The movies that were “good” Tyler Perry movies such as A Family that preys, Daddy’s little girls, and Diary of a Mad black woman are LIONSGATE FILMS- they directed not Tyler, they changed his scripts to make it make sense. thats why pple are sitting confused at his recent movies that are done in his “Tyler Perry” studios no more lions gate. Meaning Lionsgate had a huge hand in the actors that played in those “good movies” they got A list celebs. now compare that with a Fall from Grace, Mea Culpa, Acrimony, - all tyler. So if you want him to go back to before he will not because he has his own studios and doesn’t want help with scripts. so pple are really disappointing themselves thinking it will be the same
Well the only part Lionsgate played on those films were promotional and distributing the films. He still wrote, directed, and produced those films under his old studio and still owns the rights to those films. But those films were different because most of them were adapted from his stage plays which were arguably the best content he's ever created. Those films had a basic formula that worked well for his audience. Tyler's problem now is he's taking on too much content. He writes 1 season of a TV show in only 2 weeks. He films movies in 1 week now and now his studio is wayyyy bigger than it used to be so he's busier as a business man now. He doesn't have time to create any type of quality work or refuses to take the time. He writes the first thing that comes to his mind which may have worked better for his basic movies from back in the day but not these thrillers he's trying to venture into. It requires more thought.
This movie was bad, but you do realize that buddy was not a murderer, right? Did you even watch this movie? She could have believed in his innocence (which he in fact was). … Dude did not take her on his motorcycle to a sex party. You are off on the sequencing. It was worse than that. He just walked to a sex party in the basement of his building complex and she followed him. It was a completely ridiculous scene that was not necessary. That scene, the random sex buddy (white lady) scenes, and the goofy red lit dark room at the family home. All of these scenes were trash and should have been cut. … They tried to play this off as a seduction of a beautiful career woman by a dark artsy type. Instead of playing up the seduction as a man macking his way up to her level (causing her to risk her career and marriage), they dragged her down into the muck (through unnecessary perversion). This movie had the bones of a good movie, but fell flat due to bad writing, bad directing and spotty acting. Just awful.
Your last paragraph, spot on! This whole premise had so much potential but I found myself sucking my teeth sooo many times, but of course, I should’ve expected a damn MESS from TP. Regardless, I’m glad to support Ms. Kelly Rowland.
Amen! You are 💯% right! Im so glad someone caught onto this BS! I just posted on this reveiw. Those pointless sex trash scenes and that random trashy white woman…ughh! Let me just stop.
It’s Tyler Perry. What are y’all expecting him to do? He’s no Spike Lee, Scorsese, Spielberg, Tarantino, Coogler, he’s not even freaking Ice Cube. The bar is set at Tyler Perry low level. I didn’t expect the twist but it makes sense as to why they didn’t want her to be on the case because they knew she would figure it out. On another note I can’t with the Kelly slander. Just because you don’t watch Christmas Hallmark and Lifetime movies doesn’t mean she can’t act. It was the directing and the lines.
Kelly is gorgeous but it felt like she was playing a lawyer. Like she was playing dress up. She was overly made up to be a convincing attorney. She also had a blank stare a lot. I really enjoy her acting but the unexpected moments and the lack of plot was sad. Then she was nude in times it wasn’t necessary. The paint scene was cool but felt out of place. I’m proud of Kelly but Tyler tried it.
Maybe it’s just me all I wanted to know was why was the sex club in the parking lot. Dude put on his jacket like he was about to go somewhere lol. This movie was Tyler Perry after dark. Terrible!
Thank you for saying that Ronreaco was the best, that's exactly how I felt. You can tell he's seasoned. Ive seen other people saying that Trevante Rhodes did a good job and i have to absolutely disagree, I felt he did a terrible job. Phoned it all the way in.

