lynx shell with 600, 800 en 1200 grid sandpaper to get a very smooth surface.
      - Making the surface dust and grease free is super important.
      - When painting (with a spraycan i presume) it can help to first heat up the spraycan in warm water, that way the paint flows very well. Then first apply a couple of thin coats with 5-10 minutes between each layer. Then apply a wet coat, which is a thick coat, done by slowly and steadily spraying the paint. This is a touchy feely thing because you can get runs quite easily. However, when the preparation (sanding and degreasing) isn't done properly, you'll never get a nice paint job.
      Again, maybe you did this and there was some kind of chemical reaction between the both paints or anything like that. But i do like the gray/red combo, looking very 80's retro! :)
      Thanks for sharing and good luck!

      @myislander 3 года назад

      @@morph-x7153 thanks! I may try the red again with your suggestions. I really like how it came out on the battery cover. Maybe I just didn’t get the rest sanded as well and with your spray paint techniques, it might work better.
      Or I’ll just leave it with the red buttons :-).

      I was just diving into my archive, but unfortunately i don't have the source files for the labels anymore. I have deleted them because a while after posting this video, i was sure i wouldn't need them anymore. I'm sorry, i would've loved to share them with you.

    Looks really awesome!
    But what if you first print the labels for the buttons in white, and overprint with the orange one.
    In this case you have a base for the Color, and the dark grey doesn’t effect the orange.
    I think they make it also by uv printing for better results!

    • @morph-x7153
      @morph-x7153  4 года назад +1

      Hi! Thanks a lot for watching and commenting!
      The idea is great, but i would need a printer that is capable of printing white ink. They exist, but they're a bit too expensive for my taste. Also, i've noticed over the course of several projects that printing the same image twice on the same paper, you always have alignment discrepancies. These labels are very small, so even a alignment discrepancy of 0.1 or 0.2 mm would stand out. Maybe it's possible on a real professional machine, but i don't think it's possible with any machine that i have at my disposal.

    It looks great! Especially considering every single original model lynx I see on ebay looks awful, I don't even think the decals not being there make it look bad, and I love dragon ball z music, great video!

      Thank you!! You're right, unfortunately. This revision has a somewhat weak paintjob, so almost every Lynx of this revision looks like it's done a lot more than just play games. And very cool you picked up on the DBZ music. Thanks for watching and commenting. It means a lot!

    Mine works great. Except one side of the screen is dark. I mean I was the one who played it as an adult. And I like it so very much. No scratches. Just a dark screen. Any way thank you so much for reading.
    Is there any way you could repair it. My hand shakes, and it's impossible to hole my hand still.
    Thank you for the video.

    • @morph-x7153
      @morph-x7153  2 месяца назад

      @@supermanziggy Might be the backlight of the screen that has gone dead after all these years. There are replacement kits for just a few bucks that you could install. It does require some soldering. But I believe it’s quite true to the original quality. Or, you could go for an IPS kit install or similar. Which would be more expensive and a lot more work. I’m sorry your Lynx is going faulty.
      Thank you for watching.

    Great job, I have a non-working PAG 0200, you made me want to dust it off and give it a new life, but I have to fix the electronics first, luckily I don't have to mess with the paint 😅
    Like everyone, I think, the back labels wore out soon, when I was still a kid I took them off (whatta dumbass) so now I have nothing to scan to try to reproduce them, I read that you have lost the source files of your replicas , if it is possible could you send me a picture of them? I would like to try to vectorize them and release them in the wild 😜
