This is not a meme song. It's dedicated to his parents whom he lost when he was a child. It's about his depression and putting up a happy face. Read the lyrics without the music and it will hit you like a truck. This song is pure genius. In the end he accepts that he is an orphan, who travels europe without borders. Something his dad told him when he was still alive. "See dad? I listened to you."

  • @emiliomurkmere

please listen to the lyrics, theyre genuinely heartbreaking as someone whos gone through a similar situation as joost

  • @TomstardustNL

I can see how you think it's a meme song if you don't speak Dutch. Tho, this song is decidated to his parents. It has a whole story behind.

  • @nathanryals

I’m convinced 90% of the commenters didn’t actually watch your whole video

The genre is called Happy Hardcore which was based in the Netherlands in the 90's, but it's definitely not a meme song, it has a much deeper meaning

hahaha and after that is got disqualified because a cameralady filmed him against the rules, Joost got fustrated to her and made a threatend reaction to her. She noted that to the organisation and police. And the dutch broadcast found the disqualication out off proportions. Netherlands next year no Eurovision. Some are really pissed off and 50% of the dutch eurovision lovers now hate the organisation and won't watch it this evening.

I really like Joost and both this song and message, but lets be honest his vocals was not best during LIVE, still super sad that they kicked him out, I would give my vote just for creating memorable positive song, which message is more uniting than EBU decisions in past few years.

  • @JackGPT84

The song conveys a meaningful message in an entertaining manner. It tells a story of Europe and the individual as boundless entities, present everywhere. The song draws inspiration from Dutch Happy Hardcore music of the 90s.

This song is already the first song from Eurovision 2025! Because of all the mistakes that the EBU did, this is the consequence! And Martin Osterdahl; SACKED!

  • @YourFrog9612

Every time he does his little dance the vibes of it reach deep into my heart always makes me happy best vibes out there

  • @peterelfrink7573

Ik zeg 12 points for The Netherlands ❤❤❤❤

  • @bfg_pz2213

Absolutely the only memorable song of the night

  • @pineapple2891

So the song is dedicated to his parents who died when he was 12/13 years old, he singing about how even though he could travel to so many countries the pain of loosing his parents always travels with him. "Ik geef zelfs mensen geld maar er is niemand die me helpt" means he paid a lot of money for therapy but that also didn't work. The end of the song is basically the end of an chapter for him, even though the loss of his parents is something he will carry forever, he can't always carry the pain and has to continue living. There is an extended version of the ending (Eurovision songs can only be 3 minutes long) where he sings a little more about how his parents will always be his heroes. Joost would always watch the Eurovisions with his parents and told them he would be performing someday. So for the first time listening to this song it might sound like just a funny song, but listening to it again/research, you'll find out it's a really happy melody, but with an emotional meaning.

  • @lennprogamer9371

His dad died when he was 13 en mom when 14 thats why he was almost crying

  • @Woopsiedaisy2310

If you love his music please watch “Olly Alexander wrote a song. But Joost wrote a Eurovision song (from Overthinking It channel)” it opened my eyes to who Joost is and the poetry behind his happy up beat music

  • @liamoxd9416

Lyrics are needed. Only song in many years that actually is about europe and coming together.