I don't know what I was doing because I completely missed what happened with the family. Lol. I looked up and Mea was running and then crashing the the car with the husband. I forgot to go back and find out. Lol.
I’m about to rant in 3..2..1. I can’t stand TP movies. I consider myself to be a huge movie nerd. I watch anything. Low budget, huge budget, foreign, horror, sci-fi, romantic, comedy, etc. what makes me love films isn’t just “oh that’s a cute guy”, “or she’s my fave actress”, I love a great script, cinematography, a great score, scenery, and passion. For example one of my fave films is “The secret Life of Walter Mitty”, my goodness it was a beautiful film. My passion started by watching classic films on TCM & AMC channel laying in bed with my g’ma. And all of this that I have said does not describe a TP film EVER. He’s a lazy writer and just because he’s blk does not mean I have to support it. Look at Peele, Lee, Coogler, etc. His movies are basic and at this point for as long as he’s been doing this he still is making junior H.S. Plays. He is the pure definition of a capitalist. He has a full bucket of water but will only pour a drop of it out for his films. And the fact that it’s always a low down and out woman that needs this blue collar man to save her, or a powerful business woman that needs a blue collar man to fix her, or oh what about the stay at home wife to a powerful businessman, who gets done dirty by him, then need a blue collar man to fix her, now sometimes she a greedy woman who does her blue collar man dirty and she loses everything, while he finds a simple southern church girl. I’m tired of it it’s lazy, lazy, lazy, and pure trash. Stop supporting this man there are plenty of blk men and women that can give you amazing films get this man and his 🗑️ films outta here pls.
I didn't realize there was so much "white collar/corporate=evil; blue collar =good" in his movies. Honestly, I fell off the tp wagon (barely hung on to begin with) about 15 years ago. I did see the dark skin/light skin and god-fearing/heathen equivalent in them; they follow the same path. No matter what type of woman you are, what you NEED is one of them hard working, blue collar, light skinned, God -fearing mens cause they know what's good for you.....TP probably
I cannot believe that Mea who is suppose to be a smart attorney went off and cheated on her husband after seeing ONE PHOTO. She really had sex with a potential murderer who just had sex with another woman. That’s disgusting. I’m not surprised though because the writing and directing was awful. I also agree with you that Tyler Perry’s best film is A Family that Preys. I also liked Daddy’s Little Girls and Why did I get married as well.
Let me get this straight you’re talking about Kelly Rowland having sex with another man who just has sex with another woman yet you love the family that preys and that’s exactly what Shania Lathan character did🥴, you Black people & your opinions are so primitive and now I see why globally people don’t take y’all seriously you all over the place
This movie was so slow I had to fast forward this movie. I was expecting to see a battle in a courtroom between her and her brother-in-law. This was a very difficult movie for me to watch. I did love Kelly’s clothing who ever styled her baby gets an A+
Kelly has been adding to her acting resume for years. She was in Empire, a series of christmas movies, and a Halloween Netflix movie. I think she's a pretty good actress.
You had me rolling this morning B🤣🤣🤣. You know these Tyler Perry movies make the dark skin brother the evil one, the women gullible in a trashy soap opera.
In my opinion I thought Kelly Rowland was fantastic. She did absolutely brilliantly. I didn’t like the any of the sex scene at all, it was not necessarily and very disgusting. The ending of the plot was stupid which is the reason why Tyler Perry should not have written it by himself it would be better to have others writers input.
It was an expensive Nigerian movie. I fell asleep halfway and fast forwarded through the rest of it. Everyone was beautifully dressed and easy on the eyes but the plot line was wack. 😅
He should put it down because he has no idea what black people want to see. He literally makes the same movie over and over again. It's embarrassing at this point

