- These are sample clips from the 2nd DVD in Ryan Hall's new Deep Half Guard series. Ryan explores this position in amazing detail including entries, grips, sweeps, strategies and more. The project clearly teaches that getting into the Deep Half Guard, the hand, grip and counter fighting along the way is more than half the battle. Ryan breaks down all of his most popular entries, Deep Half variations, counters and much more. The entire series is over 5 hours of instruction on 3 DVDs and is another World Martial Arts exclusive!

"An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure." Ryan Hall is fucking poetic.
Holy crap. Been looking to understand this for this a year but did not know what I was looking for. But watching it by brown belts at my academy, and now finally you, Ryan, now I see what I'm looking for.
Thank you so much. I can't wait to try this hopefully tomorrow.
Ossa!
we now use explosions inbetween sets
Fantastic
awesome!!
oh my god !!!! nice !!!

yeah!!
Resistance is futile.
I can't help but feel like taking a guy down negates most boxing and kickboxing techniques.
I'm pretty sure I love you.
Instruction is very good. Explosions are quite homosexual. Fucking irritating. Sorry, good speaker but that noise just bugs the crap out of me.
@MrHelmerson Honestly, if you think about it, the hook almost does a well enough job maintaining your partner's hips. Because in order for him to move them, he needs the weight off of them, and on the foot you're hooking. But since you control his base, and your hook puts his own weight on his HIPS, he can't move them. Without knee pressure, however, it's very safe to assume he'd eventually work his way out.
lil nog uses deep half in mma and it works all the time...its no where near as tech as ryans deep half, but granted you have less time in mma to set stuff up because you have punches coming.this series it nice.
@mastereismaname guys use deep half in mma all the time. watch fabricio fight some time, he owns guys with it, but he doesn't just sit there and talk like its an instructional either
@mastereismaname If you'll notice, with his left hand under his leg like that, he controls his partner's base. So, say this were an MMA match. In order to land blows from that position, his opponent would have to compromise his base. It'd be very easy for Ryan to off-balance him. His opponent then has two options; post out, and recover his base. Or get swept, and lose top position. Both of these prevent damage from strikes in a relatively simple movement.
@918Anon Add Shogun and Big Nog to the list.
The vid is alright...aloha n armlocks
To some extent you're right but if someone has your leg and you try to stand up you're actually helping them out to attack your legs
Nick P ok bb
I can't help but feeling like resetting by standing negates most bjj techniques even deep half guard
TheBarerOfBadNews riiiight. Try standing in someone’s deep half. You’re just giving them an easy single. You must think watching UFC you know how to fight, right?
super useful for me
ryan hall explains it soo well,
