It’s not that the phrase is incorrect it’s that the targets of it are the wrong ones leading to poorer insufficient public services. As the middle expanded under Thatcher, and prior under propagandist consumer advertising, attacking them became harder as you’d forfeit any chance of gaining power. Perhaps we need to change the individualistic mindset of free market capitalism to one of a responsible society to ease the demand on public services by ensuring the population doesn’t see them as a given to fall back on when they’ve ruined their lives. I’d like to see more private health use rather than more prestige cars on the road.

The blatant belief in the superiority of the rich and powerful is being flagrantly displayed in the policies and behaviour of successive PMs in recent years. The passing of the baton suggests what looks like incompetence feels more like disdain.
There has been an open lack of consideration for the elderly who we were advised to leave lonely and unattended during lockdown. The everyday working person stands to be crushed by inflation, The marginalised have been told to shut up or put up and every attempt made to stifle unions, protests and other outlets that seek to shed light or resist.
Fear and anxiety stands to wipe out any strugglers if cold and starvation do not.
Darwinian style “survival of the richest’ for sure.