I love Tyler Perry, but this movie made me mad at how dumb Mea was. Especially in the end 🤦🏾♂️…I completely agree RonReaco acting was definitely the best. He was the only one who didn’t sound like he was reading from a script.
The writing was just not there. Too many plot holes. How did her PI friend find the emails about the mother not being sick? None of this made any sense. I also never saw Mea's legal team for her to take on such a high profile case. It's like she was an independent lawyer with an assistant who took her coat and things and that's it. Like what? Lol I wanted to like this movie but I really couldn't.
I agree, she was a high powered lawyer with no visible secretary. Just a person in the lobby that assisted him ?!! 😅😂 She didn’t have an elevator to her office, so everyone she spoke to met with her in the lobby?!! 😅😂
Here's the thing... screenplays are hard to write. I'm studying screenwriting now, and for every project I hand in, the amount of notes and corrections I get back always show that there were things I never considered in the story. Now, as far as Mr. Perry is concerned, it seems like he made a common screenwriting mistake: holding onto an idea he loves, and then forcing the plot to support his treasured idea. However, that makes for an extremely inorganic story. For example, Mr. Perry's first idea might have been to create either "Basic Instinct" (crime, sex, suspense) with black characters, or an updated version of "9 1/2 Weeks" (lustful tension, sex-focused, suspense). Fine. That's all good. But then he would need to write that out and submit the screenplay to other screenwriters to critique the hell out of it, respond to the recommended changes, and revise it. Rinse. Repeat. I guarantee you that if he had done that, 90% of the issues we have with this story would have been gone.
In my review of "Mea Culpa," the movie left me disappointed and disjointed. The poorly delivered dialogue and lackluster performances, especially Kelly, gave the impression of an under-budget film. Kelly's portrayal lacked facial expressions, and her attempt at a firm, straight-shooter lawyer fell flat. Trevonte's character took a bizarre turn, with cringy lines and inappropriate scenes, such as the orgy party in his building and the awkward sex scene with his neighbor while Kelly stood idly by. These moments contributed to the overall ridiculousness of the storyline, making it hard to take seriously despite the stunning cast. The film's multitude of concepts and poor execution left me thoroughly unimpressed. At this juncture in Tyler Perry's career, it seems imperative for him to assign roles to individuals who can elevate his work. The audience may grow weary of these seemingly hastily assembled movies that offer little enjoyment, even with an attractive cast. What captivates a core audience is the evident effort and attention to detail from a producer, actor, and director. Unfortunately, "Mea Culpa" felt thrown together for a quick profit and exposure, lacking any substantial value added to the craft.
Tyler Perry's disdain for black women, no longer needs to be questioned with this one, he definitely has mommy issues, if he is not putting on a dress to mock us because he cannot be us then he is betraying us as weak and desperate, oh but educated, yet somehow still cluless. I think the only thing this movie did for his career was to finally solidify that until he allows other writers than himself, the final product will be always be subpar, as best.
Being alone with a possible murderer in his loft was crazyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
Exactly that made no sense …..

Such ashame that Tyler Perry still hasn't improved.
All of it was terrible including the seggs scene . I didn't like that WW talking to these BW like that. It was terrible.👎🏾
The way the mom broke her phone was so bad
And the fact she didn’t have a realistic reaction.
Yes. I was waiting on her response to be like damn what the heck? But no. She was cool with it I guess 🤷🏾♀️

This movie reminded me of Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor. Just insert Kelly Rowland for Jurnee Smolett - almost same lines and dialogue between her and the man…”I know you’re attracted to me… just admit it”.
Yes. I said this SO MANY TIMES while watching this! I was like you ain’t fooling me! It was like A Fall From Grace and Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor. Judith was weak and fell for Harley. Mea was also weak (or just poor writing) and fell for Zahair. But sleeping with him right after he screwed another woman. Oh no. That’s just awful 😣.
Any real attorney would have disengage had anyone said that statement. At least Mea didn't come out with a deadly disease.
So Mea just straight tongue kissed him right behind another woman he was bangN huh😳
Plus he also received oral as well from “the neighbor.”
That was the dumbest part! Then immediately jumps in bed after he just had sex with another woman 🙄
Right, he didn’t wash up or nothing. They hopped on the bike and then came back and f*cked in paint. Nobody wants paint in their private parts.
Yea that was so crazy to go right behind that other woman like that
🤢🤮
This movie was dumb lol

