Thumbnail is a perfect combination of Roman cement work, and stick shack building experts.
Reminds me of the marble train stations, with wood shacks inside to collect fares. (additions)
Modern Portland Cement was invented in 1818, and the recipe wasn't very good, or long lasting.
Any cement you see that tends to ignore decay and crumbling, was put there by 'romans' long ago.
