Moral of the story, camouflage is a marine's best friend.
Wenderia its every army’s best firend
Didn't work for camouflage though.
@@Nr1from1978 (I'm only saying this because my dad was a marine and I know he'd laugh before smacking me upside the head) Marines are shoot first, maybe ask questions later, in between crayon snack breaks.
Your best friend is Jesus Christ 👍
Stan Ridgeway singing this: around a campfire with the boys and a guitar
Sabaton singing this: right after it happened
Stan Ridgway* RAPPED this, not singing.

I came here from the Sabaton cover, both are really great!
Agreed!
Same here man I was looking to see if the marine actually existed but I’m having issues on finding anything other then these 2 songs
Same and I agree
@@omeganinja5558 he exists in our hearts.
Camouflage got me into Sabaton. I've always liked Camouflage and saw it was covered by to me at the time a unknown band so I decided to check it out. I instantly liked The Sabaton version then wondered what they've songs were like so I saw a song of called Carolous Rex and listened to it and became a instant Sabaton fan.
this is technically one big rant about the m16a1
Good shit take a upvote.
So, camouflage is the soldier's real name and he is a ghost.
Amazing
And its based on a true story
House (1986) & Still yet unmade movie called Dead Company. (Universal Soldier)
Pronounced Cam' o'flage
@@druunderwood5602 it's a story. Real or unreal?? Only you can decide.

My Uncle got me hooked on this song when I was younger. (He was a Marine when I was super little, and I guess this spoke to him or something). I'm so happy I found it again, this will forever be one of my favorite songs. And it speaks to me in a way too.
I haven't heard this song for at least 20 years (I couldn't speak English back then), and today somehow I remember about it, come to RUclips, and here it is - and it has subtitles and all!!!!
:)
Thank you for sharing!
The memory of the fallen will always be remembered
The musical style is reminiscent of country music but the lyrics are listed in the Vietnam War, but however the final result of the song is impressive
Insightful
It’s amazing how the song manage this to sound like a cowboy ballad, but be about Vietnam
Country isn’t restricted by “beer, boobs, and rednecks” like some claim. A country has a soul, and they remind us of what it is like to be alone in a war far away from home.
I heard this ONCE before, on the radio 15+ years ago. But for some reason it stuck with me, and I finally found it. Thanks.
The Sabaton cover of this is fucking amazing. Love both versions =D The new album is amazing.
Now, I LOVE the Sabaton cover of this song, but because there's stuff missing from it, I have to give the win to the original version, personally. Plus, something about this version just... feels right.
Camouflage is just the narrator's stand.
Why do I get them chills?...
True American!
@@EriPages no such thing. Only if you are native American. Can you be true my European friend.
Sabaton's cover led me here. Best ghost story ever!

I like to think that after this verse, camouflage would not just only save *1* young marine but many more out there who are stranded in the jungle. I think this is the reason why he decided to back into the jungle.
I think so. His name was Cam O'Flage. He was an Irish marine who joined the US Army only to save lives, not to fight in any war. He was a man of deep faith.
This isn't better.
The Sabaton version isn't better.
They're both amazing versions in their own right.
It's like The Sound of Silence vs. The Sound of Silence. They're both great, but they're totally different even though they're the same. Just appreciate them both.
Well said
I agree
Both sound like the song is a story but tell it in different ways
Sabaton tells it in a more believable way, like it was told by the PFC after they return from the war
Ridgway tells it like a story that's been told and changed over time by different generations
(Ridgway sings "and he pulled a palm tree right up out of the ground and started swatting Charlies with it" and "in fact he's been here all week long" while Sabaton doesn't)
Sabaton added heavy metal power, but destroyed the story. When I listen to Stan Ridgway , Im the jungle, with those two guys in 65. When I listen to Sabaton , I'm on the Sabaton concert... But I love both in general.
this version is like a reflection sabaton is as it happens.
BOTH are great!
I heard Sabaton's cover of this, I'll admit, which got me to look it up. I am obsessed, dare I say haunted by this song. Besides my obsession with the military and my unrequited desire to be a soldier, which I fear I will always carry with me as I approach 30, this song speaks to a very deep desire in my psyche which I was not able to identify for a while after I first heard it. I feel now that it's the ending which causes so much fascination for me......Camouflage died, but even the force of death was not enough to temper his spirit, semper fidelis, always faithful, and its need to protect and fight for his fellow marines. His last wish, his desire, his will overcame death itself. I don't think that's what Ridgeway had intended, but that's what I took from it. I know there is no god and no soul, no afterlife, but the wish to survive death is stronger than the rational. And because we the living can never know what oblivion is like......we will always wonder, always have that nagging doubt, or perhaps hope, that when we pass we might return to fight for our beloved fellow man as well.
well said. I feel the same way. I wish I could join the army. but I have a heart condition and can't.
Cornelius Canton II so am I
No. I understand where you may be coming from, but trust me friend, The soul is a very real thing, and his desire to have one last fight with a brother-in-arms is what put that indomitable soul at ease, let him finally return to the essence of Creation.
It's very beautiful comment, although I'm not sure, whether I understood every sentence correctly. My English is good, maybe advanced, but it isn't profficience. I would like to increase my vocabulary, so I read books, watch movies and play computer games in English (and listen music too). I think that "Camouflage" is very beautiful song, maybe melancholic and lachrymose in lyrics, but quick and energic in melody. And you're right - the hope is most important, faith is sense of whole human life, although we are believers of different religions and ideologies.
I too came here from Sabaton's cover. I wasn't expecting an existential monologue about the nature of perseverance after death, but it was welcome.
I like both this version and Sabaton's
Commander
For my entire life until tonight I thought this was a sabaton original. This is amazing. I’m so glad I could find the original.
This is amazing. I feel like I just watched a movie through a song.
absolutely love this song and always nearly brings me to tears just listening to the words
This song always gives goosebumps, thinking about young men less than half my age shipped across the globe to suffer in the jungle and maybe die
and the millions of innocent kids they killed
Stan ridgeway: the one who told the joke
Sabaton: the one who said it louder and got all the laughs
Everyone: *laughs*
Sabaton: *points to Ridgeway* "he said it first"
every time i listen to this i get a shiver right down my spine?????
not alone there
Cam O'Flage, R.I.P.
Send a a chiver down my spine and gives me goose bumps every time even though I know it’s a made up story with loads of inaccuracies, love it.
2020 still here. Btw here because of Sabaton's cover of the song
Leave no man behind.
Tell it to Bob Barnes:)
Glad I came across this first. I was looking for this exact version. I'll probably check out the Sabaton version later, but this is the one I grew up with.
I love this song because it teaches you that sometimes your prayers will be answered and that sometimes you just have to belive when there is nothing left for you to do
cool.. the story is about a dream of a young Marine who caught in artillery barrage.. finally he survived
love this song and the story even i am a vietnamese
It's about some strange states of mind, hallucinations that sometimes occur to people who found themselves in extreme conditions, alone, exhausted and in a big fear, with little chance to survive. This is how their mind is trying to help them with natural hallucinogenics;) But some of them can try to connect it to the religion or similar background, of course.
Some trippie lyrics here, i'm serious... goosebumps all over... SEMPER FI...
That you Sabaton, I would never have discovered this song without the awesome cover you did on The Last Stand.
Damn son, I wish I had known the original version sooner
The story here reminds me of "The Shepherd" by Frederick Forsyth, where an RAF fighter pilot nearly runs out of fuel over the North Sea, but gets rescued by the ghost of a Mosquito bomber pilot at nearly the last second.
I’m from wall of voodoo and wanted to see what happened to Stan. Glad to see he continued to make great music!
Camouflage was an absolute unit.
"Repeat endlessly until fade" = "Repeat until end"
i watched this on 10th feb 2012 1 year exactly since upload...
its quite a sad song if ya think about it...well at the end anyway
Semper Fi, Marines...
Love this song! great upload!
Do you believe in ghosts?
Whether in the West or the East;
A Marine fights for that which he loves,
It’s his own life he’ll always protect the least.