The movies that were “good” Tyler Perry movies such as A Family that preys, Daddy’s little girls, and Diary of a Mad black woman are LIONSGATE FILMS- they directed not Tyler, they changed his scripts to make it make sense. thats why pple are sitting confused at his recent movies that are done in his “Tyler Perry” studios no more lions gate. Meaning Lionsgate had a huge hand in the actors that played in those “good movies” they got A list celebs. now compare that with a Fall from Grace, Mea Culpa, Acrimony, - all tyler. So if you want him to go back to before he will not because he has his own studios and doesn’t want help with scripts. so pple are really disappointing themselves thinking it will be the same
Oh wow good point
Acrimony was good though. 😂
Wow, you're right. He's only hurting himself. Getting rich off of mediocre flicks with b and z list actors 🤷🏽♀️🙄😭
I would add why did I get married to the list
This review validated me because I thought I was being overly negative. I happy to have found your channel
Kelly was awesome in Empire as Terrence Howard's mother
Man I just watched this movie and couldn't wait to hear your opinion 😂 I was hoping that I wasn't the only one that thought this movie was dumb 😂😂
This movie was bad, but you do realize that buddy was not a murderer, right?
Did you even watch this movie?
She could have believed in his innocence (which he in fact was).
…
Dude did not take her on his motorcycle to a sex party.
…
They tried to play this off as a seduction of a beautiful career woman by a dark artsy type.
Thanks for saving me from watching the rest of it..... Infidelity is triggering. It's like 98% of programming haha

For me… the dialogue LACKED so much… it felt like no one really talked… just showed up to look beautiful. 🤦🏾♀️
Shannon Thornton is her name . Tyler Perry will pay for his crimes lol
Lmao😂
Kelly has been in several lifetime and hallmark movies the last 5 years
Yes, she’s been good in all of them. But this one…not so much. It felt like she was literally reading her lines.
Then there’s me.. not knowing anything that’s going on. Just watching Kelly’s outfits and hair😂❤
She used her own hair and makeup team, I know it. She looked radiant ✨️
lol I was definitely taking notes . That orange Fabletics fit was really cute on her.

But in typical Tyler Perry fashion he took it way too far with the assault scene and the ridiculously jealous brother telling on him. Tyler makes really weird choices that makes his films suffer when they don’t need to.
@@lrs1519 The assault scene was unnecessary. But, this just screams how much TP is dealing with PTSD from his own trauma. If he's not seeing a therapist, I wish he would. I'm not being sarcastic. i dont blame kelly or trevante at all. they did a great job with what they had. tyler should just produce other writers' projects at this point. he wants credit for writing, producing, directing but he's not a writer. the script was totally unbelievable with what seemed like no direction. he jumped from one thought to the next with no thought to his audience's intelligence. the orgy scene while he was far removed upstairs painting was just weird, sex covered in paint that remained the next day (trevante washes kelly while he's still covered in it), the fact that the conflict of interest that was such a big deal in the beginning played no part at all as the story unfolded, just so many things. he just jumped all over the place
Thanks for your review B. Avery! I didn’t plan on watching this movie. Tyler Perry just has not been my cup of tea for some time now.
Kelly Rowland was recently in The Curse of Bridge Hollow, and although it was a silly, family movie, I thought she did an ok acting job.
No to the sex scene and the orgy scene. I wanted more character development and in court scenes instead.
Tyler Perry does not want to go by SAG writers' guidelines, and he said this. And that is why he writes everything. That is why I refuse to watch anything of his as of late.

Too many unanswered questions and plot lines not fleshed out.

Mea should have seen the picture of her sister in law when she was pulling all of the paintings off of Zyir's ceiling.
That would have made a lot more sense. Why wasn't her portrait in Zayir's loft with everyone else's portrait? Maybe she keep it as a souvenir.
That was one of the paintings that she bought. The DA said in the beginning at the mom’s dinner that he wanted to get rid of them

This Movie is Weak
I love that you made this review!!!!
She didn’t have an elevator to her office, so everyone she spoke to met with her in the lobby?!!
