Why you should NEVER LIVE in Pattaya

  • This video is based on my own experience. I have been living in Thailand for the past 11 years, and I have lived in the Pattaya area for long enough to know that it's not for me. There are loads of British, German Russian, and god knows who else who live in the Sudo Western Culture in Pattaya. If you want to know the real Thailand! Don't live in Pattaya. So this is why you should never live in Pattaya.

Late afternoon shopping in the market to stock up on protein. Fish Or pork ribs for dinner. In bed by 8.00. After speaking Thai all day Nice

Been living in Thailand for around 17 years. Spent time in various areas during my time here. Many of the things you listed as negatives I actually think are positives. I like having variety. Pattaya is a blend of a variety of cultures. If I want Indian food, I have plenty of options. If I want middle eastern food.. same. Thai food? Of course. I live in a Thai area here. I live with my wife and don't drink, so I don't partake in the fake nightlife, but from a convenience perspective, Pattaya is great IMO.

You see bro sometimes you feel lonely but you have peace, nobody around looking at what you do and asking questions about your life, you might want this sometimes but I garantee you it’s better to be in a place where people are not curious and respect your privacy it’s the best thing ever

Been to various parts of Thailand a number of times. Many Europeans, Aussies, Kiwis and such are in Thailand because it is far cheaper than their homeland and as you mention it is warmer.
For British expats many will mention how much better the weather is in Pattaya or Phuket vs London or Manchester. And of course don't forget how much cheaper the beer is even the European brands.
As for living in the European bubble in Pattaya or Phuket it's the same all over the world. In LA there are large numbers of Asians living in the Chinese bubble or the Korean bubble or the Japanese bubble. Of course there's also the Mexican bubble in LA.
IMO I don't see anything wrong with living in the American bubble in Pattaya. I can get the food I like and watch the TV I like when I'm in Pattaya.

Bit rich hearing from yourself and others with Thai partners who complain about not the real Thailand. How long do you think you'd have lasted in your Thai village by yourself? Even if you spoke fluent Thai the locals would generally completely ignore you.
I like going for a holiday where people speak enough English to serve me the right food and sometimes eat my familiar foods. It's a holiday not for life whereas it's your life not a holiday and only really available to you because of your carer/interpreters and of course mainly your wallet. Don't be naive.

I went to Samui for the first time this year and it was wild. I literally didn't see a single Thai tourist the entire 5 days. Unless you went to little holes in the wall all the restaurants were entirely European tourists. It was like an European beach resort transplanted in to Thailand. Very strange place. Won't be going back.

    • @Wilko11

First went to Samui 35 years ago, it was mainly dirt roads and cheap small bungalows behind the beaches, and everything was very cheap with mainly locals there, many not working in the tourist industry. Have been back a few times since, and was very disappointed to see what it has become. Phuket has changed a lot too, but it's a bigger island and it's still possible to stay in quieter areas away from the madness.

Granted I only spent two weeks in Thailand, and I agree with what you're saying but to each his own. Pattaya as you say was a bunch of tourists, I like Bangkok and even the craziness of it, but not the air quality. Hua hin had too many tourists and they all had kids. Sam Roi yot was very quiet but still had a lot of europeans. If I'm going to be in a foreign country I'd rather be around people more like me, rather than some other countries I'm not going to mention. In the 2 weeks that I was there I had plenty of interactions with normal Thai people. I found them to be friendly and welcoming when you make an effort, even if you don't speak passible thai.
When I come back to Thailand for good I will probably spend 3 months in Bangkok along the Riverside and then either Najomtien beach or maybe Chang Mi. The cool part is I could go to each one for a 6 months or a year at a time. I guess it just depends on what you are looking for.

So when you want to travel (Domestic and International) it is super convenient whilst having the ocean breeze. My condo is 40 metres from the sand at Jomtien. Hua Hin is too quiet, Phuket is the last place in Thailand I would live. Covid taught us that Island living is a bad idea. Ruling out Samui and the Southern islands plus those islands off the Eastern Seaboard. Not all expats in Pattaya are sex tourists. I am a non-drinker so I could care less about bars.

