Hi from north of France, I'm using the dead wood for a few years now. In my ochard there are a lot of pruned wood, branches, twigs... out of fruit trees, willows, red and black current bushes, elder berries, thornes and brumbles, grape vines...I used to put all that stuff on a pile near an old apple tree. Last year I decided to build a "dry wall" using the dead wood. I noticed that the vegetation by my wood piles was just thriving... So I use 1° the permanent dry wood hedge and a 2° the temporary wood piles that I use to regenerate the soil in vegetable garden or in meadow or in ochard. I move them elsewhere after 3 or 4 years of composting. The soil underneath is just black and smells like a humus.

I love love this idea...I've been saving sticks since spring I'm wanting to make a waddle fence around my front flower bed to keep ducks and rabbits out especially. The ducks apparently love lavender. They have killed a couple of my plants. And you know rabbits. Barney and his buddy are so sweet playing together. Thank you for this idea I know a couple places I may implement this 💚🦋