A brilliant song
GREAT song 4 ever...
this is the best Song ever! !!!
This song is awesome!
That's a cool plot twist
I'm a child of the 80ies but I guess I got the true message of this memorable Song when I heard it lately several times again: it's not about being in war to get your life covered in extreme times by people who really care about you but in every time no matter the circumstances: forgiving and saving one another!!!!!
Remember marines, Camouflage is your friend, if you're in trouble jam your weapon and be alone
Great song with beautiful lyrics =)
Thank you for sharing this! love this song x
Love this song. Hail to Mr Camouflage:)
Cam O'Flage, RIP.
OOOHH !! I WAS A TEENAGER WHEN I LISTEN TO THIS TUNE ON THE RADIO. . NOW IM GONNA SING IT ON KAREOKE FUN . .!! LIKE !!
This song is amazing!!! I believe in ghosts. I' m sure some ghosts are here to save us in a trouble. The story is real... is' nt? 😢❤
It's ment to be based on a true story
It’s to be a nod to “Camouflage” being a soldier’s best friend, as in they use it to ambush or hide from enemies. As in the literal camouflage face paint.
@@ntfdbrs2562 Thanks !😊

The name of a ghost in the song is Cam (Camogie) O'Flage. As a man of faith, he was an Irish marine who joined US military only to save lives, not to fight in war.
@bartnvick I actually heard this on the radio a few months ago and despite the fact that I don't like country all that much, I really love this song anyways thanks for the comment
great job thank you, a very emotional song
nice one ty takes me right back : )
Top 5 hit in the U.K., but never even made it onto any U.S. Charts, believe it or not.
2020.👍
the classics are so much better.
I cry every time I listen to this song.
meaning ful and heart touching I like it
I read somewhere that this was taken from an After Action Report dated 1 November 1965
I miss these ghost story centered songs...
@EincLyrics Thank you but one last thing does the music haves to be from iTunes?
I hope every young soldier who have to fight now find's someone like Camouflage ❤❤❤
Cam O'Flage, rest in peace.
This song reminds me of Phantom 309
I reccomend you to actually get a youtube channel profile pic just to look extra and it would get more eye catching.
A brilliant song and so sad my favourite Nam song ever
Brings back the stink of the Malay rubber forest for me. Great song.
@TheTechnoCreator first off, what kind of editing program do you use like iMovie or Windows Movie Maker

Nice
Good
Woah oh oh oh Camoflauge!
I just found out this is the original version of Sabaton's Camouflage and I'm...hurt :( this was the song the thing that got me into Sabaton.
Great song but you have got two of the lyrics wrong.1:03 should be 'if charlie wants to TANGLE now he'll have two to dodge'3:13 should be 'and A medic took my arm '
ngl "If charlie wants to tangle now, he'll have two to dodge!" is my favourite line of the song for some reason xD
Tango is frenetic for tangle anyway
very nice.
Good song and this event some what scares me
This song is based on a true story. Oorah Camouflage.🇺🇸
@TheTechnoCreator I use iMovie and it's really simple when you open iMovie, near the middle where it's grey all the way to the right are a couple of tabs the one with the music note on it is the one with your music from iTunes and all you have to do is select the song you want and drag into the project/video your working on. iMovie might only be for the Mac but I'm not sure anyways I hope this helped
Semper fi!
Please, help me to understand the meaning of "P. F.C. Patrol"! Thank you so much. A. Vandenberghe Belgium.