Wearing at least a $60 shirt is important for making a good impression in Thailand. Beautiful people and money are strongly correlated. The best lookers are in the wealthy parts of town, but also Mega Bangna, closer to the big factory office jobs. Less romantic, but great for options, are the sky trains around 6 pm.

i did live in Na Kluea almost 1 year and for most of the time it was like living in any thai city amongst mostly thais and did only go in to the madness in pattaya max 1 time every 2 weeks. just knowing it was there was enough.
Ok sometimes i go shopping at big c and stuff like that.
The bar and seedy pattaya are shrinking every year and are today only a memory of old crazy times before EARLY 2000
Now its more like a farangtown with shops beaches and pretty good communications (baht bus)

Tourism is Thailand's main industry. Why would you expect any difference in Pattaya. It started as a fishing village until the US service men took their R and R their playing with the local women. It has been a long change influenced by Western desires taking advantage of poverty. Why would you expect a family environment in Pattaya? It was no different 34 years ago or 50 years ago. It is you that has changed, not Pattaya.

It was exciting playing with all the girls for around 15 years pre covid, but last trip last year it was getting a bit boring. I'm still up for it, but just not looking for it as much. I felt great after but later a bit lonely but, still happy to do it again. Last trip I was more interested in the food and sightseeing and only a little bit of puss if it was convenient and not a rip off price.

I get what you are saying, but I know so many expats that live in Pattaya and love it I am talking 50-75 yrs. Most after being screwed by western women. From my discussions with them they have become comfortable in their own skins and not looking for a partner. Also, they are open to one. Your Needs are your needs but not reflective of all. Good video though.

Don't kid yourself, if you want it, no matter the circumstances, you always pay for it, whether it's up front after negotiation, in one hit, or bigger amount over time your paying for your fun times, but I do agree, that there's no point in going to a foreign country, and spending time with other ex pats, from various nations, instead of the people from the nation you're living in at the time, especially spending time with the type of people you moved there to get away from in the first place.

Both my husband and I (Scottish) have travelled extensively over the years but have never been to the far East . I have done my research on Thailand. Sadly it really does not float my boat which is sad because im pretty sure there are some untouched areas far from the madding crowds and the portrayal of seediness it often depicts . It is of great interest that you also mention how other nationalities can take over social communities . Sad really but we have the same here in Scotland with large communities of polish people. Also when you go into a shop its " Have an nice day or happy holidays ??? This is Scotland not the states . I visited Loch Shiel and the Jacobite memorial only to be greeted by an Indian who proceeded to tell me about the history . ??? Surely if i were to go and visit the Taj Mahal id expect an Indian tour guide ?? So there have it its not just in Thailand . You actually couldnt pay me to go to Pataya .Thanks for your video

Your perspective lacks consistency. The fact is people from around the world arrive in Thailand for a whole host of reasons including the warm weather and cheap sex. It is their choice to live wherever they feel comfortable--Pattaya, Phuket, Bangkok, or some nondescript Thai village. We should not judge people. To each his own. Live and let live.

  • @christopherdeane2233
    @christopherdeane2233 10 месяцев назад

I don’t get why you are being so judgemental? I’m inclined to agree that Pattaya isn’t real Thailand but who are you or anyone else to tell people where they should or shouldn’t reside. Some people like the taste of home and good luck to them if that’s the case

thoughtful topic. not so much for what part of the brain farangs are using when engaged in this open lifestyle. a few videos have chased the STDs angle which thailand seems to manage expertly. the lingering question I have is what about the children born out of this form of play? American military's extended stay in Vietnam coined the term "Amerasian". I think I recently read an organization was formed to address those lives. amazing that we're seeing their well being as an issue still today.

In some sense, it's silly to concern oneself (it's called "gatekeeping") why anyone is in Thailand or anywhere else. You're actually using a 100% Western mindset (so you are acting like a Westerner!!!) when you mention it as a "good" that someone should want to know Thais and learn their culture. In fact, do you think any of the immigrants from Burma or Cambodia give a crap about Thai culture? I don't know, but I guess it is unlikely. When I was an exchange student in Japan 20 years ago, the Westerners were obsessed with becoming "enlightened" about the country. But the guys from Nepal and Bengladesh were doing what it took to maintain their lottery winnings and were rather indifferent to even trying Japanese food. That's because the scholarship money they got as a grad student could be sent home to support an entire village as long as they spent nothing more than enough to barely survive in Japan.
