Really love this… as a +2 handicap I would love to get dialed in with Trottie… I really wish the guys that do fittings else where had some training or certification that they were trained by Trottie. It’s night and day… Here are challenges I see from club fitters: 1) they are not always good players 2) they put you gear they like 3) you are testing indoors with range balls 4) range balls fly 20% less distance 5) need to be hitting balls off grass with actual ball you play Otherwise all this data is not helpful I have at least a handful of friends that have got fitted at a facility and In my opinion got the wrong shaft and clubs that I could pretty much fit just eyeball in the ball flight . I believe it is for all these reasons above Thoughts?
Range balls do not carry 20% less distance. Not sure why I hear that so often. I find that range balls (several different courses over years) are rather close to my ProV1x balls (this is from courses in Arizona/Nevada/Idaho). Range balls tend to be a bit spinny but have never seen anything the likes of 20% shorter. I find that when people hit indoors, in a 'fitting', with a launch monitor, they typically say 'oh i hit farther than that', but guess what....they probably don't. I can carry a driver 290 outdoors, and guess what, same with just about any ball indoors on a trackman. What you hear is 'i carry 300 on the range/course but that indoor range ball and trackman was only showing 240 which we KNOW is wrong....' - probably not. I do believe testing clubs off the grass, with your normal ball, is the best way to test new clubs for sure.
@@Ifishmo yeah 20% is an exaggeration but it depends on the condition of range balls … sure a brand new range ball will carry about 10-15 yards less than a premium ball on longer clubs but if balls are old or beat up it’s purely for warm up. At torrey balls are older I hit a full sand wedge 100 yard no problem… with range ball carries 90 on a good one. 8 iron 140 vs 155 etc If I am practicing driver on range I am hitting 10 good balls I found on the course so I can get a better feel for flight and carry etc

@Ifishmo depends on what kind of range ball you are using. If its a 2 piece ball thats marked with "Range" or "practice" and its not a titleist or a taylormade its generally junk. A couple ranges near me use balls that get me nowhere near my distance. 260-270 driver vs 285-295. Generally 10-15 yards on irons. If its a real ball thats a second from the major brands its not a "range" ball to me.
